Class Cancellation & Program Credit Policy If the YMCA cancels a class, members are entitled to a full refund or YMCA credit. Classes cancelled due to unexpected weather events are not eligible for credit or refund. Any credits must be approved by the program director. Classes missed by participants due to personal reasons will not be credited or refunded unless accompanied by a doctor’s note within the same session. Classes cancelled by a member before the first class will result in a system credit. (minimum 24 hours prior) After the first class but before second class, a 50% system credit will be issued. We encourage you to contact one of our specially trained Member Navigators to set up an appointment today. military outreach initiative YMCA of the USA, the Armed Services YMCA and the Department of Defense have launched the YMCA Military Outreach Initiative to address the needs of families of deployed military personnel who live far from a military installation and require access to child development, family strengthening, and health and well-being programming. This initiative offers YMCA memberships to eligible military families and personnel who may not have access to a nearby military facility. Please contact any Membership staff for eligibility information. The Kent County YMCA has been offering Y’s Owl Nursery School to children ages 3-5 in the Kent County community for over fifty years. The program is state licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families. Our program offers your child a warm, supportive environment that fosters the development of healthy self-esteem and encourages personal growth. Your child will enjoy a variety of mind-enriching activities that encourage creativity and individuality. Your child will be guided and cared for by teachers selected for their training, certification, experience and remarkable sensitivity to the needs of preschoolers. Open to students in morning and afternoon kindergarten, the program will provide daily opportunities for exploration, creativity and selfexpression. A weekly swim lesson and physical education class are included for full-time PM participants. Children attending Coventry and Warwick public schools will be transported to the YMCA for no additional fee. The class offers skill instruction, focusing on stroke drills and improving technique. Swimmers should have completed Fish level or higher and have basic techniques in the four competitive strokes. Our trained instructors will individualize the class to meet your personal needs. Our coaches guide each session providing fun instruction, encouragement, and fun all around. This specific program will focus on the fundamentals of several popular sports including track/field, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, t-ball, lacrosse, tennis, and golf. WEDNESDAY 4:15-5:00 PM PARENT CHILD BASKETBALL (AGES 3 & 4) Main Sports Gymnasium This program is designed to instill athletic confidence and sports skills in young children with the involvement of parents. Our coaches guide each session providing fun instruction, encouragement, and fun all around. This specific program will focus on dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. preschool $65 member/$105 community member OBSTACLE COURSE FOR PRESCHOOLERS (AGES 3-5) Main Sports Gymnasium In this class our instructor will set up a course that requires several physical activities like walking, climbing, crawling and maintaining balance. Children cross all of these obstacles to reach the end of the course. The game is not about the end result, but about the fun of facing and conquering the obstacle course. For preschool children, encountering obstacles is fun because they are developing physical skills at this age. The obstacle course gives them an opportunity to test new skills and understand more about their physical abilities. Your child will learn the basic skills in many popular sports including basketball, baseball, t-ball, floor hockey, soccer, lacrosse and track/field while focusing on the importance of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. WEDNESDAY 5:00-5:30 PM youth instruction $65 member/$105 community member YOUTH INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD (AGES 5-12) Main Sports Gymnasium Athletes will learn the basics of several different track and field activities including running, sprinting, hurdles, and relays. Instruction is provided by certified running coach Lauren Leslie. TUESDAY 5:00-5:45 PM KID FUN FIT (AGES 6-12) Main Sports Gymnasium Healthy lifestyles are not just for adults— they start in our childhood. This class features combinations of movements that teach children about the benefits of Cardiovascular Health, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, Agility, and much more. Sock are available for purchase at the Welcome Center. Children may be checked into Kids Care for no more than 2 hours per morning and 2 hours per evening. Kids Care requires parent/guardian to change their child’s diaper when necessary. When signing into Kids Care both the adult and child(ren) will be required to wear an ID bracelet provided by the staff. LIVING WELL RHODE ISLAND FREE A chronic disease self-management workshop designed to teach people ways to manage symptoms and medications, communicate with family and doctors, handle difficult emotions, relax, eat well, exercise and set weekly goals to improve health and lifestyle. Group sessions are 2½ hours per week for 6 weeks and are open to anyone 18 years of age or older with a chronic condition or a caregiver of anyone with a chronic condition. (Examples: but not limited to Asthma, Arthritis, Cancer, COPD, Diabetes and Heart Disease) YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM (YDPP) A program designed specifically for adults who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes and/or have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. The program helps participants adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles. Sessions are held in a classroom setting and facilitated by a trained lifestyle coach. The program has two phases – the first consists of weekly one-hour sessions for 16 weeks followed by 8 monthly classes.
