Offering advanced diagnostic imaging services including MRI, ultrasound, bone density, X-ray, mammography, computed tomography and nuclear medicine. Diagnostic Imaging Services COMPUTERIZED TOMOGRAPHY (CT) Computerized tomography (CT) combines a series of X-ray views taken from many different angles and computer processing to create cross-sectional images of the bones and soft tissues inside your body. CT scan images can provide much more information than conventional X-rays. MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field and radio waves along with specialized computers to produce high quality, detailed images of the body. A mammogram is an X-ray image of your breast used to screen for breast cancer. Mammograms play a key role in early breast cancer detection and help decrease breast cancer deaths. A mammogram can be used either for screening or for diagnostic purposes. WMMC performs mammography exams on a Siemens Novation full-field digital machine. WMMC’s Mammography Department is fully accredited with the American College of Radiology and follows all of the regulations outlined by the Mammography Quality Standards Act. A physician order is not required for screening mammograms. So, call to make your appointment today! The patient-friendly, open design accommodates different size patients and helps reduce anxiety and claustrophobia. DEXA-BONE DENSITY A DEXA scan is a non-invasive test that uses a low dose of X-rays to detect the amount of calcium and other minerals in your bones. A DEXA scan provides an accurate assessment of your risk of breaking a bone and allows your physician to take action before a fracture occurs. Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) performs CTs using the Siemens Somatom Definition AS (128-slice CT Scanner). The 128–slice detector means that an entire body scan can be performed from head to toe in just 10 seconds. It also generates 4D images, offering clearer results and may potentially eliminate follow-up visits. The large gantry opening and high capacity table allow for all body sizes. MAMMOGRAPHY WMMC performs MRI using the Siemens Magnetom Verio 3T, which has a magnet that is four times the strength of any magnet in our region. Our 3T MRI’s spacious, open design enables patients of all sizes to be comfortable without feeling claustrophobic. ULTRASOUND Diagnostic ultrasound, also called sonography, is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce relatively precise images of structures within your body. The images produced during an ultrasound examination often provide valuable information for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and conditions.
