MEMORÁNDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Between:
1. UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL AGRARIA LA MOLINA of PERÚ by Dr Jesús Abel Mejía
Marcacuzco, as Rector, herein after referred to as "UNALM".
2. Wageningen UR Plañí Breeding, The Netherlands represented by Prof. Dr. Richard Visser
as chair, hereinafter referred to as "WU"
WHEREAS:

UNALM has a national responsibility for higher education and agricultural res^arch inPeru and
has strong links with universities and research ¡nstitutions.
WU has more than 100 years' experience in fundamental and applied research and ranked
among the top 50 universities ¡n the world which based on the level and the number of
scientific publications. In addition, WU has also half a century of experience in capacity
building and academic courses (BSc, MSc and PhD) forforeign students from all countries of
the world.
WU has over 15 years of collaboration in fundamental, applied research and breeding
activities in food crops in the Andean región which was made through Preduza foundation .
Both parties wish to strengthen capacity building ¡n PERÚ
PARTIES AGREE AS FOLLOWS:
Art. 1
Cooperation betweep partners shall be carried out, subject to availability of funds, the
approval of both parties and on the basis of reciprocity, through such activities or
programs as:
• Training for MSc students
• Training for PhD students
• Tailor made courses
• Joined research programmes
• Exchange of students and researchers
• Participation ¡n seminars and academic meetings.
Art. 2 The cooperation described above will in every case be dependent upon the availability of
necessary funds from external sources. Both parties, separately or jointly will try to
allocate sources.
Art. 3.
Initially, the cooperation will involve UNALM/WU Plant Breeding. Other departments or
business units of WU may particípate by mutual agreement at any time.

Art. 4.
The áreas of cooperation ¡nclude, subject to mutual consent, any program offered at either
party as felt desirable and having potential to contribute to the mission and effectiveness
of either party and/or contribute to fostering the cooperative relationship between parties.

Art. 5.
The terms and necessary budget for each program and activity shall be described in
letters of agreement which will be prepared subsequent to this Memorándum of
Understanding and signed by al parties prior to the initiation of a cooperative program or
activity. Each program and activity shall be negotiated on an annual basis.
Art. 6.
In every letter of agreement concerning training, exchange programmes and collaborative
research, in any case the following topics will be arranged with mutual consent:
• Requirements concerning admittance of students to WU;
• Duration of the exchange or the collaborative research;
• Aim of the exchange or the collaborative research;
• Facilities, subject to the availability of funds, offered by Parties
Art 7.
UNALM shall provide a permanent coordinator for this cooperation in PERÚ and a list of
potential MS or PhD candidates.
Art 8.
UNALM will coordínate the academic and research activities to be carried out ¡n PERÚ in
cooperation with WU
Art. 9
This Memorándum of Understanding shall enter into forcé from the last
day of the subscription and will be valid for three (03) years which may
be renewed by agreement of the associated institutions, previous
evaluation.
