1 of} Flowers{ A Letter From the Chair & Vice-Chair Welcome! Welcome back, Friends and Fans! My team and I are so pleased to present to you the 2nd annual Hanadoki Con! Our journey began over 3 years ago, and it continues to be a wild and exciting ride, and thanks to everyone- we can proudly say that we are San Diego’s anime con! We would not be where we are today without all the hard work of our dedicated staff, our exhibitors and artists, the talents of our amazing guests, and most importantly- you, the fans. Without your support, enthusiasm and belief in us, well, there is no us! -You guys are our heart and soul, and we thank you for being here for us. Whether this is your first con or your 50th, there is something for all of you to enjoy. Be it panels, workshops, to our special themed events-(Ikebana and Tea Ceremony!), there is never a dull moment. We hope you have a blast, and if you see me around, don’t be shy! Come say hi! – I’ll even be in a new purple dress this year!! Welcome! {Festival( Special Illustration by Sheena Duquette Warmest Regards, Allison Meyer Convention Chair Hello Everyone, First off I want to say welcome back to all of our attendees. Without you, Hanadoki Con could not happen. I can’t believe a year has passed since our inaugural and successful HDC.. Even now we continue to receive and encouragement about what we are doing. This only confirms that we made the right choice about San Diego. Anime fans in and around the area want a special place to celebrate and share their interests. That is why you, our guests, and staff made our freshman year as a con a memorable one. Moving forward, the challenge has been set. And I hope everyone, both returning and first timers (welcome!!!), is as excited as I am for what we have in store this year. Let’s commit to make this legen... (wait for it) ...dary! Together, I know we can. Sincerely, John Ramirez Vice-Chair Some wise words from Vice-Chair Toni Shelton- aka “Miku” 2 Hello Conventions attendees- have a great time and enjoy yourselves! We’ve put all this together especially for you! But most importantly- Praise Miku! 3 Thank you to our Sponsors! Welcome to Hanadoki! It is everyone’s responsibility to let everyone have a safe, respectful, and fun weekend. • Offensive behavior, language, sexually explicit conduct, obscene gestures or racial, religious or ethnic slurs are not tolerated. • Cosplay is not consent. We have a Zero Tolerance Policy. 6 • If it is illegal outside of the convention, it is illegal here. Excessive or underage alcohol use, drug use, harassment, carrying firearms, and many other things are illegal, and will result in your loss of the privilege to attend our convention. If you have a safety or security concern, bring it to the convention’s operations center immediately. • If you are hosting a party where alcohol is being served, it is your responsibility as host to ensure that the age of anyone drinking alcohol is checked. Hanadoki Con will not take any responsibility for any parties occurring in private hotel rooms. • Underage drinking is prohibited anywhere inside and outside the convention. The Town and Country is an outdoor resort hotel, and public intoxication is illegal. Please be mindful of the hotel staff, other guests and the property. Take care of your hotel room as you would want your own home cared for, and be respectful of hotel staff and other hotel guests that are not convention attendees. Information Information Welcome to Hanadoki Con! In order to provide a safe, enjoyable environment, and to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible, there are a few guidelines to adhere to during the event. Code of Conduct • What to do in case of an emergency: In case of an emergency (medical or otherwise) – contact the hotel first! The hotel will have an EMT on duty, and can call 911 if needed. If you cannot get in contact with the hotel, go to Convention Operations, and they can get in contact with the hotel for you. Calling 911 should be a last resort, and only if you cannot get a hold of the hotel and Convention Operations. These rules apply to all types of attendees, including exhibitors, press, and other con attendees. Violation of the rules may result in the loss of your badge. • Photography and video recording of any kind are 7 Weapons Policy All props must be inspected by Convention Operations staff to make sure that they meet these requirements. If a prop is okayed for convention use, it will be peace-bonded to show its passing grade; any prop that is not peace-bonded will be directed to Convention Operations to have their weapon inspected. Repeated instances of a prop lacking peace-bonding may result in confiscation of the prop or revocation of membership. 8 Con Suite is located in Suite 2108, 1st floor, Regency Tower. We know that in between cosplay gatherings, panels, hanging out with friends and photoshoots, one can really work up an appetite, and sometimes it can be hard to get away to grab a bite, so the con suite is here to help! We’d hate to have any of our attendees go hungry, so remember to be courteous to fellow attendees and con suite staff so we can continue to provide you guys with all the snacks and goodies you love. Information Information In order to promote a safe and welcoming environment at Hanadoki Con, we find it necessary to check over the various prop weapons and items brought to con, and make sure they are appropriate to be present in our convention spaces. For obvious legal reasons, any weapons or firearms that are illegal under federal, state or municipal law are not permitted on convention policy. All real guns, swords, knives, axes and any other weapon capable of causing injury to others is not permitted on convention grounds. All firearm props are to have an orange tip, be unloaded at all times, and be unable to fire projectiles. No weapon is to have a sharpened edge, or an open point that could accidentally jab into another attendee. Any prop that does not meet our weapons policy should be stowed in a car or hotel room away from convention spaces.
