6
New objectives
• Build a Future Internet testbed in Brazil, federated with
other worldwide testbed initiatives.
• Provide a large scale platform for promoting the Future
Internet research in Brazil and region.
• Educate the next generation of researchers by encouraging
a community of educators to use the testbed for teaching
classes on computer networks.

Operational
Planned
Number of unique testbed users
• Situation as of Feb. 2016 (total = 175)
13
FIBRE in the classroom (educational usage)
• The use of a large-scale testbed give students first-hand experience to a
real-world situation, instead of using software tools
to simulate networks in the laboratory.
• With the use of Future Internet testbeds in computer-network classes,
we believe the next generation of researchers will be more
capable of dealing with architectural experiments and of continuously
evolving the current Internet architecture
Future Plans
• Dissemination
• Produce new training material for operators and users
• Workshop targeting professors (with hands-on) at CSBC congress (5
July)
• Expansion
• Installation of new islands (support to FUTEBOL´s members)
•
•
•
•

Vitória (UFES)
Belo Horizonte (UFMG)
Uberlândia (UFU)
• Technical Evolution
• Rethinking the testbed hardware arquitecture
• Include news resources as advanced wireless resources, IoT sensors,
programmable network components and cloud computing infrastructures.\
• Deploy a unique control framework
• Deploy a international clearinghouse to federation with others testbed
International Cooperation
• OMF6 development
• University of Thessaly/UPMC
