presentation focused on the transformation
between Qatar’s past and present;
juxtaposing it with the parallel growth and

In the business world, email
leaves an electronic paper trail,
which is important. Some of its
positive uses are:
• Informational Messages
• Announcements
• Delivering and Collaborating
with business documents
• Company Policy Statements
• Quick Responses to Simple
Questions
Tip #1: Begin each email with a
greeting. No matter how pressed
for time you are, a simple greeting
such as “Hi,” “Hello,” or “Dear X”
is good etiquette. Otherwise, if
you launch into your email
without a greeting or introduction
you risk being perceived as
impolite or impatient.
Tip #4: Ask permission before
forwarding another person’s
email correspondence. Even if
you’re confident the other person
wouldn’t mind if you forward their
email to someone else, it’s proper
etiquette to check first, so you
don’t risk violating their trust.
Tip #5: Reply to emails in a
timely fashion. If you know in
advance you can’t give an email
the attention it deserves, at the
moment, give the sender a quick
heads-up that you have received
their email but haven’t had time
to review it yet.
Where some people seem to
struggle is when they use email
to deliver complex, emotional
or controversial messaging.
Unfortunately, since there isn’t
a warm voice accompanying
the message, or a handshake
sealing a deal, email messaging
can easily be misinterpreted,
leading to sometimes painful
consequences, for both the
sender and the receiver
email brief, and to the point, and
you’ll also increase your chances
of getting a timely reply.
Tip #2: Take the time to ensure
your subject line accurately
reflects the contents and nature
of your email. This will go a long
way to ensure that your email gets
the attention and consideration it
deserves.
Tip #3: Be as concise as
possible. Your recipients will
appreciate it if you keep your
Tip #6: Send personal emails
from your non-work account.
Sending personal emails from
work is generally “frowned upon”
in business, but occasionally we all
need to send a personal email
during working hours. In this
instance, use a web-based email
account such as Yahoo or Hotmail.
Tip #7: Remember that your
business email, both the address
and all correspondence, is the
property of the company you
work for. Anything you’ve ever
sent or received–even if you’ve
deleted it–could potentially be
retrieved from the system by a
database administrator at any
time.
Tip #8: Use the blind carbon
copy (BCC) function when you
send a bulk email. Some people
consider having their email
address exposed to a long list of
strangers an invasion of privacy.
Tip #9: Always proofread email
before sending! Check for
spelling, edit awkward sentences
and soften message tone. Delete
unnecessary text (previous strings,
if replying to an email) unless they
are relevant to the conversation.
Tip #10: Wait until after you’ve
proofread your message to enter
in email addresses. Hitting the
“send” button at the wrong
moment can be both
embarrassing and disastrous!!

sharing a few images of those
who have been participating in
the programme and have sat

with the
COO
On the 23rd March 2013, 6:00-11:00 PM the
Qatar National Convention Centre was all
abuzz with Ali Bin Ali Group’s FMCG Division
holding its Annual Employee Gathering. With
our FMCG Division encompassing more than a

staff and families from ABAP, LOGISTICS, IA,
PCP, and QQP all come together as one. This
Get Together marked the 2nd such event for
the FMCG team, with the first gathering
having taken place in 2010. The gathering
exceeded 900 people. Senior level
representatives from the Head Office were
among those who were
present along with FMCG

The event was very well
organised and most of the
action took place in 2 halls
namely Main hall and
Kids Zone. The evening’s
programme was dotted by
cultural events and other
forms of entertainment.
Different members of staff
also participated in various
cultural events, which formed part of the talent show
scheduled for the night. The show covered Solo
Singing, Skits, Hip Hop Dance routines etc, all done by
the employees.
In a special segment of the proceedings the launching

without limits. It will extend from
a GM level and go lower to the
lowest ranks reaching, lets say
someone who does a very small
job. Our focus includes every one.
So we are talking about a
development objective that
spreads through 10 different
layers. In FMCG we are talking
about 15 job categories.
How many people will be
reached by the programme?
The total staff of the FMCG is 800
people. This number grows around
10% every year and I can say
without hesitation the program
will reach every single one of
them.
What does People for
Tomorrow consists of? Are
there phases of the
programme?
Mr. Nabil Mourad
COO - FMCG
The Dot is
delighted to bring
you an interview
with the head of
our FMCG Sector,
Nabil Mourad.
FMCG has a
reputation for
launching
innovative
programmes and
in this edition
Nabil gives us a
glimpse of People
For Tomorrow,
FMCG's latest and
most innovative
project yet.

