Boarding at ACS
Experience the difference
A home away
from home
ACS Cobham's boarding house is Europe's premier school residency offering both the
prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and US College Board Advanced
Placement (AP) courses. Located at the heart of our magnificent 128-acre Surrey campus,
and only 30 minutes from one of the world’s great capitals, London, our secure separate
wing accommodation is home to boys and girls aged 12 to 18.
Every ACS boarding student is assigned a
resident teacher/supervisor who will
promote their independent learning skills,
monitor and guide each student’s academic
progress, and deal promptly and
sympathetically with any personal situation
that may arise. There are also school
Counsellors and a campus Nurse, plus six
resident House Parents, including the Head
of Boarding, Ryn Brandse, and his wife Ann.
Outstanding facilities
Head of Boarding Ryn Brandse, and his wife Ann,

Success through teamwork
As part of an increasingly mobile world
society, the ACS boarding house has
established itself as a genuine champion of
internationalism, with students
representing more than 30 nationalities.
We are proud of our multicultural identity,
and celebrate the things that make us
different as an integral part of boarding life.
All our students are aware that they are
respected as individuals, and our staff
actively support their personal, social and
educational development into responsible
global citizens.
The boarding house has separate wing
accommodation for boys and girls. All
student rooms are ergonomically designed
for two, with an en-suite bathroom,
telephone and individual study desks with
wireless internet access throughout the
building. All students have use of the
community lounges, games rooms, a
boarders’ dining hall for breakfast and
dinner, and four student kitchenettes.
At lunch students use the school’s main
Food Court complex which serves a healthy
and nutritionally balanced diet that fully
embraces the international diversity
of our student body.
Exceptional campus recreational facilities
include soccer and rugby fields, softball and
baseball diamonds, an all-weather Olympicsized athletics track, six tennis courts, and a
six-hole golf course. In addition, boarders
also have use of our state-of-the-art Sports
Centre complete with an international
arena for basketball and volleyball,
gymnasium, a 25-metre competition-class
swimming pool, fitness suite with weighttraining, dance & aerobics studio, a sports
merchandise shop, and a cafeteria.
The academic programme
With 30 years’ experience delivering
outstanding IB and AP exam results, ACS
has established a tradition of securing its
graduates places at the finest universities
around the world, including Oxford,
Cambridge, the London School of
Economics, Imperial, Harvard, Yale, MIT,
Stanford, Delft, Keio and McGill.

The Boarding House Philosophy
ACS strives to meet the needs of each boarder by:
• Encouraging students to understand and appreciate that "Our true nationality is mankind".
HG Wells
• Encouraging students to accept the personal responsibility that comes with personal freedom
• Helping each student to realise his or her full worth and potential by maintaining
high expectations
• Communicating with parents in order to encourage their support and involvement
• Maintaining and encouraging highly qualified and experienced support staff, prepared to
meet the needs of the students.
Every ACS boarder embarks on a wondrous voyage of discovery. Many friendships made here will
endure a lifetime – all will widen a student’s understanding and appreciation of world cultures
and customs. This is a special experience, and the more a student puts into the programme, the
more he or she will gain from it.
We take great pride in who we are and what we do, and look forward to welcoming you into
our community in the near future.
