Message from the Mayor
Another Sharonville summer has come to a close. Festivals of Sharonville threw
a grand “party with a purpose” raising thousands of dollars for local non-profit
organizations. The Sharonville Cultural Arts Center filled their theatre with
activities for the whole family. Our Parks & Recreation Department made sure you
had a cool pool to dip into on a hot summer day. Our new Gower Park shelters
welcomed residents and guests for their summertime picnics and celebrations. The
Sharonville Youth Organization filled our baseball and softball fields with young
people learning the game. Road crews surrounded Sharonville replacing and
repairing curbs, sidewalks and streets. Police and fire personnel insured your safety
while enjoying community events like St. Michael’s annual community festival,
Fourth-on-the-Loop and Touch-a-Truck. Our new city partner, Hamilton County
Public Health, inspected all our city’s outdoor pools and made sure Sharonville
food handlers (from the temporary to permanent) followed food safety procedures. I hope that you have found these
and the many other services and opportunities your city, the city’s partners, businesses and non-profit groups provide
exceeded your expectations.
The start of a new season ushers in a whole new set of activity for Sharonville. This Hometown Guide is produced to
share with you those many available opportunities for you, your families and your businesses. Festivals of Sharonville
is branching out to offer a new event this fall at the Community Center’s Upper Grove. Kemper Field is filling up with
eager kids kicking soccer balls. As our schools fill with children, Sharonville’s R(esident) A(ssistance) I(ntervention)
N(urse) Jennifer Ely will be assisting with school nurse’s needs and local school health screenings. Hamilton County
Public Health will be in town to provide flu shot clinics. People from across the region will be flooding our Convention
Center, hotels and restaurants for their fall get-togethers. Candidates will be popping up with signs and leaflets to seek
your support at the polling booths set up throughout the City in early November. There should be something in these
next few pages to peek your interest and/or information to help you know your City better. I invite you to share your
thoughts with me or any of your elected officials or City employees. I Sharonville isn’t just a slogan for a t-shirt. It is
something the city’s employees, elected officials and I want you to feel about this community. Best wishes to you for a
fantastic fall here in the City of Sharonville.

in the community who go “above and beyond.” The “Good Neighbor Award” seeks
to identify and honor those people who embody the spirit of neighbors helping
neighbors. This program strives to recognize those who are making a difference in
our community and who do not typically seek or receive recognition for their efforts.
Nominees must reside or work in the City of Sharonville. More information, including

TAX
DEPARTMENT
The City of Sharonville Tax Office staff will be happy to
provide assistance. If you are in need of forms or have any
questions regarding current year estimated payments, the filing
of the annual City of Sharonville income tax return, prior year
return(s) or employee withholding, please feel free to call or
visit the Tax Office. Forms, including fill-in forms that assist in
calculating the tax for you, are available on the Sharonville website
at www.sharonville.org. The office is open Monday through Friday
from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. While no appointment is necessary,
tax return preparation assistance will only be provided until 4:30
p.m. The location and mailing address of the Sharonville Tax
Office is 11641 Chester Road, Sharonville, OH 45246. A drop box
is also available for your convenience.
Tax payments may be made through Official Payments
either online or by phone at 1-800-487-4567. Official
Payments does charge a nominal fee for this service which
may be calculated using the fee calculator available. The City of
Sharonville Tax Office continues to accept payments in person
and by mail to provide taxpayers with cost effective tax payment
options.
Declaration of Estimated Taxes:
• The remaining quarterly payments are due by October 31 and
January 31 for individual taxpayers or the 15th day of the 6th,
9th and 12th months after the beginning of the taxable year for
business taxpayers.
• Estimated tax payments are required and penalties are
assessed for insufficient declaration payments.
Note: If at least 90% of a taxpayer’s tax liability is not paid by the
4th quarter due date, the difference between 90% of the tax liability
and the amount of estimated tax paid on or before the 4th quarter
due date shall be subject to the interest and penalty provisions of
Section 171.10 of the City of Sharonville Income Tax Ordinance.

The collections of property taxes (whether it is for residential
property or business property) are the responsibility of
Hamilton County or Butler County. The City of Sharonville
does not receive property tax dollars from city residents
or businesses, and is proud that a municipal property tax
has not been levied in over 30 years.

