Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Rosary for Life Our Lady of Perpetual Help Novena to St. Joseph THE PASTOR’S CORNER In an attempt to support the commitment to be transparent about “On Mission for the Church Alive.” I will be covering throughout the various aspects to keep you well informed as to the direction that the entire diocese will be taking. A special home delivery of the Pittsburgh Catholic will be providing the names of the Steering Committee members, the On Mission Commission and the parish team leaders from all of our 200 parishes. Each pastor was asked to recommend parishioners to serve as members of the Parish On Mission Team. Collaborating with the Pastor and councils of the parish, the Parish On Mission Team will serve as the primary Ambassadors of the On Mission for The Church Alive! The ambassadors responsibility is to pass on the Planning Initiative to their fellow parishioners as well as to be the primary representatives of the parish to the On Mission Commission. There are five parishioners who I have recommended and have been approved for Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish Team. They are: Verne Bergstrom, Jonathan Love, Lawrence Mialki, Jane Ann Posney and David Wygonik. There are four parishioners who I have recommended and have been approved for St. Joseph Parish, Natrona. They are: Jacob Heasley, Justine Long-Meyers, David Pawlak and Donald Turowski. This was a difficult process for me since each pastor was given criteria which was to assist in making a selection. One criteria was called MINDSET. This referred to individuals who were prayerful, faithful, creative (able to think outside the box (without agenda) and open to new possibilities), collaborative and respectful in dialogue and communication. SKILLSET was another criteria. This referred to individuals who have expertise in various professions. The third criteria was ROLE. This refers to individuals who are registered parishioners, represent various ministries, represent demographic groups in the parish, etc. Obviously, there are many others who would have fit the criteria, but I had to discern who would best represent what the Parish Mission Team will be charged to do. Also, time restrains were also an important factor since there will be many mandatory sessions, consultations and whole parish meetings over the next year. That’s enough for now. I will continue to update you as information is provided. And by the way, how about saying “Thank You” personally to the “nine” who will be representing you. They will be looking forward to your feedback throughout the process. God Bless. Fr. Jim All bulletin announcements must be received by Monday at 9 am in written form or e-mail. A special THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped to make “Road to Resurrection” a success. Special thanks to Michelle McSparrin, Jolynn Young and Dave Wygonik for helping to plan the walk through Holy Week. On Mission for the Church Alive! A vital part of our diocese is the Secretariat for Leadership Development. It exists to form clergy and laity to effectively serve the Church of Pittsburgh as leaders. The goal is to develop a model of servant leadership where clergy and laity use their individual gifts and talents to collaborate on ways to achieve Bishop Zubik’s vision of the Church Alive! Every parish needs resourceful, competent and confident leaders. Pray about what you can do to call forward such leaders. Or to be one.
