Watson Quality Ford is one of the original sponsors of the Mississippi Classic Cruisers dating back to 2004. A lot of our members have been buying cars and trucks from Watson for many years and all give them high marks for quality and service. If you are looking to buy a new or used vehicle in the future, be sure to visit Watson Quality Ford off I-55 in North Jackson. If you haven't been by the dealership lately you will see that the front of their showroom recently underwent a beautiful face lift. The ultra modern design looks great. Also, for you muscle car lovers they have a nice inventory of new Mustangs including a red & black 2011 Shelby GT500 and a gray & blue 2009 Shelby GT500KR. For your next new or used car or truck be sure to stop by Watson Quality Ford and tell 'em you are a Mississippi Classic Cruiser! Pictured is the front of Watson Quality Ford's show room off I-55 in North Jackson that recently underwent a beautiful facelift. This beautiful 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is looking for new home. Be sure to stop by Watson Quality Ford for your next new or used vehicle! MCC sponsor Venable Glass provides our members with two great locations to buy glass for their classic cars & family vehicles as well as for home and business. With 22 experienced employees, a location on Highway 51 in Ridgeland and a second on Woodgate Drive in Brandon, our members have two convenient locations for their glass needs. Owner Roger Venable advises that he can supply glass for just about any classic car or truck and can custom cut glass for your hot rod as well. He can also provide glass for your home including mirrors, shower doors and table tops. Best of all Roger is a “car guy” and owns a pro-street ‟68 Chevy Camaro with a 502 crate motor. Be sure to call Roger at 601-605-4443 or visit his web site at http://www.venableglass.com for all your glass needs. Be sure to let „em know that you are a Mississippi Classic Cruiser! Photos taken at the June 12 cruise-in at Renaissance at Colony Park in Ridgeland! MCC Member Charlie Harrison from Lauderdale, MS drives at Talladega! On Friday, June 11th, we left the Meridian area for a trip to the Spring Classic Car Show at the Talladega Superspeedway. All pre-registered vehicles were allowed to make two 'paced' laps around the track, (don't be deceived by the word 'paced'). Our group included Butch Burks (66 Nova), Tommy Marshall (57 Chevy), Billy Williamson (39 Chevy), and my 47 Studebaker pickup. We had others who arrived on Saturday. When we arrived Friday afternoon we were allowed to unload everything, (canopies, lawn chairs, fans, generator, etc.) and set up for the Saturday show. Saturday morning we uncovered our vehicles and prepared for our turn around the track. Each vehicle had a picture taken prior to driving around the track. It was a great experience and we all plan to return for the next event. What Could Have Been from Ford & Chevrolet back in the day…. The “Truckstang” is owned by MCC member Marcus Ellis, Jr. of Walnut Grove, MS. It started life as a 1990 Ford Mustang LX Sedan. The concept was based loosely upon the Ford Ranchero idea, and was a concept vehicle to be proposed to Ford Motor Company. Ford recognized the concept as “interesting” but of limited commercial value. After failing to obtain Ford‟s interest, the idea was to develop a fiberglass “tub” that could be used on any Mustang, to make it into a utility truck. FoMoCo was interested in the vehicle only as a novelty and the copyright / patent infringement concerns prevented any further development of that concept. Hence, the “Truckstang” remains a one-off design that has never been copied. Let‟s hope Marcus will bring this beautiful “Truckstang” to the Scarecrow event in October. It would certainly be a contender for the “Most Unique Vehicle Award!” MCC Member / Sponsor Henry Adams of Jackson is the owner of the one-off 1957 Chevy Bel Air El Camino convertible. The car was customized in California. The man built two of them from a 210 series station wagon, the other one has not been found to date. It has an oak bed, 9" Ford rear end, 396 engine with 400 turbo, custom gauges, four wheel disk brakes, convertible top and Bel Air was air brushed on quarter trim panels. Let's hope that this unique vehicle will also find its way to the Scarecrow event in October! MCC’s 7th Annual Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show will soon be here! Planning for this two day event (October 22-23, 2010) has already started and looks to be the biggest and best ever! If you would like to be a volunteer or sponsor at this year's event contact MCC members Tom Phillips at 601-259-5248 or TomP1951@aol.com or Mike Martin at 601-906-1196 or mikeamartin02349@aol.com. "Remember me? Me and my sweet 1970 Plymouth Superbird won the Most Handsome and Top Car Awards at the 2009 Scarecrow event. Lady Scarecrow hopes to unseat me at the 2010 event. What she doesn't know is that I have been working out and I'm even more handsome than before. No doubt I'll get the ladies' votes. Be sure to vote for me in October!" Mr. Scarecrow "Mr. Scarecrow thinks he is going to take home some awards at the 2010 Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show. What he doesn't know is that I will be entering my new street rod in the 2010 event. I'll also be spending the summer in a local clinic for a little nip and tuck that will make me absolutely stunning." Lady Scarecrow We are pleased to advise that BankPlus is coming back as the title sponsor for the 2010 Scarecrow event! BankPlus is a great supporter of community events and we are extremely proud of our association with this fine company. THANK YOU BankPlus for your ongoing support! We are also pleased to advise that SIDS will be joining us once again for the 7th Annual Scarecrow event on October 22-23 in Madison with their Shopping For SIDS. Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show Updates Continued….. Also, for the first time, Hope Hollow will be joining this year's event with a huge silent auction. Some of the unbelievable silent auction items collected thus far include several trips including a one week trip to Italy's Tuscany Valley staying in a home, 2 trips (one week each) on an African Safari and a one week trip to Hilton Head staying in a condo. These are just a few of the many silent auction items that will be up for auction at the Scarecrow event in October. Hope Hollow is a camp for children with disabilities located on Catlett Road between Madison and Canton. To learn more about Hope Hollow visit www.hopehollowms.org. The 2010 event will be at the same location as last year, the corner of Main Street and Highway 51 in Madison that is now the new home of Tulane University's Madison Campus. With the addition of Tulane brings a new parking lot that will add 70 new paved parking spaces right in the center of all the activity for the car guys! Pictured is Sherry Chance, Director of Tulane's Madison Campus looking at past Scarecrow posters. A big thank you is in order for Sherry as she was kind enough to move Tulane's fall break back one week so that we could have uninterrupted access to the new parking lot.