PUBLIC WORKS
Reminders
The City’s Truck Loan Program for 2015 ends on October 30th. This
program helps residents keep their property clean and gives them
the ability to dispose of unwanted items from their property. Please
call 563-1177 for information or to reserve a truck. There is a nominal
fee for the use of the truck.
Curbside Brush and Special Pickup is a year round program unless
it is snowing and we are treating the roads. Residents must call the
Public Works office at 563-1177 before noon on Friday to have their
name put on a list in order to have their items picked up the following
week. Have the materials out for removal on Sunday evening of the
requested service week. Public Works will come to your address one
day of the service week to remove the materials. Twigs cannot be
picked up; they are yard waste and must be disposed of with your
regular trash collection.
Disposal of refrigerators, freezers and other appliances that
contain chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerants must have the
CFC removed from the appliance by a Certified Technician and have
documentation attached to the appliance verifying that the CFC has
been safely removed. Rumpke will then pick up the appliance on your
normal trash pickup day.
Disposal of computers, televisions, fluorescent bulbs and
hazardous waste cannot be placed at the curb for Rumpke trash
collection. The Hamilton County and Butler County Recycling and
Solid Waste Districts can help you with disposal of electronic and
hazardous waste items for homeowners ONLY. Fluorescent bulbs
can be taken to hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menard’s) for
proper disposal. For more information on Recycling and the disposing

Fall Season
There is no leaf pick up program in the City of Sharonville – raking
leaves into the street gutters is not permitted.
Raking leaves into the gutter will cause catch basins to back up and
flood streets. Please rake and bag leaves for pick up and disposal
with Rumpke on your trash days. (Remember Rumpke has a 10 item
limit)
If you have a storm culvert that runs along your property line or
under your driveway, please remember that it is the homeowner’s
responsibility to keep these culverts and the inlets clear of leaves and
debris. Clogged culverts affect drainage upstream and flooding on
roadways and surrounding areas.
Winter Season
Winter snow and ice will be here soon. There are a few guidelines
that residents can follow that will help our department maintain our
roads in the best condition possible:
• During a snowstorm, please do NOT park vehicles on the street,
if possible.
• The Public Works crew has very limited time to remove the
snow in a major snowstorm and cars parked on the street create
additional obstacles and restrict visibility. Parking your vehicle
in your driveway allows for a more complete clearing of your
street. Wherever practical, we will attempt to keep the snow
build-up to a minimum. Unfortunately, due to limitations of time
and manpower, we will not be able to remove plowed snow from
in front of driveways. Ultimately, this is the responsibility of the
homeowner. Please shovel snow responsibly, by not shoveling
your snow into the roadway.
• Older residents and those with health problems are reminded
to avoid the extreme physical activity associated with shoveling
snow.
• Stay at least two car lengths behind a snow plow for every 10
mph you are traveling. Never cut in between a caravan of plows
clearing a road.
• Beware of “black ice” (roads that look wet but actually are glazed
with ice). Ramps and bridges freeze first.
As a result of winter snow, ice and salt comes the inevitable
appearance of potholes and other unsafe conditions. Please notify
Public Works of any curb, street, sidewalk or storm drainage problems
in the City. The Public Works Department will attempt to correct the
safety problems in a timely manner.
Golden View Acres
Golden View Acres is a Senior Citizen Retirement Village. This
52 unit apartment complex is located on Greensfelder Lane off
Thornview Drive.
In order to be eligible for tenancy, a person must be at least 57 years
of age and a Sharonville resident for at least one year; or be a parent,
grandparent, brother or sister of a Sharonville resident who has
resided in the City for one year.
Golden View Acres has both first and second floor units and one and
two bedroom apartments. Each apartment has an equipped kitchen
with stove and refrigerator, gas heat, hot water, and air conditioning.
Tenants pay their own utilities except water. There are coin operated
laundry facilities in each of the three buildings. When renting an
apartment an initial security deposit equaling one month’s rent is
required. After signing the lease, THE RENT WILL NOT BE RAISED
unless an additional tenant occupies the same apartment or the
current tenant moves to another apartment in the complex. At that
time, a new rental agreement is required to be signed at the current
rate.
To be placed on a WAITING LIST to rent an apartment, written
application must be made and a $50 fee deposited. This fee is
refundable when you rent an apartment or request, in writing, to be
removed from the Waiting List.

