Laura Royal
has joined us and is on Skiyente’s Oui Ski PACRAT
team. Her father has worked
with NWSCC for years representing Schweitzer Ski Area.
(not Silver Mountain as previously mentioned) He contacted
us at the Ski Fair and introduced us to Jenny.
As was said across the meeting
room as Laura was handed the
membership packet, “It’s about
time!” She’s been skiing and partying with us for years. So happy
that you are officially in our family
and wearing a Skiyente pin. Laura
is Sally’s sister-n-law.

Man and Woman of the Year
Sheri Parshall awarded Sandi Shaub the NWSCC plaque for Woman of the Year awardees. Sandi
was the council’s 2014 elected winner. From left to right are Diane Hicks, Louise DuFresne, Sheri Parshall, Sandi Shaub and Barb Pressentin. All were past NWSCC Women of the Year.
NWSCC is now accepting nominations for 2015 Man and Woman of the Year. Grab a pen and write
a short paragraph about why that person has contributed to the skiing community. All entries may be
e-mailed to secretary@nwskiers.org Deadline for nominations is March 1, 2015. You may nominate a
person from any NWSCC club. Skiyente will be choosing nominees at the February meeting.
Skiyente “Properties” Looking for New Digs
Skiyente owns many treasures that help supply us with promotional and decorative items,
enhancing our club’s events throughout the year. They have been residing at the home of
Louise DuFresne for more than 25 years! It is time they find a new place to dwell. If you
are interested and can find room, please contact editor@skiyente.com. There are: 14
plastic/Rubbermaid containers of various sizes, 3 large plastic bags, 1 partially filled
bookshelf and assorted foam display boards. 2 sets of professional foam display boards
complete with carrying cases.

Club Members To Submit Choices for Charitable Donations-NOTICE #3
Skiyente is famous for our charitable contributions throughout the community we love. We are giving to
the Mt Hood Museum and Cultural Center. We also contribute to the Erin Nichole Scholarship Fund, named
after one of our member’s daughter who died with S.I.D.S.
In 2015 we will be deciding on at least one more contribution. If you know of a worthy cause or entity,
Skiyente would like you to submit it in writing no later than February 20th, 2015 to the editor for the
March newsletter. There must be an accompanied bit of information about the recipient and why they
would be a good candidate. E-mail to editor@skiyente.com . At the April meeting Skiyente members will
then select from only those submitted suggestions. As of this date, only one suggestion has been made.
This is the FINAL notice.
Four Elements of Safety
Although this is primarily for climbers and out of bounds mountain travel, it is a great
reminder for skiers and of the respect we owe our favorite playground.

King Winter
We will be nominating and voting for 2015 King Winter at the February meeting. You may
however recommend someone at any time with a short paragraph and of reasons why. If
you nominate, be able to furnish the contact information also. Amanda Moran is chair and
you may give her the information to be read before nominations are made. We revere our
kings and hold them high as do we our glasses to toast them. Be sure to come to this important meeting to be a part of our signature event.
Our Maryanne Cup Club Race (named in honor of our first President, Maryanne Hill) is normally held the day of King Winter. Due to the weather this year, times from our Fun Race
held February 15 will be used for the Maryanne Cup results. Are you in training? Also, as a
public service announcement, it is never too early to train for shotski!

If you would like to plan a fun time for either Summer Function or our casual Tailgater, talk with Amanda to
see how much Skiyente has budgeted for you. Tailgater occurs in the Spring or around the last PACRAT race
on the mountain or in Government Camp. Summer Function is usually in July or August and can be anywhere
your imagination takes you. Select a member to help you and show off your party skills! New members….give it a try, and get a seasoned member to co-chair. You can’t go wrong.

MT. HOOD CULTURAL CENTER & MUSEUM
Government Camp, Oregon
News Release
January 15, 2015
For Immediate Release
For more information contact: Lloyd Musser (503-367-3946)
Ski Glade Trail Day 2015
Government Camp, OR – The Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum will hold this annual event on March 7,
2015. Once a year, under permit from the US Forest Service, the historic Glade Ski Trail is opened and groomed
for this participatory living history event. This once popular downhill ski trail starts at Timberline Lodge and ends in
Government Camp, a distance of three miles. Before the advent of high speed ski lifts, highly groomed slopes and
extreme snowboard acrobatics, skiing long trails was popular. According to Lloyd Musser, Museum Curator, “this
event helps fulfill or mission of preserving and interpreting the history of Mt. Hood”. This is a chance for Grandparents to ski with their grandchildren and share the memories of skiing the Glade Trail, when it was the biggest ski
adventure on Mt. Hood.” “This will be the twelfth year of this event and it is always a fun event”.
Participants are treated to a red carpet day of skiing. Skiers are shuttled to Timberline in comfortable airport
shuttle vans, escorted by local guides and senior members of the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol, and served a hearty lunch.
Shuttles will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM allowing ticket holders to make several trail runs. The events of the day
are recounted at the Après ski party, where prizes are awarded. Wearing vintage ski clothing is encouraged.
Participation is limited to 75 skiers. Event tickets are $100.00 per person for members, a portion of which is deductible as a donation to the MHCC&M, a non-profit organization. Non-members may purchase a ticket and
membership for $125.00 that includes a one year family museum membership. Additional tickets for family members are $100.00. Tickets may be purchased at the museum, or by calling 503-272-3301. Visa is accepted.
Background information on Mt. Hood trail skiing is available on our webpage in an article entitled Trail Skiing on
Mount Hood a Long Standing Tradition. www.mthoodmuseum.org
Photographs from past years events are available on the website or upon request.
Photographs of past events available upon reguest.

Alice Jacklet
Laura Whitehorn
Debbie Kitchin
Megan Cassidy (NWSCC Member)
Mother Nature has been rather fickle with us! We have snow but not enough to sustain the number of racers on a single course. Thus the first NASTAR race was cancelled and the first originally scheduled PACRAT race was postponed until April 4 (location TBD). Fortunately the original
PACRAT race #2 was held January 25.
Also, so sorry to hear that Dan Schindler who had completed our 2nd team had an injury and is
unable to race. Another council member, Megan Cassidy has stepped in for him so that we do
have a complete team– hooray!
A woman is like a teabag. You never know how strong she is until you put her in hot
water!
