Holding down the tap-tempo footswitch for several seconds engages a trails setting that lets the last repeat ring out after the effect is turned off. Likewise, pressing the feedback knob for a few seconds engages a unique Chase mode that cycles through a sequence of different timedivision values. Five sequences are available, creating effects previously unavailable from an analog delay pedal. There is also an input that lets you control delay time with an optional expression pedal. Super Duper Looper WAY HUGE SUPA-PUSS ANALOG DELAY By Ch ris G ill W HEN IT COMES TO RICH, creamy analog delay tone, the Way Huge Aqua-Puss is pretty hard to beat. But as good as it sounds, it lacks a few features, including long delay times. To answer those demands (and then some), Way Huge mastermind Jeorge Tripps has introduced the SupaPuss, which goes above and beyond the original, resulting in perhaps the most versatile true analog delay pedal on the market today. FEATURES While the Aqua-Puss provides a CHEAT SHEET 84 LIST PRICE $359.99 MANUFACTURER Way Huge, jimdunlop.com GU I TA R WOR L D • A PR I L 2013 maximum delay time of 300ms, the Supa-Puss delivers three to 10 times as much. The delay knobs offers 50 to 900ms of delay, and the taptempo footswitch makes up to three seconds of delay available, though at times longer than two seconds the delay tone sounds more like a ring modulator, due to underclocking of the anti-alias filters. Even so, many adventurous guitarists will welcome that as yet another of this pedal’s cool features. Like the Aqua-Puss, the Supa-Puss has controls for feedback and blend (called The Supa-Puss has delay times ranging from 50ms to three seconds, with all the creamy, luscious analog delay tones of the AquaPuss. PERFORMANCE The Supa-Puss delivers the same fat, warm delay tones that made the Aqua-Puss so desirable, but the new features take it to an entirely new dimension. The gain and tone controls allow users to shape the delay tone to be as clean, gritty, dark or crisp as they like, and the modulation depth and speed controls add rich chorus and vibrato effects to the pedal’s repertoire. The trails setting is perfect for dub enthusiasts who want controllable endless-feedback effects that respond to playing dynamics, while the Chase mode is fun for experimental-minded players. Using the trails setting and an expression pedal, you can create flying buzz-saw and spaceship sounds that even the best digital modeling pedals can’t convincingly replicate. Unlike the analog delays of yesteryear, the Supa-Puss is surprisingly quiet, which makes it a great tool for the studio as well as the stage. The multitude of effects that it can create makes it like an instrument unto itself, providing seemingly endless textures, riffs and soundscapes to inspire and explore. The LFO modulation section, trails setting and five Chase modes offer exciting new effects, while the gain and tone controls shape the delay signal’s character. THE BOTTOM LINE With expanded delay time and a wide variety of useful and unusual features, the Way Huge Supa-Puss offers a vast improvement over the Aqua-Puss and provides a lifetime of inspiration.
