News from the Dugout...
Any point away from home is a good point and
I would have settled for that after the first 20
minutes because we got overrun. Farsley could
have been three or four up, they scored a great
goal and then Dan Lowson pulled off some great
saves that kept us in the game. It took us twenty
minutes to get into the game and if you do that
week in week out then you are going to get punished but we grew
into the game, scored a good goal and probably shaded it in the
second half and Glen Taylor could have nicked it right at the end
which would have been the icing on the cake but it could be a good
point if we win tonight.
Farsley have picked up recently, they have won the last few games,
they are a good side and you can see how they score goals as they
have some good talent going forward but we were poor in the first
half and miles away from where we need to be but we got a grip of
it in the second half and got closer with the back four closer to the
midfield and the midfield closer to the forwards but let’s see what
we can do this evening. Saturday wasn’t what we were looking for
but a point away from home is always a good point.
We go again tonight knowing that we have had a couple of difficult
games behind us with Glossop last Tuesday and then Farsley on
Saturday but we stay positive for tonight’s game because it’s the
middle of October and we are still unbeaten in the league so lets see
what this evening brings.

Glossop North End Match report...
In the FA Trophy Preliminary Round, Ten Man Spennymoor Town held
off a strong Glossop finish to earn a replay on Tuesday night at The
Brewery Field.
Moors had defender Paul Johnson sent off for a second bookable
offence with ten minutes remaining and only a combination of poor
finishing, resolute defending and another impressive display from on
loan Middlesbrough keeper Joe Fryer, ensured both sides will once
again do battle in a midweek replay.
Manager Jason Ainsley named the same team that was held to a
stalemate at Kendal Town on Tuesday night as regular keeper Dan
Lowson, defender Joe Tait and playmaker Anthony Peacock were still
ruled out with injury.
Moors made a dream start to the game by taking the lead in the
4th minute when James Risbrough’s shot was blocked by home
keeper Greg Hall and striker Danny Frost pounced from close
range to fire the Moors ahead. It was a confident start to the game
from Spennymoor and they almost made it two when Andrew
Stephenson got into a good position but he fired over.
Glossop soon found their feet and put Moors under pressure as
Ashley Stott had a good chance but he fired wide, and moments
later the scores were level when Fryer blocked a shot from Astley
Mulholland into the path of Tom Bailey who fired through a crowd of
players and into the back of the net.
Moors response was a long ranger from Liam Henderson which Hall
comfortably saved, and Johnson headed wide a Scott Kerr free kick
as the half came to a close.
Spennymoor just edged the first half but the second period belonged
to Glossop and they made their intentions clear by pressing Moors
back into their own half by forcing a number of corners.

Glossop came close again when a header by Stott came back off
the post and into the hands of Fryer, then a free kick was blazed
over by the hosts who were well in the driving seat. Moors sub Glen
Taylor fired narrowly wide in a rare attack by the visitors, meanwhile
the hosts thought they had found the winner when Kieran Lugsden
got on the end of a loose ball to the left of the penalty area but he
somehow fired wide with the goal at his mercy.
Glossop did have the ball in the back of the net but the effort was
ruled out for a foul in the build-up, before Moors were handicapped
further when Johnson was sent off for a foul, and this handed
Glossop further momentum with a string of attacks.
Substitute Jamie Rainford - the
league’s leading scorer - saw an
effort well saved by Fryer, and in
stoppage time the same striker
fired over.
Moors were the much happier side
at the final whistle, but they will
need a significant improvement in
the replay if they are to progress
and face Goole in the next round on
October 30th.
Glossop won’t fancy the long trek
from Derbyshire to County Durham
on a week night, but their results
this season indicate they won’t
be coming just to make up the
numbers.

Glossop North End Match report...
Spennymoor Town progressed into the next round of
the F.A.Trophy after edging out Glossop North End 3-2 in
Tuesday night’s replay at The Brewery Field.
Moors now host Goole AFC on Saturday 31st October
after a Shane Henry brace and a header from skipper
Chris Mason ensured the home side won an entertaining
encounter in what was the third meeting between the
two sides this season.
Moors made three changes to the team as Lewis Dodds,
Nathan Fisher and Gavin Cogdon came into the side
after Saturday’s 1-1 draw in North Derbyshire.
On a very fast pitch, both sides tried to make an early
statement as Henry curled a shot wide, then Moors
defender Paul Johnson - red carded on Saturday - pulled
down Kieran Lugsden after the striker wriggled away, but
luckily for him and Moors, full back Kallum Griffiths was
the covering defender meaning the Moors defender got a
yellow card.
Defences and the Midfield were on top just as they were
on Saturday, but Moors got the breakthrough in the
25th minute as Liam Henderson got down the right to
fire a low cross which Henry bravely poked home under
pressure from keeper Greg Hall and Michael Bowler, with
the latter hobbling off from the challenge to be replaced
by Sam Hare. Moors got on top and Cogdon was causing
all sorts of problems, and he got into the area to pick out
Andrew Stephenson who saw his shot blocked.
Glossop, however, levelled the scores in the 33rd minute
when a corner was won by Lugsden, and when the ball
was played into the area, Andrews was perfectly placed
to pick his spot into the far corner from 12yds. Moors
responded when Cogdon’s shot was deflected to Henry
who brought the ball down and fired a shot which keeper
Hall produced a stunning save low down to his left and
deny what looked a certain goal.

