APRIL DINNER CONTINUED
LEGACY AWARD
The host family would like to thank all those who
helped make our Anniversary Dinner so special:
In 2001, the Euzkaldunak Board introduced the
Legacy Award. This award is given to individuals
who have exhibited a long-term commitment to
the goals of Euzkaldunak.
 Chef Jesus Alcelay and his kitchen staff
 Jamie O’Mahony and her babysitting crew
 Julian Lete for all his experienced help
 All members who facilitated the change from a
dining hall to a dance hall
 All members for their observance of the “Rule
of One” practice – great success
 Special thanks to our charter members who
attended as guests of Euzkaldunak
 “Amuma Says No” for kicking our 64th
Anniversary into party mode with their special
music enjoyed by all ages.
Thanks especially to the 375 members and guests
that joined together to make our Anniversary
dinner a great success.
SAVE THE DATE: MOVIE NIGHT AT THE
BASQUE CENTER
Euzkaldunak is proud to once again present
“Movie Night” at the Basque Center. Please join
us on Thursday, May 23rd upstairs in the card
room. No host cocktails begin at 6:30 pm and the
movie will start at 7:00 pm. “TASIO” – This is
legendary Basque director, Montxo Armendariz’
classic film of a charcoal-maker in Navarre. This
is a traditional film in which Tasio grows up from
a boy to a teen to a man, giving the viewer a
sympathetic and clear picture of Basque culture.
The Board has selected its recipients for 2013 and
will announce the selection during the May
Dinner.
We hope that members attend this dinner to
welcome new recipients of Euzkaldunak’s most
prestigious award.
BIOTZETIK BASQUE CHOIR WANTS YOU
Do you love to sing?
Is it important to you to preserve our folk and
choral music?
Can you carry a tune?
Can you attend rehearsals every Wednesday?
Please consider joining Biotzetik Basque Choir.
We are currently recruiting new or returning
members and plan to start a new group of
members in May. Since it is often overwhelming
to join an established choir, we are trying to make
this a positive and fun experience for new singers:
There are no auditions.
You do not have to be Basque or to speak Basque.
Each new member will have a mentor to help
The new members will meet before the regular
choir rehearsal for language training ….. i.e.
pronunciation.
New members will work on three songs only for
their beginning sessions. You will be invited to
stay for the regular rehearsal if you wish to do so.
If you are comfortable with the music, you
certainly can join the choir singing at the San
Inazio Mass.
Please give us a try …. We’d love to have you join
us!
 For information, please call Patti
Lachiondo 794-5674 or Liz Hardesty 3436967.
BASQUE MUSEUM & CULTURAL CENTER
CELEBRATES BOISE 150! & IDAHO 150!
Join the Basque Museum as it celebrates Boise
150 and Idaho 150 with activities for children and
adults on Saturday, June 1.
We’ll begin at 10:00 AM with fun activities for
children ages 4-12 years. There will be a basic
introduction to archaeology and the Cyrus
Jacobs/Uberuaga House followed by activities
including: crafts, musical instruments,
washboards, the Bolatoki (outdoor bowling), and
artifact recovery. Special tours of the historic
house and the recent discovery of the well will be
given to all children participating. (NOTE: Preregistration is suggested for the children’s portion
of the day’s activities).
At noon, Professor Stacey Camp, UI Archaeology,
accompanied by two UI Archaeology students
who participated on the dig of the Jacobs Family
well in August 2012 will present some of their
findings of the pioneer Jacobs Family and the
oldest surviving brick residence in Boise.
NOTE: Children’s activities will continue
outside while the adult presentation takes place
inside so that families can participate in the

BASQUE CENTER ARTS CRAFT AND
HOME EXPO
SUMMER EXCHANGE IN THE BASQUE
COUNTRY
Kick off your summer by shopping your local
artisans and vendors in a cultural venue. Join us
for a day at the Basque Center Arts Craft & Home
Expo on Saturday, June 1, starting at 10:00 AM
until 6:00 PM. Enjoy a glass of wine at the Basque
bar and our tapas bar and wine tasting exhibit.
A Basque family is interested in a dual student
exchange. They would like to host a teen and are
looking for a family to host their son Iñigo.
Iñigo is a 14 year old native of Vitoria – Gasteiz.
He is fluent in English and attends a bilingual
school (Basque and English) in the Basque
country. His dad works for the Basque
government. Their main goal is for Iñigo to have
a positive experience abroad, while practicing his
English and getting to know the surrounding
Basque community. In turn, they would be
willing to host a student as well.
Admission is free. Location: 601 W. Grove Street,
Boise. For more information or Vendor interest,
please contact us via email:
pathorm55@gmail.com or
watersanderson@cableone.net. Space is limited.
BASQUE COUNTRY STUDENT HOSTING
OPPORTUNITY
Help continue to forge the bond between Boise
and the Basque Country by hosting a high school
student this summer. A group of nine students
from 14-17 years of age will be coming from June
30-July 27, 2013. Host families will be
compensated to help with expenses for the month
and the added person in the home. Please contact
Kyle Harbacheck at kyle.harbacheck@gmail.com
for more information or any questions you may
have. Gora Euskadi!
They are looking for a boy or girl whose parents
will be interested in hosting Iñigo for the months
of July or August. They don’t care when the boy
or girl from the States goes over to the Basque
country; they are open to any dates and amount of
time. It could even be up to a year. This is a great
opportunity for your teenager to go visit the
Basque country and tour around with Iñigo and his
dad.
If interested, please email
