STEPHANIE AUSTIN
“My education in holistic
health has given me a
tremendous opportunity
to empower people to
overcome challenges that
may seem hopeless or
debilitating. I am honored
to be using my education
and passion for holistic
healing to help people
throughout their journey

Stephanie Austin, HHP
HHP Graduate
Templeton, CA
2009
Stephanie Austin earned a Diploma in Holistic
Health Practice (HHP) at American College
of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) after she was
guided into holistic living following a diagnosis of
Dermatomyositis, an uncommon autoimmune
disease affecting the skin and muscles.
Stephanie graduated from ACHS with a 3.97 GPA,
balancing her passion for holistic health and wellness with the demands
of life outside academia as an adult learner pursuing a credential through
distance education. Since her enrollment and successful completion of
her HHP, Stephanie has released more than 60 pounds and conquered
years of junk food addiction through holistic healing and nutrition
techniques – the same techniques she now uses to inspire and empower
others through her business, Wellness by Mother Nature. Stephanie has
been the Director of Education and Board Member for the nonprofit
organization, The Wellness Kitchen and is an author, coach, and speaker
who works to empower and educate others about the healing value of
nutrition and the innate self-healing abilities of a body in balance.
As a holistic health practitioner, Stephanie has helped people achieve balance
through methods such as meditation, herbs, movement, supplements,
aromatherapy, homeopathy, nutrition, mind-body connection, energy
healing, and by closely listening to the needs of her clients.

Career change, evolving industries, job and regulatory requirements challenge us
all to increase our skills and capacities throughout our lives. Personal or family health
challenges or a new role as a family caregiver can also lead us to seek additional
training in the healthcare field.
“I’m really enjoying my

recommended ACHS to
some friends because
so far my experience
has been great.
Thanks for letting me
know about the kits,
I already bought them
a few months ago and I
also bought some extra
things to practice what
I’m learning right now.
I think it’s great that
we can purchase more

GRADUATE PROFILE
MEET AN ACHS GRADUATE
Lora Cantele, RA, CMAIA, CSRT
Lora is a Clinical Aromatherapist, Swiss Reflex Therapist/
Instructor, aromatherapy educator, consultant, writer/publisher.
As a clinical aromatherapist, Lora worked in both private
practice and in pediatric hospice and palliative care. She was part
of a team that developed a pilot program that included the use of
aromatherapy for children with life-limiting illnesses, a favored
topic as an international speaker as she hopes to inspire others to
replicate this successful program. A former tutor for the Penny Price Academy (UK),
she had a satellite school in Chicago. She continues to teach Swiss Reflex Therapy for
Shirley Price in Boulder, CO.
As a former president of the Alliance of International Aromatherapists, Lora worked
to improve the standards of aromatherapy education and foster aromatherapy
education through the programming of international conferences and cooperative
alliances with other aromatherapy organizations around the world. Her work to
provide the professional holistic practitioner with useful information and resources
to enhance their practice and expand their “toolbox” is evidenced by her continued
support of aromatherapy education through The International Journal of Professional
Holistic Aromatherapy (IJPHA) in which she is the editor and publisher.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AROMATHERAPY
™
The mission of the MS in Aromatherapy degree program is to develop a practical
and theoretical understanding of clinical aromatherapy and professionally apply this
knowledge to educate clients and consumers about a mind-body-spirit approach to
health and wellness.
The use of aromatherapy as a viable integrative holistic health modality in hospitals and
in many aspects of the wellness industry has shown a progressive upward trend for a
number of years. Non-profit organizations such as Planetree Hospitals Inc. are a group
of US hospitals who are aware that the way a patient feels has an enormous impact on
the speed and success of recovery. Planetree hospitals have adopted the holistic patient
care model, which integrates complimentary therapies with conventional medical
treatment on mental, emotional, spiritual, social and physical levels and aromatherapy
is a large part of this model.1

requirements for approval as a Registered Aromatherapist (RA)2 and to enter the health

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPLEMENTARY
ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE
™
Consumer use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) continues
to increase, fueled by a number of factors, including increasing research of efficacy,
dissatisfaction with allopathic models (particularly for chronic health problems), and
an aging population.
The challenge to the industry will be to integrate CAM to most benefit the consumer,
focusing on the complementary rather than the alternative nature of the wide variety
of modalities available and leading the way forward to a wellness based concept of
healthcare.
Those who would play a part in leading the industry to successful integration must be
able to facilitate change in a holistic and encompassing manner in the context of rapid
change in the health care industry.

RECIPES
Many herbs can be easily prepared as teas.
Basic Recipe
1-t herb
1-cup purified or filtered water
Directions
Place your herbs into a ceramic or glass teapot.
Bring the water to a boil. Do not use an aluminum pot.
Turn off the heat and pour the water over the herb.
Cover the pot and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes.
Strain the tea in a non-aluminum strainer and then drink.
Use immediately: Do not store.
Honey, lemon, or milk can be added, although milk tends to mask the
delicate flavors. Do not use honey with infants under one year as there have
been reports of botulism spores in honey and this can be fatal in infants.
Keep all herbal preparations out of the reach of children. Check herb contraindications before
preparing herbs as teas or infusions.

Holistic nutrition is the foundation to any holistic health lifestyle plan for optimal
health. The United States healthcare system has shifted its emphasis to prevention
in an effort to reduce healthcare costs and service a society that is both growing and
living longer. With the passing of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in late 2010 by the
US Government there is even more focus on prevention and wellness. The National
Prevention Strategy (NPS) was released June 16, 2011, as part of the ACA. The NPS
launched a comprehensive plan that will help increase the number of Americans who
are healthy at every stage of life. Nutrition and healthy eating are one of the seven
primary priorities outlined in the detailed NPS strategy.1

Aromatic Room or Body Spray RECIPES
The first step is to prepare your aroma concentrate
(essential oil blend). Then, add 10 drops of your blend
to 2 teaspoons of alcohol, Everclear, or vodka. Blend together in a bottle
and shake. Great for freshening potpourri, diffusing throughout your home,
or using as a body spray.
To Make a 2 oz Room or Body Spray
Mix 60 drops of your aroma concentrate with 2 ounces of distilled water or
witch hazel hydrosol. Shake well. Spray upward into the air and walk underneath. If the aroma is not strong enough, add more concentrate in 5-drop
increments and test again.