saw a grass cutter turned away, and Henry had a snap shot wide. The scores were
level at the break and the stage was set for the second half with Glossop starting
much better than Moors, after Henderson had a shot from the edge of the area
hit the woodwork, the home side were penned back as Mason had to produce a
last ditch tackle on Lugsden who advanced into the area. Moors defended well
especially under pressure, and on the break Fisher had a powerful shot beaten out
by Hall, meanwhile Glossop had a good chance when Lugsden saw a shot cleared
off the line by Stephen Capper.
Slightly against the run of play Moors went ahead in the 70th minute when man of
the match Henry got the ball on the edge of the box, swivelled and struck a low shot
past the dive of Hall into the back of the net.
The goal give Moors a big lift and they piled on the pressure as Henderson had a
dipping shot deflected over, before the decisive third goal arrived in the 73rd minute.
Stephenson’s corner was met by the run
of Mason and he glanced a brilliant header
over Hall and into the far corner.

Farsley Celtic Match report...
Spennymoor Town’s unbeaten start to the league season
continued following a 1-1 draw at Farsley Celtic.
It could have been much worse for Moors as they fell behind
inside four minutes when Lewis Nightingale curled a shot from
outside the area into the top corner, and Moors had to thank
returning keeper Dan Lowson after he pulled off two stunning
saves to keep the score to one as Celtic’s Kyle Hancock picked
out the run of Paul Walker inside the area but his shot was held
by the Moors stopper low down to his left.
Lowson came to the rescue once again with Moors defence
all at sea to save with his feet from a shot by Leon Osbourne
from Nightingale’s pass. Spennymoor scored to level the
scores on their first real attack in the 17th minute when Andrew
Stephenson raced into the area and his low cross was met by
top scorer Liam Henderson to slot home from close range.
The goal sparked Moors into life, as Henderson went close with
a well hit shot from an angle which keeper Tom Taylor turned
behind, then Shane Henry volleyed inches past the post from
an Henderson flick on.
Celtic should have done better in the 37th minute when Robbie
O’Brien pulled a shot wide of the mark from 10yds after a great
run and cross by Ross Daly, then Moors responded with Gavin
Cogdon who struck a delightful first time volley from another
Henderson assist, but his effort skimmed the top of the
woodwork. Stephenson headed wide from Stephen Capper’s
back post cross as the half came to a close with honours even.
O’Brien fired straight at Lowson at the start of the second
half when he met Walker’s pass on the edge of the area, then
Stephenson went on a mazy run

that saw him advance into the area but his tame shot was
saved at full stretch by Taylor.
Lowson proved to be Moors’ man of the match when he
pushed over a shot from Walker who twisted and turned to get
his shot away, before both sides made changes as they went
for the winner.
Glen Taylor sliced an effort wide from 16yds, then he met
Cogdon’s corner to plant a free header straight into the hands
of keeper Tom Taylor.
The latter stages saw both sides
have chances, Farsley went
close when Walker headed over
at the far post, then late in the
game, Glen Taylor could have
snatched all three points when
he got the better of defender
Adam Clayton to a high ball and
he turned to run into the box
with just the keeper to beat who
came out to spread himself and
block his shot.
Line-Up...
It would have been harsh on
Celtic had it gone in, as they
played much better than their
lowly league position on the day,
and overall a draw was probably
a fair result.

