and beautiful sunsets throughout Grant County.
Nestled within the bluffs and ridges of Grant
County are many retreats that allow you to forget

is not only known as the Wild Turkey Hunting
Capital of Wisconsin, but also the birthplace of
the Gideon Bible.

CUBA CITY
Cuba City is located on Highway 80 in
southwest Grant County on the county
line with Lafayette County, just north of
the Illinois and Iowa s t ate border s.
A bicentennial project in 1975-76 – a presidential
silhouette of each president, the state they
were born in, and their time spent in office –
has adorned each light pole in the downtown
business district, along with an American flag.
The presidential plaques have been updated a
few times with the help of local businesses and
organizations. The Chamber of Commerce put
this theme to work in 1993 by adopting it as the
official motto for the city, “The City of Presidents”.
The motto was then painted on the water tower;
a few years later new entrance signs were erected
on the entrances to the city depicting the motto
“The City of Presidents”.
While in Cuba City, visit the newly remodeled
Veterans Memorial Park, where a list of all
area veterans’ names are depicted – from the
Spanish American War through the conflicts in
Afghanistan and Iraq. Also, stop by the newest
park in Cuba City, the Presidential Courtyard,
GRANT COUNTY
Southwest Gateway to Hidden Valleys | www.grantcounty.org/tourism
located on Main Street, complete with a vintage
restored caboose, a railroad workman’s car, and
a railroad signal, plus a gazebo which is a great
picture-taking site. These are a few of the ways the
motto was put to work for the city. To solidify this
claim, the 43rd President of these United States of
America, George W. Bush, passed through twice
in his bid for re-election in 2004. On his second
trip through, he stopped at the high school and
gave an impressive speech to students and the
general public during a standing-room-only
historical event. A trip through Cuba City would
not be complete without stopping at some of the
local businesses. If you are into antique shopping,
there are four antique malls for your exploring
pleasure, as well as gift and craft shops. If you
are hungry, there are many solutions for that in
the pubs and eateries. If it’s golf you’re looking
for, Cuba City boasts a beautiful nine-hole public
golf course at Cole Acres Golf Course. They are
located on the east side of the city. But many
visitors find the award-winning cheese factory
and meat plant a reason to return to Cuba City
after tasting some of the products featured by
these two businesses.

DICKEYVILLE
Dickeyville is home to the famous Dickeyville
Grotto, which is located on the grounds of the
Holy Ghost Church. The grotto and religious and

FENNIMORE
Another historical landmark in Lancaster is the
City Hall, which is on the National Register of
Historic Places. This striking building is an example
of prairie-style architecture which was popular in
the early 1900s. Visitors can see many beautiful
older homes with architectural styles ranging from
Frank Lloyd Wright to Queen Anne.
The wooded ridges and farmland valleys
surrounding Fennimore are a sportsman’s dream.
Springs band together to form trout streams such
as the nationally famous Big Green River, the Little
Green River, the Blue River, and Crooked Creek,
as well as the pioneering catch and release trout
fishing sections of Castle Rock Creek.
Grant County Courthouse,
Lancaster
Fennimore is also home to two charming
museums, The Fennimore Doll and Toy Museum
& Gift Shoppe, and the Fennimore Historical
Railroad Museum; these cultural attractions
offer something for everyone. After shopping,
you can eat at one of the unique eating places.
Fennimore’s 45-acre nature park offers visitors a
glimpse of native trees and flowers, with a wide
variety of birds available for birdlovers to view.
Three miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails
entwine the park which also has RV parking.
n
HAZEL GREEN
Established in 1824, Hazel Green is Wisconsin’s
“Point of Beginning” – the place where the land
survey began in 1831. Just outside of town lies
the Point of Beginning Historical Marker. Many of
Hazel Green’s historic buildings remain, including
the Wisconsin House (1846) and the Opera
House/Town Hall (1898).
n
LANCASTER
Lancaster is situated in an area known for its rolling
hills and picturesque valleys. Lancaster is home
to the Grant County Fair held in August. Check
the website grantcountyfairwi.org. The county
fairgrounds also hosts a number of community
activities such as the high school rodeo, musical
performances, arts and craft festivals, and
numerous agricultural events. A stroll around
the courthouse square, located in downtown
Lancaster, can carry the visitor to an earlier time
in our history. Inside the courthouse building,
the rotunda and murals are striking examples
of public building architecture. The grounds of
the courthouse contain statues and monuments
attesting to the rich history of the area.

LIVINGSTON
Livingston was established in 1880 when the
railroad was routed through the area. Many of
the older houses in Livingston were moved in
from the Cokersville mines in the 1920s and the
two churches in town are each over 125 years old.
Livingston is located a short drive from some
of the best trout fishing streams in Southwest
Wisconsin, as well as three very good lakes for
fishing located at Blackhawk Lake Park, and
Governor Dodge State Park.
Although it is a small community of just over 600
residents, Livingston is home to four different
parks equipped with playgrounds, several large
shelter houses with utilities, a veterans’ and local
citizens’ memorial, gazebos and ball diamonds.
Held each June the weekend after Father’s Day,
the Livingston Festival has been an annual
tradition for over 40 years. Previous years, the
festival featured a battle of the bands, bed
races, fireworks, car show, parade, chicken BBQ,
children’s rides and games, as well as other events.
While visiting Livingston, there are several places
to get a bite to eat. Rebel’s Supper Club on Main
Street, serves Noon lunches and dinner specials
Wednesday through Sunday. J’s Bar on Main
Street, and the Friendly Place Mobile Station and
convenience store on Highway 80. Check out the
meteorite on the water tower, a reminder of the
meteorite that landed close to Livingston in 2010.