everyone. It will reach
and develop every single
employee.”
go from classroom to one on one
coaching. As I said this will effect
and reach everyone in the
organization. In addition to that
we are going to develop a set of
tools to be able to evaluate people
properly and have feedback on
how people are progressing. Step
number four is which will run in
parallel to all steps is the right
compensation, benefits,
motivation, people retention
one category because we have
people with different needs. We
will have dedicated training
programs for every job category.
So can we can tell every
single FMCG employee that
their turn will come?
Yes we can do that 100%. Its not
like any project that is merely on
paper. The entire senior
management team of FMCG is all
involved in this programme. We
have a responsibility because we know this will be rolled out to
the rest of the Group. So as
pioneers we have to make sure
that it works effectively.
Why now?
Tell us about FMCG's latest
initiative the "People For
Tomorrow" Programme. How
was it born?
At FMCG when we say tomorrow,
we are looking into the future. We
consider tomorrow as 10 years
from now. Like say 2022. So we
brain stormed at an offsite
meeting held at The Torch hotel 50 FMCG managers were there. At
that gathering we were all in
agreement that - business
environment will change in 10
years. We will be called to do
business differently with our
clients and principals - the trade,
support functions with internal
operations will change. In fact
even our customers will change.
Technology will be different. So in
this new environment, we faced
the fact that we will need people
with a different set of skills and
competencies. We accepted and
admitted that the people of today
will likely be unable to cope. That
was our starting point. We had a
strong desire that said "If the
environment changes, let's make
sure the people we have will also
be able to adapt, and become
effective in handling that new
environment. We want to make
sure that our people are ready for
tomorrow" That's how our People
for Tomorrow program was born.
What are the objectives
behind it?
The beauty of the objectives lies in
the fact that this program is not
about a new structure or about
new policies or procedures. This
program is about our people. Our
objective is developing our people.
Making them equipped, capable
and ready for tomorrow. Investing
in our people - without borders,
"Business environment will change in
10 years... We will need people with a
different set of skills & competencies...
We want to make sure that our people
are ready for tomorrow"
The process will start with an
assessment. That's a step where
our people's current competencies
and capabilities will be assessed.
That step is already in progress.
We have assigned one GM to
handle each step of our four step
process. We have developed the
tools to assess every employee by
job category. So every job has its
own set of skills and
competencies. At this stage we
will also assess the needs our
employees have. Simultaneously
we will develop a picture where
each employee will be placed on a
sort of a format that will show
where our 800 people are. At
what level are they performing?
This placement will easily show us
the top performers and poor
performers. And all the people in
between.
Second step is identifying
training needs. These training
needs will have one goal: to equip
the employee to advance. The top
performers will also be given more
of a chance to progress. It’s a
process of placing the right people
at the right position and highlight
the extremely poor performers. So
that's step two. Once we have
done that we go into learning
and development which is a
mega project. This is to train and
develop the 800. The training can
and talent acquisition. At the
highest we have a program called
the Star programme which
identifies the stars on board who
will truly become the leaders of
tomorrow.
Is there any time limit for
this program?
There are certain parts of the
project which are now in progress
like the people assessments.
Certain parts will finish in 2013.
But as is to be expected some
programs will be ongoing. Like the
training and development aspect.
We cannot say we have trained
and developed all our people. So
training and development is on
going. It is worth mentioning that
the Operating Board has decided
to pilot this programme in FMCG
and after that roll it out to the rest
of the Ali Bin Ali Group.
Will it reach all the
employees?
Yes. I will give an example. Let's
start with an example of junior
people. We have at least 150
merchandisers in FMCG and we
have another 150 van salesmen.
We have special programs for
merchandisers, for training and
development and special programs
for van salesman. We will not put
all the trainees in one room and in
Well as a matter of fact I think we
are late in starting such an
initiative. We waited because we
needed certain ground realities to
be in place. Even to start an effort
like this you need the retention of
the right people. We had to be in a
position to retain talent and attract

Green
d t
From avocados to
Brussels sprouts to
green tea, a surprising
number of green foods
can help fight disease
and protect your
health. Why don't you
give green eats a try?
Everyone knows
veggies are a must in
any healthy diet — the
phrase “eat your
greens” has been
drilled into us since
childhood. Even if
you’re not a fan of dark
green produce (we
recommend you give it
a second chance), you
can still reap tons of
health benefits from a
variety of green
veggies & fruits. Read
on and see why the
rest of your pantry will
go green with envy.