Brighouse Town
The club was originally formed in 1963, as a representative side of the
Blakeborough Valve Company of Brighouse and their home games were
played on the Woodhouse Recreation Ground, with the side competing in the
Huddersfield Works League. The club gained various league honours over the
years, the most successful coming in the 1968/69 season, when they won both
the League Cup as well as the Halifax District Cup.
Following this success, the club took the huge step of obtaining its own ground
at Hove Edge. Whilst at Green Lane, where they played for more than a decade,
they achieved two more league titles before taking another major step, in
applying for and achieving West Riding County Amateur League status in 1975.
The club thrived there, until their Green Lane ground was developed for housing,
upon which they moved to their present ground, just round the corner, on St
Giles Road. There followed a period of stagnation, competing mainly in the
lower divisions of the WRCAL until 1988 when the demise of the Blakeborough
Company resulted in a new outlook, as well as a new name. This change proved
to be the catalyst for the most successful period in the clubs history so far.
The newly named Brighouse Town AFC won promotion to the WRCA Premier
Division in their first season, as well as winning the WRCAL Division One Cup. In
1991 the Premier Division Championship was won for the first time and in 1992
soon followed the West Riding County Challenge Cup. In 1994 Town won the
Premier Division League Cup and were runners up in the County Challenge Cup,
and they were Premier Division Champions again in 1995.
Season 1995/96 was perhaps the most successful season in the clubs history
so far. Brighouse Town once again won the WRCAL Premiership title and also
completed the double by winning the WRCA League Cup. They also won the
Bob Wedgeworth Memorial Trophy.
Season 2008-09, saw the club make the significant step into SemiProfessional football by entering and being accepted into the Northern
FC History...
Counties East League Division One. After only two seasons in NCEL Division
One, the Club won promotion to the NCEL Premier Division under the guidance
of Mark Brier and Daz Attwood. 2011/12 Season saw the appointment of Paul
Quinn as Manager and after 4th and 2nd place finishes in his first two seasons,
the NCEL Premier Title was achieved with a record points total in 2013/14 – the
Clubs 50th anniversary season.

Promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League
Division One North brought the highest level of football
in the history of the Club only six years after leaving
the West Riding County Amateur League, and a new
and exciting challenge lay ahead. A very respectable
15th place finish was achieved in Club’s inaugural
season and with valuable experience gained and Paul
Quinn still at the helm, further progress is hoped for in
2015/16 season.

diary of a groundhopper... As I was in Prague for the week I had a look on the internet to see what
fixtures were on in the Synot Liga (Czech First Division) and on the Saturday
26 September 2015 I saw the fixture between Dukla Prague and Zbrojovka
Brno. At the time Brno were in 9th position with Dukla one place below
them in 10th. I’m not sure if you can buy tickets on the day but I bought my
tickets the day before at the club office which is a 5 minute walk through
a leafy suburb to a large mansion type house where you can purchase the
tickets. The tickets were 140 Czech Crowns for an adult which
is around £3.90 and a concession was 80 Crowns which is
around £2.20 so is a real bargain compared to the United
Kingdom. If you ever go to Prague make sure you purchase a
one day ticket which cost 110 Crowns and is around just over
£3 and you can use this ticket on the underground, trams and
buses for up to 24 hours including the night trams and buses
a real bargain. The other ticket is a 3 day ticket at 310 Crowns
and is slightly cheaper at £9.
On the day my fiancée and me caught the underground to
Hradcanska and then the 119 bus up to the Juliska Stadium where Dukla
Prague play. The bus takes around 10 minutes to get there and is high on a
hill. We arrived around an hour before the kick-off and was surprised that the
turnstiles were not even open so they were not expecting a large crowd for
this match against Brno. Once the turnstiles were opened and we got in it
was firstly to get a programme which cost 20 Crowns around 60 pence for a
glossy 24 pager and is a nice issue for my collection.
Although not understanding the language it still looked like a
decent issue. Next was to have a look at the food and drink.
Beer was 35 Crowns about £1 as was the coca cola with tea and
coffee costing 25 Crowns about 70 pence. Sausages were 50
Crowns around £1.40 whilst Bramboray (a potato pancake)
was 40 and was around £1.10. Sweets and popcorn were 25
and 40 Crowns which I thought was very reasonable. The
prices were more like a Evo-Stik League and Northern League
than a big First Division match. Next we sat down in the main
stand and the Juliska Stadium is one of my favourite ground
in Prague with stunning views over Prague itself and I love the main stand
which is a huge main stand similar to Gateshead’s and the Meadowbank
Stadium in Edinburgh but it still has the feel of an old style stand.
The crowd I thought was around 1000 to 1200 with around 20 to 30
supporters making the long 3 hour journey from Brno. Dukla at one time were
one of the best sides in Europe never mind the Czech Republic or at the time
Czechoslovakia and even reached the European Cup Semi Final in 1967 but