Crime Mapping - RAIDS Online
Last summer, the Sharonville Police Department introduced an online crime mapping program to visualize crime data for the
public in an ongoing effort to strengthen community and law enforcement ties. We have received a lot of positive feedback
and will continue with this transparency; however, we have changed service providers and are now using BAIR Analytics
RAIDS Online. Although crime mapping programs are free for the public to use, the optional law enforcement analytical function
requires the police department to pay an annual fee. Like any good consumer, we are constantly looking for the best option that
fits our needs and budget.
Crime analysis works best with data from surrounding communities. We decided to switch to BAIR Analytics RAIDS Online
because it is a regional crime analysis and data sharing program allowing us to use information from neighboring communities
to determine crime series and patterns, which we could not do with the previous service provider. RAIDS Online is the crime
mapping component that allows the public to view reported criminal activity.
For those who are familiar with our previous crime mapping program, RAIDS Online is very similar to use. For those who are not
familiar, it’s really very simple. The map can be viewed from the city’s website at www.sharonville.org , www.raidsonline.com or
download the RAIDS Online app for your smart phone or tablet. You can sign up to receive crime alerts to your email by clicking
the “sign up for crime alerts” button; you determine how often and when you receive the alerts. If you have questions on how
to use the map, there is a help button that provides tutorials for all the different features. If you have any questions about the

Catalytic Converter Theft
All vehicles manufactured after 1974 must have a catalytic converter as part of the exhaust system. It is an emissions-control
device that contains precious metals that act as catalysts. The catalytic converter renders toxic gases into less harmful emissions.
Catalytic converters, along with copper and other metals, continue to be a hot commodity for thieves. Catalytic converter theft
has become popular because of their value, relative ease to steal, and their lack of identifying markings. The lack of identification
makes it difficult to identify victims and to successfully apprehend and prosecute criminals.
Thieves look for vehicles parked for prolonged periods of time in large lots, such as shopping centers, mass transit commuter
lots or company parking lots. Converter thefts can also occur in your driveway or on the street in front of your house. Trucks,
pick-ups and SUVs are particularly vulnerable to catalytic converter theft because thieves can slide underneath without having
to jack up the vehicle to gain access to the converter. With just a few cuts of a battery-powered saw, the converter can be stolen
in less than a minute.
Please report any suspicious activity you may observe. These thefts occur at all hours of the day and any day of the week.
Here are some tips to help prevent catalytic converter theft:
•
Always park in well-lit areas;
•
At shopping centers and other similar parking lots, park close to the entrance
of the building or near the access road where there’s a lot of traffic;
Engrave your license plate number on the converter to make it traceable;
•
•
Check out different types of catalytic converter theft deterrent systems
at your local auto parts store, online or your local muffler shop.

Ohio’s School Bus Law
It’s that time of year when the big yellow school buses are back on the road. School
buses and motorists have been a part of the morning and afternoon landscape for
five generations. School buses have been around since 1915; and since then,
there has been an uneasy co-existence between the school bus and the motorist.
For some, that uneasy co-existence is a result of not knowing when to stop for a
school bus or when it is ok to continue past. Hopefully the information below will
help clarify the Ohio school bus law to create a more peaceful co-existence and
keep our school aged children safer!
Scenario 1 – You are traveling on a two- or three-lane road
•
Approaching the bus from the rear: When you see flashing red or
amber warning lights, you are not permitted to pass the school bus and should be
prepared to stop. Stop behind the school bus when the school bus stops and the stop arm is extended. Stop no closer than 10
feet from the rear of the bus, and remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted and school bus starts moving again. Proceed
with caution.
•
Meeting the bus from the front: When you see amber warning lights flashing you must slow your vehicle and be
prepared to stop when the lights turn red. Stop no closer than 10 feet in front of the school bus when the school bus stops and
its stop arm is extended. Remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted. Proceed with caution.
Scenario 2 – You are traveling on a road with two or more lanes in each direction
•
Approaching the bus from the rear: When approaching from the rear, the rules are the same as for a two- or threelane road. When you see flashing red or amber warning lights, you are not permitted to pass the school bus and should be
prepared to stop. Stop behind the school bus when the school bus stops and its stop arm is extended. Stop no closer than 10
feet from the rear of the bus, and remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted and school bus starts moving again. Proceed
with caution.
•
Meeting the bus from the front: When meeting the bus in one of the opposite two lanes (or more), you do not need to
stop, even if the bus has stopped with lights flashing and stop arm out. The bus is not permitted to load or unload children who
must cross this type of roadway, unless there are official traffic control devices or law enforcement present. This is the only time
you may pass a school bus that is stopped and has its stop arm extended.

National Fire Prevention Week
Keep your family safe with a working smoke alarm in every bedroom. - Did you know that roughly half of home fire
deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when most people are asleep?
Smoke alarms save lives. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time
to get out. In fact, having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half!

