1999 was due to export businesses.
• Export-related jobs pay wages 13-20% higher than the
national average.
• Of 205,000 U.S. export companies, 96.5% are small or
medium-sized firms (197,825)
• More than 20% of goods produced in the United States
are exported.
• In 1999, Alabama’s exports totaled nearly $4.9 billion