taken over the mantle of being
the best sides in Prague with
Sparta at the time sitting top
of the Synot Liga.
The Dukla song was booming out as the two sides entered the arena on a
cool but dry afternoon at the end of September.
The match itself was in the main poor but livened up after 40 minutes when
a fine cross from the right was met by Dukla’s top scorer Thomas Berger with
a fine diving header but Brno’s keeper made a fine save pushing the ball onto
the post then grabbing it but to everybody’s amazement the linesman on
the far side gave a goal. Brno’s keeper was booked for arguing but I must say
from my position in the stand it was nowhere near a goal. Anyway the goal
stood and it was 1-0 at half time after a poor first half. At the start of the
second half Miroslav Kerestes the Brno defender had his shot well saved by
the Dukla keeper.
There was more action in the first 10 minutes of the second half than there
had been the whole of the first half with Brno now having a real go and the
match was end to end. On 63 minutes a cross from the right was missed
by the Dukla defenders and this time Brno’s forward Jakub Reznicek scored
with a fine diving header to level the scores at 1-1.
Almost immediately Dukla had the ball in the net
but the goal was quite rightly ruled out for offside.

Almost regained the lead for Prague but the ball
was brilliantly saved by the Brno keeper. After a
few close calls at both ends it’s Brno who take the
lead again and it’s Reznicek who scores again this
time the ball breaks to him on the edge of the box
and he slots the ball home to the delight of the
Brno fans. Dukla had chances after this to equalise
but I thought they were trying to walk the ball into
the net instead of shooting and in the end Brno win
the match 2-1.
After a poor first half the match certainly livened up in the second half and
was played more like a cup tie so another enjoyable game and day out was
had by myself and my fiancée.

Latest News...
Tunnel Area
The club have been monitoring the tunnel area since the start
of the season as part of the ground regulations which are set
upon us by the league and FA. This has been identified as a
high risk area for trips/falls and also an area of congestion
during the half time period.
The club have therefore decided as from Tuesday 13th
October, the tunnel will remain fully extended for the duration
of the half time period for all games, Supporters are therefore
asked to use an alternative route to the bar and refreshment
area during this period.
Away club officials are permitted to use the tunnel area for
access to the board room when given the all clear by a club
steward and the club hospitality official will accompany
away officials to the board room.

Saturday’s First Division North action review
There are new leaders of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League’s First
Division North on Saturday after Glossop North End’s 2-0 win at home
against Kendal Town took them a point ahead of Northwich Victoria,
writes Pitchero’s Steve Whitney.
The Hillians took full advantage of Vics being on FA Cup duty to win, thanks
to a Jamie Rainford brace in the 12th and 17th minutes. Warrington Town
are third after a 6-3 hammering of Harrogate Railway Athletic at Cantilever
Park. Ben Deegan gave the Wire an 18th minute lead that was extended by
Scott Metcalfe 10 minutes later. Ciaran Kilheeney added a third four minutes
after the break and Deegan made it 4-0 less than a minute later, with Chris
Gahgan making it a nap hand just shy of the hour-mark. Manager Sean Reid
wouldn’t have been happy at then conceding three goals to a Tom Owen
brace and Charlie Clamp in the final 10 minutes, although Nathan Burke did
have the final say with Town’s sixth. Spennymoor Town lost ground in fourth
after being held to a 1-1 draw at Throstle Nest by Farsley Celtic.
Lewis Nightingale gave the home side the boost of an early fourth minute lead
that Liam Henderson levelled 11 minutes later. Witton Albion are finding some
form and are now eighth after a comprehensive 5-0 win at Ingfield against
Ossett Town. A Danny Andrews penalty gave Albion a 15th minute lead that
Chris Baker doubled right on half-time. Alex Titchiner, George Grayson and
Jamie Matthews made it a comfortable second period for Albion.
Improving Prescot Cables made it a miserable day for Ossett after beating
Albion 4-0 at Valerie Park. After Lloyd Dean’s 4th minute opener, Rob Doran
took over by netting a hat-trick in the 45th, 78th and 90th minutes. New Mills
are still win-less after twelve matches but are getting closer after going down
2-3 at home to Clitheroe. The Millers were two-up through Ben Connolly and
Dean McGregor inside the opening five minutes. But by the 22nd minute the
Blues were 3-2 ahead, courtesy of Scott Harries, Scott Bakkor and Louis
Mayers.
Mossley AFC enjoyed a good 2-0 win at Queensgate against Scarborough
Athletic, thanks to goals from Michael Fish after 17 minutes and David Short
on 31 minutes. And Trafford were the day’s other winners, beating Radcliffe
Borough 2-0 with goals from Phil Dean on 12 minutes and then Jack Dorney
right at the end of the game. The game between Brighouse Town and
Lancaster City finished all-square at 2-2, with Ryan Hall giving the home side
a 14th minute lead that Ryan Winder cancelled out from the spot.
After Adam Wilson had restored the hosts’ lead just before the break, Aaron
Taylor grabbed a stoppage time leveller for the Dolly Blues’ new boss Phil
Brown.