Mammograms on the Go are
Coming to Sharonville!
Getting your mammogram just got easier. October
is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the mobile
mammography coach from Premier Health and Atrium
Medical Center will be in Sharonville. The Sharonville Fire
Department is excited to work with Premier Health to bring
the Mobile Screening Mammogram Coach to the residents
of Sharonville. If you haven’t had your mammogram in
the last 12 months, here’s your chance. You’ll experience the same quality, technology, and comfort that’s available
at Premier Health’s breast center. Images are reviewed by board-certified radiologists from Atrium Medical Center.
No doctor’s order is needed for a screening mammogram for women 40 and over. Please contact the R.A.I.N Nurse
Jennifer Ely at 563-1722 for any questions and to schedule an appointment. The Mobile Mammography Coach will be
visiting Sharonville on the following days:

Holiday Tips from the Fire Department
The kitchen is the heart of the home, especially at Thanksgiving. Kids love to be
involved in holiday preparations. Safety in the kitchen is important, especially on
Thanksgiving Day when there is a lot of activity and people at home. Don’t forget
these useful tips for your gathering:

Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stove top so you can keep an eye on the food.
Stay in the home when cooking your turkey and check on it frequently.
Keep children away from the stove. The stove will be hot and kids should stay 3 feet away.
Make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could
cause serious burns.
Keep the floor clear so you don’t trip over kids, toys, pocketbooks or bags.
Keep knives out of the reach of children.
Be sure electric cords from an electric knife, coffee maker, plate warmer or mixer are not dangling off the counter
within easy reach of a child.
Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children — up high in a locked cabinet.
Never leave children alone in room with a lit a candle.
Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Test them by pushing the test button.
Christmas Trees help to make your home a festive place. Remember these tree safety tips this holiday:

Choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched.
Before placing the tree in the stand, cut 2 inches from the base of the trunk.
Make sure the tree is at least 3 feet away from any heat source, like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights.
Make sure the tree is not blocking any exits from the home.
Add water to the tree stand daily.
Use lights that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory. Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use.
Replace any lights that have worn or broken cords and read the manufacturer’s instructions for how many strands
may be connected together.
Never use lit candles to decorate a tree of any kind live or artificial.
Always turn off the tree lights before leaving home or going to bed.

President Retiring
The Sharonville Chamber of Commerce announces the retirement of Rich Arnold,
President, effective on December 31, 2015.
Jamie Charlton, Chairman, Sharonville Chamber Board of Directors and President of
Saxon Financial said, “Rich’s passion, drive, and leadership have helped the Chamber
grow and prosper. When he started in 2007 the Chamber had 76 members and today
we have 311 members.”
Rich Arnold shared, “my wife and family have been after me for several years, asking me
to slow down a bit. I would also like to spend time traveling, visiting friends, and most
important of all, have more time with my family and our 5 grandchildren. Working with
this Chamber has been the highlight of my career.”
Rich further added, “During the past 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of coming to work
each day with a driving passion and desire to build an active and well respected
Chamber in our community. We have made great progress in serving the regional
business community, working closely with the City of Sharonville, offering a long list
of benefits, and many educational and cost saving opportunities. In addition we met
one of our long term goals which was to provide a professional office with a huge
conference/training room.”

Community Center Access Policy
Every person entering the Community Center must stop at the
Customer Service Desk to state his/her purpose of coming to the
Community Center. If you are a member, please make sure to
scan your membership card each time you enter the Community
Center and Pools. In order to be as safe as possible and pursuant
to City of Sharonville Ordinance Number 2014-13, ALL resident
and non-resident guests, ages 18 years of age and older,
purchasing a guest pass will be required to provide a valid driver’s
license or State ID Card. This card will be scanned by the “Safe
Point” System against the National Sex Offenders Registry.
The entire membership card data base is scanned through the
“Safe Point” system twice a year. New members and renewal
members joining the Community Center will be scanned before
membership cards are given to the members. Should your driver’s
license or State ID Card match a National or State Sexual Offender
Registry record or if you do not provide a valid driver’s license or
State ID card, you will not be permitted to enter the facility. There is
an appeal process.
Rental Opportunities
Sharonville Parks and Recreation has many rental opportunities for
your special occasions. Both residents and nonresidents may rent
the facilities. For more information, please call 563-2895 and ask
to speak with Kathy Wilkerson or Vickie Elsbrock. Anyone wishing
to schedule the facilities for rental will be expected to respect the
facilities at all times, and adhere to the scheduled hours and facility
usage guidelines.

Community Center Aerobics Room
Healthy U is for you if you live with long-term health
conditions like arthritis, diabetes, lung disease,
high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, anxiety or
depression. Healthy U is a FREE, six week, community based
workshop that helps members learn proven strategies to
manage chronic conditions. Workshops are conducted in your
community by two trained facilitators who have learned to take
control of their health and want to help others do the same.
They are held in six weekly, interactive, small-group sessions
that focus on ways to better manage your own conditions.

