DefenDisk™ Portable Hard Drive with Emergency Destruct Feature
The DefenDisk combines the data storage of a hard drive
with the security of a degausser in a single, safe, easy to
use package. Simple USB connection allows for plug and
play use with desktop, tower, and laptop computers.
When security is breached and an “emergency destruct”
order is given, simply flip the ARM switch and push the
TRIGGER button. The drive is rendered useless in less
than 30 seconds.
Because the unit comes with a removable drive tray, drives

how a disintegrator works
SEM coined the term “disintegrator” over 40 years ago. Today, we have
more disintegrators in use in more maximum security installations than
any other company.
SEM disintegrators utilize proven rotary
knife mill technology to destroy virtually
any bulk material into irregularly shaped
particles which can’t be reconstructed.
All SEM disintegrators meet the requirements of :
- NSA/CSS 02-02 for paper destruction
- NSA/CSS 04-02 for optical media destruction
- NSA/CSS 04-01 for key tape destruction
The cutting mechanism consists of
3 or 5 high tensile strength knives
mounted on a solid steel rotor which
pass 2 stationary bed knives. Material
is cut continuously until it is small
enough to pass through a perforated
sizing screen. Once the material passes
through the sizing screen, it is evacuated
through an air collection system.

Unlike paper shredders where particle size and shape are pre-determined, disintegrators provide users the flexibility to change
the final waste size. For non-classified destruction, screens with larger holes can be used, which dramatically increases thru-put
capacity (by as much as 400 lbs per hour on a Model 23/5). For maximum security destruction that meets the requirements of
NSA/CSS 02-02 for the destruction of paper, 04-02 for the destruction of optical media, and 04-01 for the destruction of key
tape, smaller screens must be substituted.
The screen changing process takes only about a minute so downtime is virtually non-existent.

Dual Stage systems incorporate the best features of both
a shredder and a disintegrator. The first stage pre-shreds
the bulk material then the second stage converts the
waste into any desired particle size.
These three units feature a pre-shredder and disintegrator

From the moment your items enter our facility, they are
100% secure. They are immediately barcode tagged, logged
into our database, and placed in a locked cage within our
destruction room. The destruction room is secured via the
PalmSecure™ Biometric Authentication System. Only
authorized personnel have access to the facility. Reporting
software provides complete data on an individual’s time
of entry and time of exit. IP based cameras track activity
24/7. Destruction is carried out within 48 hours of entering
the facility.
The equipment in our destruction facility is the envy of the