1. Avocados: Protect
Your eyes
Avocados do
contain a lot of fat
(about 23
grams in a
medium-sized
fruit), but it's
the cholesterollowering monounsaturated kind
that nutrition experts love.
Avocados also contain lutein, an
antioxidant that protects eye
health, and they're rich in vitamin
E. Research shows that people
who get the most vitamin E from
their diet (not supplements) have
a lower risk of Alzheimer's disease.
Avocados are a wonderfully
versatile addition to salads, tacos,
soups, and sandwiches
2. Nopales: Lower Your
Blood Sugar
Also known as
nopalitos or
prickly pear,
they’re a type
of cactus leaf
packed with fiber as well as
vitamin C and other diseasefighting antioxidants. Nopales are
an especially healthy option for
people with diabetes; research
shows the cactus leaves can lower
blood sugar levels.
3. Kale: Fight Cancer
Kale belongs to the powerhouse
family of greens known as
cruciferous
veggies, a fancy
word for the
cabbage family.
All cruciferous
vegetables
contain cancerfighting plant compounds and
vitamin C. Kale in particular also
has bone-boosting vitamin K,
vision- and immune-boosting
vitamin A, and even antiinflammatory omega-3 fatty acids.
4. Kiwi: Fill Up on Fiber
Research
shows
kiwifruit is
surprisingly
nutrient-
dense. According to the California
Kiwifruit Commission, this fuzzy
green fruit provides 230 percent of
the recommended daily allowance
of vitamin C (almost twice that of
an orange), more potassium than
a banana, and 10 percent of the
recommended daily allowances of
vitamin E and folate. It’s also a
good source of filling fiber. Slice
some kiwi into your cereal, yogurt,
or salad for a refreshing health
boost.
5. edamame: Cut Your
Cholesterol
These soybeans are a
longtime
Japanese diet
staple. A
complete plantbased protein,
edamame is a
good protein source for
vegetarian and vegan diets. While
some experts caution that you
should avoid soy supplements and
processed soy foods because soy’s
estrogen-like effects may
contribute to health problems,
whole soy foods like edamame are
a smart and healthy choice. When
eaten in place of fatty meat, soy
may lower cholesterol by reducing
saturated fat intake.
6. Green Tea: Try a
Health Super Hero
Reams of studies have
deemed green
tea — with
its potent
antioxidants
— a health
panacea; it’s
been linked to a lower risk of heart
disease, certain cancers, diabetes,
inflammatory bowel disease, and
more. Steep a cup in the morning
to start your day on a superhealthy note.
and antibacterial properties. Snip
some leaves into salads, pasta, or
any Italian dish.
8. Seaweed:
Get Your
Minerals Here
Seaweed — another Japanese
cuisine mainstay — is gaining
popularity in the
West, in part
because
it's chockfull of
minerals.
Seaweed is
a solid source of iodine (essential
for thyroid health), packs a healthy
dose of iron, and has unique antiinflammatory and anti-viral
properties.
7. Basil: Calm Inflammation 9. Green Beans:
Herbs — loaded with vitamins
and antioxidants — are
underrated health
foods. Basil in
particular is a good
source of vitamin K and
iron; fresh basil leaves also
boast anti-inflammatory
Stabilize Your Blood Sugar
Also called string beans, green
beans are a common side dish in
Southern
cooking.
They’re
loaded
with
fiber, which can help lower
cholesterol and stabilize blood
sugar, making them an excellent
choice for people with diabetes.
for a healthy dose of inulin — a
“prebiotic” that promotes digestive
health — and is high in fiber
(about 3 grams per cup) and
protein (4 to 5 grams per cup).
10. Green Pepper:
Load Up on Antioxidants
Colorful red, yellow, and orange
peppers may get more health
accolades for their cancer-fighting
lycopene, but
green peppers
can certainly
hold their
own. They’re
a good source
of many important
nutrients, including vitamin C, beta
carotene (a type of vitamin A),
folate, and vitamin K. Dip them in
hummus for a healthy snack, add
them to salads for extra crunch.

of No Use, When Diet is Correct

11. Asparagus:

This springtime vegetable
is rich in vitamins K, C, A,
and folate; it also has a
number of anti-inflammatory
nutrients. Asparagus is famous

Attractions
in
Brazil
One of the world’s most
captivating places, Brazil is
South America’s giant, a
dazzling country of powdery
white-sand beaches, pristine
rain forests and wild, rhythmfilled metropolises. Brazil’s
attractions extend from
enchanting, frozen-in-time
colonial towns to dramatic
landscapes of red-rock
canyons, thundering
waterfalls and idyllic tropical
islands. Brazil offers big
adventures for travellers with
budgets large and small.
There’s horseback riding in
the Pantanal, kayaking
flooded forests in the
Amazon, ascending rocky cliff
tops to breathtaking views,
whale-watching off the coast,
surfing stellar breaks off
palm-fringed beaches and
snorkeling crystal-clear rivers
or coastal reefs – all part of
the great Brazilian
experience.
Christ the Redeemer Statue
- Rio de Janeiro
Towering over Rio de Janeiro, atop
the Corcovado mountain, the Christ
Redeemer statue is 125 feet (38 m)
tall, including the pedestal. The
pedestal contains a chapel large
enough for 150 worshipers. The
Christ Redeemer statue was
designed by Heitor da Silva Costa
and carved by French sculptor Paul
Landowski. The Christ Redeemer
statue took five years to construct
and was inaugurated on October 12,
1931. In 2007, the Christ Redeemer
statue was named one of the New 7
Wonders of the World. Devotees
flock to the site to get a sense of the
peace and hope it provides, and
ordinary tourists approach it to
appease their curiosity regarding
the spirituality that this statue
evokes on most people. Once in Rio,
you could get a taxi that will bring

