Dear ISDS Members, Dear SSDV Members, Dear Guests Joseph Alcalay, M.D. Congress President Scientific Committee Jürg Hafner, M.D. Congress President Scientific Committee Günter Burg M.D. Honorary President Andreas M. Skaria M.D. Scientific Committee On behalf of the International Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the Swiss Society of Dermatology and Venereology we welcome you to the joint meeting of both societies in the wonderful city of Lucerne from October 18th to 20th, 2012. An outstanding scientific program together with enriched social activities promises that you are going to be part of an excellent meeting. CONGRESS PRESIDENTS Joseph Alcalay, M.D. // Israel Jürg Hafner, M.D. // Switzerland Honorary President Günter Burg, M.D. // Switzerland Scientific Committee Joseph Alcalay, M.D. // Israel Jürg Hafner, M.D. // Switzerland Kai Munte, M.D. // Netherlands Andreas M. Skaria M.D. // Switzerland For the last 32 years the ISDS has been the leading society in dermatologic surgery worldwide. The input of its members to the knowledge and expertise of dermatologic and aesthetic surgery is well recognized. The annual meeting this year is very special due to the fact the SSDV is taking an equal part in the program. This will expose ISDS members from 43 countries to the excellence of Swiss dermatology and will promote dermatologic surgery among dermatologists of the center of Europe, since it is also our goal to actively involve all our Austrian and German friends in the program. A lot of our most renown senior experts in dermatologic surgery from all member countries around the world have already consented to give their talks and workshops, and there is also plenty of space for free communications, which will guarantee a good mixture of expertise in established techniques with innovation, new heads and new ideas. Congress Secretary Sonja Sattler, M.D. // Germany Lucerne is easily accessable with public transportation from Zurich airport. The city of Lucerne harbours a very nice old town and is located at one of the most beautiful lakes at the north rim of the amazing Swiss Alps. The Friday afternoon excursion will take us with a steam boat to the famous village of Vitznau, from where the historical rackrailway brings all of us to the top of the Rigi, one of the loveliest mountains in the area. The Rigi Hotel Kulm will offer us a typical Swiss Dinner with a superb view on all important peaks of the Swiss and even French Alps. Historian Deborah S. Sarnoff, M.D. // USA The gala dinner will take place at the congress venue itself, the splendid Palace Hotel of Lucerne, located at the lake with a view on the great “KKL” concert hall right on the opposite side of the water. The success of the meeting also depends on your attendance. We very much look forward to your participation in the meeting and to welcoming you to Lucerne. All about us … The International Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ISDS) was founded in 1978 in response to a need for a worldwide forum for dermatologists who offer surgical treatment to their patients. In addition, the ISDS brings dermatologic surgeons together so they may exchange innovative techniques and work for standardization and improvement of training programs in dermatologic surgery and cosmetic surgery. The ISDS encourages continuing education and research in the field of dermatologic and cosmetic surgery and related fields through an Annual Scientific Congress. Physicians from as many as 62 countries attend these congresses. The sharing of new surgical procedures, research and statistics is essential in the search for a more effective way to treat skin conditions. At these congresses the ISDS always offers a social side program of gala activities in special historic and artistic locales and tours of the city and country of the venue where we can form a group of friends which not only exchange their knowlege at the Congress but also throughout the years. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet people with similar interests from different parts of the world. The friendships established at our events have always been a strong part of our Society. It affords an opportunity to attend the international meetings at different locations around the world, to enjoy the local cuisine, cameraderie, friendship and beauty of the countries where meetings are held.
