Big Eyes (2014), PG 13 - 105 minutes
Thursday, July 16th, 1:30 p.m.
The true story of painter Margaret Keane’s life who
lives her life in obscurity while her second husband
gains notoriety for being the face of her work brought
to the screen by Tim Burton. This story opens in the
late 1950s, when Margaret Keane (Amy Adams)
packs up the car with her daughter and their personal
belongings, and leaves her first husband to start a new
life in San Francisco. There, Margaret quickly reconnects
with her old friend Dee Ann (Krysten Ritter), and falls
head over heels for Walter (Christoph Waltz), an artist
and part-time real-estate broker who shows great interest
in her unique paintings of small children with strikingly
expressive, saucer-like eyes. After they are married Walter
starts claiming credit for Margaret’s increasingly popular
paintings. Margaret initially agrees to go along with the
ruse but begins to realize that her new husband is little more
than a smooth-talking scam artist. Later, riddled with guilt
over the fact that she’s been deceiving her own daughter as
her paintings become a pop-culture phenomenon, Margaret
leaves the increasingly abusive Walter, and moves to
Hawaii with her daughter. Only then does Margaret gain
the confidence to reclaim the works that have been credited
to her husband and she goes before a judge to prove that
she alone created the enchanting children with the big eyes.

McFarland, USA (2015), PG-129 minutes
Thursday, August 20th, 1:30 p.m.
In this inspiring Disney sports drama based on actual
events, Kevin Costner plays a high-school football coach
who ends up leading a cross-country track team made
up of lower-class Latino students to a state championship.
Jim White (Costner) finds his days as a football coach
numbered when an incident with a player leads to his
dismissal. Desperate for work, he moves his wife (Maria
Bello) and daughters (Morgan Saylor and Elsie Fisher) from
Idaho to McFarland, CA, a rural town that’s predominately
Latino and the only place willing to give him a teaching
job. One day White has an epiphany when he sees his
students running from their early-morning farming jobs to
school: Why not channel their talents into running crosscountry track? Soon enough, White is connecting with his
young charges, particularly a gifted athlete named Thomas
(Carlos Pratts), and the squad set their sights on a state
championship.
