August 2015
Dear Team,
The summer has come to a close and all of our YLFR children are back safely from wonderful Mystery Trips to
Massanutten, Virginia Beach and Great Wolf Lodge. Our older students are back from Summers Best Two Weeks
Citikidz Camp and Camp Hope. Thank you to each person and church who sponsored a child to go on one or
more of these trips. Thank you to the staff of both Citikidz Camp and Camp Hope for your gracious love and care
for our students!
You can be praying for our staff as we reflect on the summer and then prepare for the school year that we would
take the time necessary to make this transition well. It has been a busy summer and we are thankful for this time
of preparation.
We hope that many of you will participate in the Amazing Raise coming up September 16-17. Youth Life wants to
get the Early Bird Prize: a prize given to the first 15 organizations to get 50 people giving $50 or more. The clock
for this prize starts ticking at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, September 16. The winners will each get a $2,500 prize!
We also are anticipating seeing many of our mentors again this fall and know that both you and your mentee
are excited to reconnect after a long summer apart. If you are interested in mentoring for the first time this fall,
please contact mentor@ylfr.org and Charity will let you know more information about the process of becoming a
mentor!
Have a good end to your summer!
Heather Goodlett, Founder and ED, YLFR
Our four Leaders in Training worked SO hard this summer and were able to celebrate with the Flying Squirrels, thanks to Chris Pearson, who purchased a special
baseball package at our recent golf tournament and
generously offered to bring the LITs along. The group
got a private tour of the ballpark including time in the
dugout, a chance to announce the batters one inning,
and our very own Arturo threw out an impressive
STRIKE for the first
pitch! By the time the
fireworks were over,
one LIT declared the
experience to be “the
best day ever!” We’re
so proud of these youth
and so thankful to Chris
for inviting us!
Thank you again to all the sponsors who made this year’s camp and Mystery Trips
possible. Read more about our summer travels below!