HOLIDAY HUSTLE SPIN
To Travel “Around the World”
Community Center Aerobics Room
Get into the holiday spirit by burning a ton of calories to fun
holiday music and give to a good cause! Participate in this
one day event and accumulate “miles” to reach your festive
destination, the north pole, via spin/cycle bike. In addition,
we encourage you to earn “miles” by bringing a donation of
hats &/or gloves (donations will be given to the Sharonville
Christmas fund). During the event, participants can cycle at
their own pace, under the guidance of the instructor and are
encouraged to make multiple donations in an effort to reach
the goal this holiday season- the north pole.

Yoga is a system of stretching, breathing, and relaxation

Morning Calm Martial Arts Academy is a traditional Martial
Arts (Tae Kwon Do) school focused on developing, in students

RESISTING MUSCLE LOSS
Community Center Aerobics Room
Resisting Muscle Loss is a strength-training program
designed for older adults. The exercises are performed
seated or standing, with added resistance through the use of
Therabands, hand weights, medicine balls, tubing, and step
benches. Major muscle groups of the upper body, core area,
and lower body are targeted for building overall strength while
improving your posture, balance, agility, and flexibility. *Each
session will last 4 weeks, always beginning on a Wednesday.

CHAIR VOLLEYBALL
Community Center Multipurpose Room
Entertaining and fun, it is also an unexpected way to work up
a sweat! Played on a 10-foot by 20-foot court that is divided
by a Wilson junior size volleyball net, players sit in 6 chairs on
each side of the court while keeping an inflatable beach ball
in play. The hardest part of the game is keeping your seat in
the seat. Laughter abounds as volleyball games are played
to 15 points or more. Come in and join us for fitness and fun.
Registration is not required, but we do ask that you sign in
each Friday that you join us for practice. Please consult with
your physician prior to participating in this activity.

Young Rembrandts provides an engaging, creative
environment where your child will learn how to draw and
strengthen his or her artistic skills. Our program prepares
children as learners so they will be successful in kindergarten.
As they learn to draw and color with our step-by-step method,

IMAGINATION YOGA
Community Center Craft Room
Imagination Yoga uses an original story to guide children
through a kid’s yoga class flying like birds, mooing like cows,
or shooting through space in a rocket ship. Each adventure
stimulates creativity and incorporates developmentally
appropriate kid’s yoga poses, calming and concentration
techniques and kindness exercises. Our program helps kids
get physical activity while having fun and integrating the
wonderful mind, body and heart benefits of yoga. Sessions
consist of curriculums. We will begin with the Kindness
curriculum which will not be a repeat of September’s session.
The November session will be Concentration. Children in the
Wednesday session must be potty-trained.

4 Kidz as they host a series of 2 hour building workshops
on days when the kids are off of school. Bricks 4 Kidz is
an enrichment program that teaches children concepts in
science, mechanics, and engineering using LEGO® bricks.
In each workshop, the kids will be introduced to new concepts
and then build models using bricks, gears, axles, motors and
more to illustrate the concept. Each workshop includes a
custom mini-figure that the kids will create, use during the
camp, and then take home! All workshops are unique, with all
new models and lessons each time. Your kids have never had

Sharonville Kiwanis Celebrates
70 years of Community Service
On May 24, 1945, twenty-five business and professional men of Sharonville began the Kiwanis Club of Sharonville.
Among the charter members were: A. Hanley, President; Robert Griffin, Vice President; William Puthoff, Treasurer;
Tom Hawkins, Secretary; Myron Luke, Dr. Ferris Beekley, Dr. John Stark, George Jones, J. Dan O’Sullivan, Emmet Cork
and Cliff Schneeman whom constituted the Board of Directors. Of these, Dan O’Sullivan, who died in 1998, was the
last remaining Charter Member.
This year we celebrate 70 years of community service in Sharonville, in Ohio, and in countries around the world.
Please join us at the Sharonville Kiwanis Halloween Party at the Sharonville Community Center on October 31st
beginning at 8:00pm as we continue our celebration. Our free, old fashioned Halloween Party includes activities
a costume contest, carved & decorated pumpkin contest, and refreshments.
Veterans Day Observance

Military; active, inactive, or retired will receive a commemorative pin in gratitude for their service as we
honor our service men and women during this program. Veterans unable to attend the observance may
pick up a pin at Sharonville City Hall located at 10900 Reading Road. For questions, please contact the
