Kotte, Senior. Requirements for modern storage solutions and larger storage volumes have grown in line with the constant increase in the volume of bodycare products manufactured and marketed by the company. In the fi rst phase of construction, SSI Schäfer handed over a mobile racking system to Titania Fabrik GmbH, based at Wülfrath near Düsseldorf, in January 2006. Constant growth meant that the storage capacity was soon exhausted, so the next logical step was to start planning for an extension to the warehouse. In the same year, the management decided to order another mobile racking system from SSI Schäfer. This time, however, they opted for the fully automatic version with a laser-navigated narrow-aisle stacker. Incoming goods, I-point This leap forward in automated warehouse logistics generated a number of positive effects. For instance, the two storey levels in the front building were elegantly linked via the transfer points for the automated vehicle on both levels. Goods storage and retrieval operations are possible on both levels. Incoming goods from external sources arrive in the upper storey for storage in the warehouse. Raw materials and packaging are routed from the warehouse to the fi lling plants in the lower storey. Packaged fi nished goods from the lower storey are moved back into the mobile racking system and then, on the upper storey, they are made available for delivery tours. Maximum functionality in the minimum of space: any additional machines that were needed – such as stretchers and labellers – were integrated into the conveying technology with no problems at all. Storage and retrieval vehicle: the pallet is moved in at the top of the aisle The entire system is controlled and monitored by a material fl ow computer based on SSI Schäfer’s standard “Ant” software. A customized interface ensures a reliable connection with the customer’s warehouse management system.
