DC Report
Once again a warm welcome to the Huon Pony Club Newsletter. I hope you are all
managing to stay warm and dry in this beautiful winter weather.
Firstly to some results from the Campbell Town Show –
Well done to Melinda Sward and Alfie for “Reserve Champion Junior Rider”
Also congrats to James Wakefield and Denny for “Champion Large Pony”
Last but not Least to Sasha Cantwell and Anton for placing well in the Show Jumping
It’s great that some riders are still out and about in the middle of winter having some
fun and competing for the club.
As our club is expanding in numbers, so the challenge arises of grouping the riders so
that everyone has fun and are learning and moving forward on their horses. Your
feedback is appreciated and welcomed, perhaps not at 10am on Sunday morning when
it’s pretty chaotic, but Camille, Karen and I are all approachable and happy to talk
about any issues or suggestions you have. Of course if you would like to have more of a
say in what happens please think about taking up a position on the committee at our
upcoming AGM.

We would really like a group photo of our current riders. If anyone is willing to tackle
this task please let me know.
August Rally - We are at Huntingfield. A great chance to get in some cross country
training before eventing season starts in September.
AGM – Friday 9th August
If you are not already aware Show Jump Champs will be held in December this year
with the most likely venue being Westbury. You will need qualifing rounds, please
check the pcat website for latest info. It would be great if people could start using their
membership cards to record events and qualifiers for all upcoming state events. That is
what they are for!!
TRIALS
Planning is already underway for the 2014 State Pony Club Trials to be held in the
Southern Zone in March 2014. As a club we have been assigned some work to do. One
of those things is to build a jump for the cross country course at Monmouth. If you
would like to be involved your help would be greatly appreciated. The jump needs to
comply with certain standards, but we will be needing materials, labour, and some
bright ideas. We are also required to organise the Saturday night official dinner this
will involve decorating tables (be on the look out for groovy stuff off eBay – Trici??),
selling dinner tickets and general overseeing. And lastly we will also be catering for the
BBQ on Sunday night at TEC. Closer to the date we will need people to commit to
helping with these things.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank not only the hard working committee but
also those parents not on the committee who are always helping around the club in
many various ways – this club is great because of you!

Showjumping Day
Our club is designing a set of x-country jumps for
Trials. If anyone has any ideas of what we could do,
please inform Gaylene by the 1st of August.
There is also a competition for all Pony Club members
to design the 2014 State Trials logo, which will be
featured on all official programs and uniforms. Must
include: “Pony Club Association Tasmania, State Trials
2014”. Entries submitted to PO Box 85 Brighton, 7030
or emailed to cawatson2@bigpond.com, by the 1st of
August. The winning entry will receive a State Trials
saddle blanket.

Sassy is grey and fast, she's
usually happy except when you do her girth up then she
bites! She gets into mischief with Chloe, breaking into the
shed and eating the horse food and running around the yard,
she can also open the gates. Sassy is special because she can
do a lot of things like going over the bridge and she is not
scared of stuff, except for concrete birds!

horse x with a star who is sweet and always wants to please.
Coming 3rd at State Trials 2013.

Pat Parelli
Pat Parelli with Magic
Born in California’s Bay Area, Pat Parelli was obsessed with horses at an early
age.When Pat was just 13 his talents were recognized and he spent his summers
learning how to be natural with horses, dogs and cattle.
At the Age of 17, Pat Parelli launched himself into rodeos, his favourite event
beingthe bareback riding. Pat one the bareback Rookie of the Year title in 1972.
Determined to find a business after rodeo, he started a business training colts, but
soon got frustrated and resisted the idea that horses should be treated as an inanimate
object.
Troy Henry helped Patunderstand the true dynamicsf horsemanship and being an
intense student,Pat developed his own style of teaching.
In 1983, while performing bridle-less at the Californian Livestock Symposium, Pat
met three men who significantly contributed to his horsemanship knowledge: Tom
Dorrance, Ray Hunt and Ronnie Willis – all masters who became Pat’s mentors.
He created the revolutionary Pat Parelli Horsemanship method and it is one of the
most popular training methods in the world.
