2013 Year End Report Overview • For its 21st year, Kythe celebrates the renewal of its vision to be a leading organization which “provides children with cancer and chronic illness with opportunities to learn, play, and grow even while they are confined in the hospital.” • Kythe achieved a significant level of growth in the meeting of its goals as an organization in the following ways: – reevaluating its mission and vision; – expanding its advocacy through its flagship programs and campaigns, – creating and sustaining new partners through the partner relations system – Sustaining a support system for new and old Kythe volunteers. On behalf of Kythe Foundation, we give special recognition to our past president, Mr. Gerry Bacarro, who shared his expertise, time, and resources to take Kythe to greater heights. We salute your leadership and compassion for the Kythe team and most especially for the children with cancer. Doc Angie Sievert-Fernandez passed the Child Life Certification Exam in 2013 We congratulate Dr. Angie SievertFernandez, our Child Life Program Manager, on her becoming a Certified Child Life Specialist. The Kythe Child Life Program will definitely grow by leaps and bounds under her knowledge, experience, and care. Kythe Adopt-a-Hospital Partners SC Johnson (Heart Center) Kythe offers its deepest thanks to SC Johnson Country Manager Mr. Floyd Pedernal for forging strong ties between Kythe and SC Johnson. It is with hope that Kythe looks forward to a future with its child-patients, who, in their own right, are champions of hope — at, sa tulong ng SC Johnson, may bukas pa para sa mga batang may sakit sa puso. Kythe Adopt a Hospital Partners Pfizer Foundation Philippines adopted Philippine Children’s Medical Center Last June 27, 2013 at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center: in a morning spent with the Kythe kids and their families, Kythe and the Pfizer Philippines Foundation Inc. (PPFI), in unity with the Cancer and Hematology Center of PCMC, inaugurated the building of a new Activity Center in the hospital with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony and a short program. Adopt-A-Hospital Partners Mr. Clayton and Mrs. Joji Tugonon of Christmas Village of Hope adopted Cebu Cancer Institute and Southern Phil Medical Center The enchanting Christmas Village of Hope, led by Mr. Clayton and Mrs. Joji Tugonon from Cebu City, has raised funds for the chemotherapy needs of the pediatric cancer patients in Cebu. We thank Mr. and Mrs. Tugonon for expanding their help to support the salary of our Child Life Coordinator in Southern Luzon Medical Center. The pool is comprised of Volunteer Leaders who have shown deep commitment and dedication to serve our pediatric patients. There are currently 12 active volunteer leaders. They are given special Child Life Training so that they can assist the Child Life Coordinator in supervising new volunteers and facilitate arts and crafts activities in the hospital. Volunteer Program-Corporate Social Responsibility Partners BPI Bayan 3D Under the leadership of Mrs. Rose Susara-Mundo, of the Credit Card Operations Department and volunteer head, BPI Bayan 3D was able to partner with Kythe for a week-long fundraising event entitled “A Love, A Fair to Remember” to sponsor food, fruits, game prizes, loot bags, and others during hospital visits to the kids. Joel Cruz and other members of the Ascendas team included the newly renovated comfort room on the 5th floor, a utility cabinet for Child Life materials, toys for the Kythe kids, and a check donation. Volunteer Program-Corporate Social Responsibility Partners LBC LBC’s Kaya Football Club joined the kids of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center in a memorable outreach of arts and crafts and mask-making. Football player Christian and Kythe kid Siv crossed their language barrier and bonded over the activity. Volunteer Program-Corporate Social Responsibility Partners Boehringer Ingelheim Boehringer Ingelheim collaborated with Kythe in November for their CSR in the PCMC Activity Center. Resource Development Program The strategy was to deepen partnerships and collaboration with corporations, groups, and foundations to ensure long-term support for Kythe’s programs. Along this line, Kythe actively kept a partner management system inclusive of documentation, and confirmed partners’ participation with Gifts of Giving and press releases. Resource Development- Corporate Partners Bioessence With the active partnership of Kythe sponsor and bonafide “poster girl” Ms. S’ann Chi, Kythe and Biossence teamed up for a Wellness Activity last July 28 for the residents of the Ohana Condominium in Alabang. Resource Development- Corporate Partners Dance Plus Kythe was the beneficiary of the proceeds from the Dance for Life concert held in September in Robinsons Galleria, in partnership with Dance Plus studio. Resource Development- Corporate Partners United Print Media Group Kythe thanks Mr. Noel Godinez and the officers of UPMG for choosing Kythe to be their beneficiary in the movie premiere of “Gravity” in 2013. The donations from UPMG’s event went a long way to fund Child Life needs for our pediatric patients. Resource Development- Corporate Partner Regine Tolentino Dance Studio We thank Ms. Regine Tolentino for supporting Kythe for more than 2 years. Through her art and generosity, Ms. Tolentino truly has contributed much for children with cancer. Resource Development- Corporate Partner Radio Hi Kythe Inc., together with the Kythe kids, their families, and the members of the Child Life Staff, kicked off the Christmas season on a positive note with “Because It’s Christmas”, a benefit concert for the Child Life patients in Kythe’s 13 affiliate hospitals and their families who were affected by the recent Typhoon Yolanda. The concert was held last December 6, 2013, at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Taguig. Thank you Saab and Maxene Magalona for your support! The seminars also provided opportunities for personal and professional growth. Passion for Caring Seminars FAITH AND PATRIOTISM Kythe, together with the Joey Velasco Foundation, held a Passion for Caring seminar for the Quirino Memorial Medical Center Pediatric Department last March 26, 2013, in Quezon City. “We care for our doctors so they can care for our patients more.” Research and Evidencebased practice We thank Kinder Kanker Genezing for funding these research studies. “Preparing Children for Medical Procedures “Spikes: Teaching Doctors how to break bad news “Kythe Child Life Coordinators: Compassion Satisfaction or Compassion Fatigue” “Addessing Psychosocial Needs of the Hospitalized Child: The Impact of the Kythe Child Life Program” Annual Activities Kythe Flying Kythe’s annual Kythe Flying event, one of the most exciting events begin the year, and spearheaded by the organization’s student arm Kythe-Ateneo, took place in Bellarmine Field, Ateneo de Manila University, last February 16, 2013. Annual Activities Kythe Flying: Cebu Last May 4, 2013, patients from Perpetual Succour Hospital, Chong Hua Hospital, Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital and Velez Hospital gathered at the Friendship Garden of Family Park for Kythe Flying. Annual Activities Summer Camp Kythe’s annual Summer Camp, considered one of the most anticipated events by the Kythe kids, was held from April 29 to May 1, 2013 at Camp Explore Antipolo Rizal, and included fun activities such as swimming, rappeling, arts and crafts, team building, ziplining, and a bonfire. Annual Activities Family Day was sponsored by William Bayot last September 16, 2013 at the Philippine Heart Center. Annual Activities Halloween Party was held last October 24, 2013 at the National Children’s Hospital and spearheaded by loyal volunteers from the XSPA and Ms .Reggie Aspiras. Annual Activities Halloween Party was held last October 30, 2014 at the Teleperformance Sucat Branch. Annual Activities The annual Kythe Christmas Party, with a Filipino theme “Kumukuti-kutitap,” was held with KytheAteneo last December 7, 2013 at the AFP Medical Center Gym with parols, Filipino food and booths, and a music and magic program.
