UNIQUE AND EMPOWERING FUNERAL SERVICES 425.316.8290 er L Char Barrett is a licensed funeral director, home funeral consultant, certified celebrant and founder of A Sacred Moment, Inc. She is also the first president of the National Home Funeral Alliance, acting as a leader and bridge between the existing funeral industry and a growing grassroots movement that supports families to care for their own at death. Family & Community Consultations Silv Char Barrett with Bindi and the rest of the staff. Whatever services you select, we can support you practically and spiritually. We understand your family’s sacred moments are unique. Taking The Time You Need When death happens, we support your innate right to stay with your loved one for an hour, a day or a full three-day home vigil. Or we can receive the body right away, with a visitation later if you choose. It is entirely up to you. Cremations & Burials Perhaps you will select a simple cremation. We arrange many, as they are quite popular in the Northwest. Conventional burials are also a familiar choice. Burial allows the casket and body to be present for a time, providing a longer chance to say goodbye. Meaningful ceremonies can be created with either choice. “My dad wanted a ‘no frills’ cremation. We got that with A Sacred Moment. No sales pressure and the standard urn was perfect for scattering Dad’s ashes on Mount Rainier.” Hand-decorated casket photo courtesy of the Powers family. Green Burials You might choose a green burial. That’s when an unembalmed body returns to the earth in a biodegradable shroud or casket, without concrete liners/vaults required by most cemeteries. We are proud to be a member of the Green Burial Council, facilitating a growing number of green natural burials in the Northwest. Home Funerals You may decide to have a home-funeral (also called home visitation or vigil). Quite simply, your loved one lies in honor at home rather than in a mortuary. Similar to a wake, a home funeral allows family, friends and communities to gather in familiar surroundings to share memories and say goodbye. Often, a more formal funeral service follows outside the home, before cremation or burial. A Sacred Moment is one of the first funeral services in the country to specialize in bringing back this timeless, traditional custom. “With a home funeral we showed our children that death is a natural part of life…It was so healing with our dog lying under the decorated casket every night. Together we cried and celebrated Mom’s good life.” Green burial photo courtesy of Fernwood Cemetery, Mill Valley, CA. “I have done many funerals and graveside services in my years of ministry...I have to say that this shroud/green burial was the most deeply moving such ritual I have ever participated in.” Life Celebration Services Life celebrations (including “living memorials” for people before they die) honor the individual nature of a person’s journey. We can help you plan a personal service and, as certified celebrants, we can also officate. Education & Consultations Our home-funeral trainings and personal consultations teach families and communities how to be more actively involved when someone dies. Cultural and spiritual groups who have specific ways of caring for the body and soul are supported. Bindi, our therapy dog.