square kilometers of land. The
majority of the forest is situated
within Brazil, and thousands of
people venture there to explore
them every year. The Amazon jungle
was nominated as one of the new
seven wonders of nature, and it is no
surprise why when you see them.
Within the Amazon jungle, there are
some incredible plants and flowers
that you will see nowhere else in the
world. There are a staggering 2500
different species of tree in the rain
forest and over 40,000 different plant
species. Alongside the most amazing
plants, there
are a huge
Iguazu Falls
Taller than Niagara
Falls, twice as wide
with 275 cascades
spread in a horseshoe
shape over nearly two
miles of the Iguazu
River. Four times the
width of Niagara Falls,
Iguazu Falls are
divided by various
islands into separate waterfalls. One
of the best known is Devil's Throat
or Gargantua del Diablo with its
perpetual spray high over the falls.
Other notable falls are the San
Martin, Bossetti, and Bernabe
Mendez. The falls are part of a
singular practically virgin jungle
ecosystem protected by Argentine
and Brazilian national parks on
either side of the cascades. Two
thirds of the falls are on the
Argentinian side of the river where
you can also tour Iguazú National
Park where there are jungle trails
and bird hikes.
The Amazon Rainforest
The Amazon Rainforest is one of the
most spectacular places on earth and
covers an incredible six million
number of
exotic
animals,
insects and
birds. There is an overwhelming 2.5
million different insect species within
the Amazon jungle, and in one tree
alone, there was recorded to have 50
different species of ant. Butterflies
can be seen flying throughout the
Amazon rain forest, and there are
7500 different species.
Chapada Diamantina
National Park
Known as Chapada Diamantina, this
scenery mountain range runs north
and south through the state of
Bahia,) offers some of the most
amazing landscapes you can find in
the country. Most of the attractions
at the Chapada are the trails to
caves, hills and waterfalls that have
as departure point the city of
Lençóis. Everything in the Chapada
is wonderful, but the waterfalls
deserve special attention. The most
famous is the Cachoeira da Fumaça,
the highest fall in the country,
where the water does not have
sufficient volume to overcome the
drop of 380 meters and the force of
the wind cooperates in transforming
the water into vapour - a real
spectacle
Aquario Natural
The crystalline waters of the
Aquário Natural are the main
attraction of the Bonita Bay
Ecological Reserve. The
diversity of the river´s fauna
and flora makes the tourist
feel literally within an
aquarium. The ideal is to
snorkel down the river, but
there is also the option to
accompany the group on a
support boat. The pool of
the main house is also used to
educate visitors about the use of
mask and snorkel. Besides the
aquarium, the Trail of animals is
another unforgettable attraction of
the reserve, through which animals,
like rheas, alligators, deer, wolves
and anacondas, can be seen.
Equally clear and colorful is a drift
along the nearby Rio Sucuri
(reached by a one-hour hike) where
it’s hard to decide whether to look
down through the blue-green
waters or up at the lush pink and
purple stands of orchids lining the
riverbank.

But how far, do people in general

mentioning to me that it all looks

YOUR ROAD TO SUCCESS
nice in conferences and
presentations but in actual life, it is
not. A general technique or
principle cannot apply to every
individual’s dreams and
aspirations.
But I beg to differ here.
I strongly believe it is just not the
right technique required to achieve
the goal but the right mindset to
accept the things as they are,
analyse and then arrive at a clear
defined goal that will
predetermine your action to
achieve that.
Success in today’s modern
industrial world is linked to the
capacity of achieving long term
goals. Whether it is long term or
short term, achieving your desired
goals or dreams can be possible
only from any or all of the
following plans of action:
1- Make a step by Step Plan.
2- Motivate yourself by drawing
inspiration from the person or role
model who has achieved his or her
well defined goals.
3- Share your goals with those
close to you, that will increase your
motivation.
4- Analyse and Visualize what if
you don’t achieve your goals.
5- Analyse and Visualize what if
you achieve your goals.
6- Replace the emerging negative
thoughts with positive thoughts
and confidence.
7- Make Yourself feel good when
you see the progress towards your
goal.
8- Have a constant check on your

9- Visualize how your life would
be once you achieve your defined
goal.
These are not just plans of action
but the inspirational /
motivational steps which have
been tried, tested and proved to
be successful while implementing.
Be it a layman car mechanic or a
