Coming in 2011 – new South Wing The 258,000 square-foot South Wing will open much-needed space for providing the highest standard of pediatric care possible. The new ED will include telemedicine technology and four trauma rooms, as well as a dedicated orthopedics suite and a decontamination unit. In addition, the South Wing will open new space for the NICU and CVICU to accommodate the growing demand for their services. An entirely new Hematology/Oncology unit will open in the South Wing for the state’s pediatric cancer and blood disorder patients, as will a new inpatient unit dedicated for care of infants through 3-year-olds. The project actually will provide about 100 new patient beds, but the hospital plans to retire many that date back more than 40 years. The net increase in patient beds will be 54. The new South Wing also will include 56 new exam rooms, as well as 19 new procedural or diagnostic rooms. A roof garden complete with benches, Arkansas foliage and play areas will be open to patients, families and employees. Why I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program: There are many reasons but here are a few. The attendings are great to work with and are always willing to teach. The residents are very supportive of each other and are willing to stay late in house to help others with their work. I also love the hospital itself. It has all the needed facilities and the nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists and the rest of the staff are terrific! And last but not least, everyone in the housestaff office. They make you feel at home and are willing to help in any way they can! - PGY-1 resident What I like best about the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program: The people. The residents, staff, and faculty make this place great. I’d be hard-pressed to run out of kind things to say about the folks I’ve met and worked with here. We’re really well taken care of as residents, the hospital is great, and there are lots of little (& big) perks that sure help out. If you ever need a helping hand, someone’s always got your back…even before you ask. - PGY- 2 resident Someone wise once told me, “Do your residency in a resident-driven program, then do your fellowship in a fellow-driven program.” Great advice I would say, and I think I got the best of both worlds. What I tell applicants is that there are probably several good places to learn to be a great pediatrician, but there's no place that's better than ACH. – • Brian Eble Now: Assistant Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at ACH – Residency: July 1999 to June 2002 – Med School: University of Missouri - Columbia
