January 2016 SOLLERS POINT TECHNICAL Message from the Principal Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students: I hope everyone enjoyed the winter holiday break. Quarter 2 ends in less than 10 days. Many of our semester-based CTE magnet courses will administer final exams January 13-15. Please continue to use BCPS One (https://bcpsone.bcps.org/) to check grades and to communicate with instructors. January and February are typically our coldest and snowiest months of the year. If serious weather conditions make travel dangerous, Baltimore County Public Schools will either close for the day or open one or two hours late. During these times listen to our local TV or radio stations: WBAL Radio Station (1090 AM), WMAR TV (Channel 2/ Cable 12), WBAL TV (Channel 11/ Cable 21), WJZ TV (Channel 13/ Cable 23), call 410-887-5555, or access the BCPS Website at http://www.bcps.org. Early dismissals due to threatening weather or unexpected events will be announced in the same manner. The modified schedules for Sollers Point AM and PM sessions are detailed below. SOLLERS POINT AM SESSION: The following schedule applies for late openings: 1 hour late opening: Period 1 begins 8:45 AM for ALL students. Period 1, 2 and 3 shortened to 30 minute periods. 2 hour late opening: Period 1 begins 9:45 AM for Dundalk High students only. Overlea, Chesapeake, Kenwood, Patapsco, Sparrows Point, Loch Raven, Perry Hall, and Parkville students report directly to their home school for lunch, period 3 and 4. Report time varies by school. Transportation to the home school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Bus Pick-ups: Add 1 hour to your pick-up time for a 1 hour late opening. Add 2 hours to your pick-up time if you are a Dundalk High student. No AM bus transportation to Sollers Point for everyone else. SOLLERS POINT PM SESSION: The following schedule applies for early dismissals: 3 hour early dismissal at 11:15 AM. No PM session. All students are dismissed from their home school. 2 hour early dismissal at 12:15 PM. Period 5 begins 11:45 AM for Dundalk High students only. Overlea, Chesapeake, Kenwood, Patapsco, Sparrows Point, Loch Raven, Perry Hall, and Parkville students remain at their home school for dismissal. 1 hour early dismissal at 1:15 PM. (410-8877077) Attention Rising Seniors- Have you turned in all your senior year paperwork?? Students not enrolled in a SPT Senior Option need a full-day schedule from their home-school! Ninth Grade Students Visit the Tech Programs!!! On December 22, 2015 the ninth graders made their 2nd visit to the tech programs. This time, they got to spend two periods working with the level one and two students and the teacher. A future Cosmetology student gets her hair curled. An Allied Health student teaches a ninth grader the finer points of taking a blood pressure reading. Gingerbread house making in Baking and Pastry. A ninth grader gets her hands dirty in Culinary Arts. A level two Diesel student demonstrates how to take apart an engine. Two ninth graders mix cement in the construction program. Even the substitute teacher takes a shot at welding The next generation of IT professionals discuss various networking scenarios. Program Highlight! Sollers IT Computer Science and IT Networking Level 2 students took an exciting trip to Cisco Systems’ Security operations in Columbia, Maryland last month. The students got a first-hand look at Cisco’s Security operations, which provides network intrusion detection and prevention for Cisco customers. The day was spent touring the facility, interacting with IT professionals, and learning about career opportunities in the field. Parents! Aunts! Uncles! Grandparents! Anyone and Everyone! Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Rewards Program! The Scholarship Committee is in the process of raising funds for our seniors and would like your help in reaching our goal.
