I hope this newsletter finds you doing well and preparing with excitement for the start of the school year! While it may sound trite, it certainly is the case that it seems like just yesterday we were bidding our seniors farewell and now we are welcoming back another outstanding senior class! This summer certainly has been a busy and interesting one with no lack of things to complete prior to the start of school. The school hired a number of new staff members, undertook an unprecedented number of permanent improvement projects, and made a significant change to our administrative structure. Each of these, though, provide the opportunity for our school to build on our past improvement and successes and continue to strive to provide the best possible education in an amazing environment! While each of the aforementioned pieces bring change to the school perhaps none of them does so with the same impact as the recent change in administrative structure. As you may well know we convened a search committee of staff, parents, and community to seek a replacement for Mark Willeke with his pending retirement. After hiring a strong candidate in March we could never have known what would occur in midJuly when he resigned to take the same position (high school principal) at his previous district. While panic could have set in at that moment, I am extremely proud of our district’s reaction. Ideas and options were brainstormed, the high school principal search committee was reconvened to examine the options, and, in a very short time, we arrived at a consensus decision to promote Heath Huffman from K-6 to K-12 principal and promote an excellent teacher, Becky Continued on Page 2 School Hours are 7:55 a.m.—3:05 p.m. 2-Hour Delay............ 9:55 a.m.—3:05 p.m. 3-Hour Delay.......... 10:55 a.m.—4:05 p.m. 7-8 Lunch Period ......... 11:18-11:48 a.m. 9-12 Lunch Period ....... 12:08-12:38 p.m. Chicken Barbecue The Football Moms are holding a chicken barbecue on September 10 from 4:306:30pm in the old high school cafeteria. See any football mom, football player or contact the building office to obtain tickets. IDEA-B Funds Once again CRLS will be receiving Title VI-B Funds for 2015-16. These funds are used to supplement special education and special needs programs already in place in the district and county. This allocation is earmarked to help pay for the special educations services CRLS students receive through the Hancock County Educational Service Center. The school system would like to continue to use its IDEA-B money for this purpose. If you have any questions or comments pertaining to the use of these funds or our special education programs, please contact the superintendent’s office. In every option we examined we asked whether each one would move the district backwards, maintain the status quo, or move the district forward. I, and those involved in the process, believe that this option provides us the flexibility in the future and the best possibility to continue to move forward with our growth and improvement. Mr. Huffman has already demonstrated a keen ability to successfully drive collaborative decision making at the elementary and I have no doubt that he will be able to do the same on a larger scale. It has been said that the best teachers make the best administrators and Mrs. Rosenbauer has proven to be an excellent and caring teacher for a number of years. She is eager to grow as a professional and have an impact on more students. We believe this is the perfect opportunity for her to provide that support and caring to not only our students but for our staff as they continue to strive to make this an excellent district. I cannot tell you that everything will be perfect about this transition because it does, indeed, represent quite a significant under- ALL-SPORT PASSES Cory-Rawson All-Sports Passes will be available to purchase starting August 12th. Enter door A1 in the new building and proceed to the office on your left. All Sports passes cover all home regular season contests for grades 7-12 of every sport. Family passes are $225, which covers the residential parents and any siblings in elementary, middle or high school. Children not yet in school are admitted free. Individual adult passes are $80, individual students are $55, and senior citizens age 55 or older are $25. Starting this school year, passes will be hard plastic. Passes will be renewed in the fall of each school year with a sticker similar to a vehicle license plate. There will be no additional charge the first time a pass is purchased; however, there will be a $3 replacement fee if a pass is lost or stolen. Passes are non-transferable. taking. However, I can tell you that Mr. Huffman, Mrs. Rosenbauer, and all those involved in supporting them will work to ensure that our staff and students are equipped and prepared to achieve the best possible educational environment! Speaking of significant undertakings, I hope you get a chance to check out all that our maintenance and custodial crew has accomplished this summer. As always, the custodial crew manages to achieve the impossible and clean the school from top to bottom in just a few short months! In between their cleaning, our maintenance crew completed an unprecedented number of projects. On the exterior they installed the commemorative bricks by the connector (the bricks are still for sale if anyone is interested in purchasing one), mulched the flower beds, installed a new water line to the soccer fields, removed the defunct air filtration system by the ag shop, oversaw installation of a new fuel pump station for buses, brick repair on the middle and high school buildings, and replacement of concrete in several locations behind the school building. Inside the school the crew resealed the gym floors, painted the old high school cafeteria, installed new ceiling tiles in the old high school cafeteria (which really brightened up the space!), installed a sound and lighting booth in the auditorium, oversaw replacement of the sound and lighting in the auditorium, and the replacement of the high school fire alarm system. I’m sure I’ve overlooked about a dozen other things they accomplished, but suffice it to say that the school is in tiptop condition for the start of the school year! Finally, I’d like to welcome our newest staff members to the Hornet Community: Trista Baker (3rd Grade), Emily Boerger (5th grade), Joe Faine (HS Business and College and Career Advisor), Cory Hefner (HS Math, Head Football Coach), Andréa Lee (HS English), Heather Miracle (aide), Kyle Wagner (HS Social Studies), Jan Reese (Family and Consumer Science), Ashley Sprunger (EL Intervention), and Elizabeth Trigg (HS Math/Social Studies). I hope you’ll get a chance to give them a warm Hornet welcome at our upcoming Open House on August 18th from 6-7pm! Enjoy the rest of your summer and we’ll see you soon! Go Hornets! SCHEDULE PICKUP 7-12 students can pickup schedules on August 13, 14 & 17 from 8:00am-3:00pm in the high school office. CORY-RAWSON SCHOOL CALENDAR 2015-2016 TU ....... Aug. 18 .................
