SATURDAY 18 : Depart for Scotland—Depart the USA for your overnight flight to Edinburgh.
SUNDAY 19: Arrive Edinburgh
Arrive Edinburgh Airport, where your driver/guide will be waiting to greet you and take you into the city where
you can check-in to your hotel. The balance of the morning and afternoon is at leisure to explore and relax a
little on your own. Enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel this evening .

MONDAY 20: Edinburgh ~ Ysolda Teague at Kathy’s Knits
Today meet with Ysolda Teague a young Scottish designer and publisher of popular knitting patterns and books in
her Whimsical Little Knits series. Take a class with Ysolda at Kathy’s Knits (A lovely knitting shop right in the heart
of Edinburgh city). Evening at leisure for dinner on your own.
TUESDAY 21 : Panoramic Tour of Edinburgh Free Time in Edinburgh
After breakfast enjoy a panoramic tour of Edinburgh. Afternoon at leisure to explore. Perhaps visit the 10th
century Edinburgh Castle, or tour the Queens former yacht Britannia. Visit Holyrood Palace or take a leisurely
stroll down the Royal Mile. Maybe even do some Yarn shopping. Evening at leisure for dinner on your own.
WEDNESDAY 22: Edinburgh to Dundee
After breakfast journey north to the coastal town of Dundee. En route visit with Di Gilpin in Largoward, located
near St Andrews in Fife. Di’s studio is a restored stone bothy, where the walls are lined with shelves of cashmere,
cotton and linen threads, baskets of Scottish Lamb’s Wool and rails of exquisitely knitted garments. A single
Di Gilpin garment can take as long as two months to create, hand-knitted in the finest Scottish yarn and inspired
by Scotland’s rich heritage. After a Mini workshop, Di will do a brief talk and you will be able to see her latest
collections. Also an opportunity to meet with some local knitters on that day. Make a stop at Scone Palace before
continuing on to Dundee with evening dinner on your own.
THURSDAY 23: History of the Scottish Kilt - Ferry from Aberdeen to the Shetland Islands
Today visit with Marion at “Askival of Strathearn” to learn about the tradition of the Scottish Kilt. Marion
worked for years as a dressmaker before learning the art of Kilt-making passed down from one of the last master
Kilt makers of the Gordon Highlanders. Also an opportunity to see a Cylinder Sock Machine dating back to the
1920’s - Invented in the 1800’s these machines came into their own during the 1st world war when there was a
need for socks to send to soldiers in the trenches. Your visit with Marion will include the history of the Kilt and an
opportunity to purchase small tartan gifts including tartan for patchwork. Later take an over-night ferry to
Britain’s most northerly outpost, the Shetland Islands. Arrive Lerwick the morning of the 24th Sept.
FRIDAY 24 : Shetland Islands
After an early morning arrival in the port of Lerwick transfer to your hotel (due to early arrival rooms may not be available until later in the day) where you will spend the next 3 nights. After dropping off your bags at your hotel depart
for Jamieson’s of Shetland to do a tour and purchase yarn at the shop if you so wish. This afternoon an opportunity to visit the Shetland Textile Museum. Displays at the museum include knitted Shetland textiles form the
19th century to the present day. Items on show demonstrate Shetland’s traditional heritage through knitted
garments and accessories, showing how fashion has changed over the years.
Return to your hotel for evening dinner.

SATURDAY 25: Jamieson & Smith Woolen Mills ~ Ella Gordon
After breakfast, the morning at leisure to explore Lerwick. In the afternoon visit
Jamieson & Smith Woolen Mills and meet Oliver Henry, known as the Wool Man.
Oliver has spent 45 years at Jamieson & Smith and is the resident expert on all things
woolen. This evening meet with Ella Gordon (also a full time worker at Jamieson &
Smith) Ella takes her inspiration from the culture, history and unique textile heritage of
the Shetland Isles and produces her distinctive knitted textiles on a hand machine. Her
beautifully crafted crofthouse cushions are knitted in Shetland wool and stuffed with
Shetland fleece. Evening dinner at the hotel.
SUNDAY 26: Hazel Tindall - Donna Smith ~ Shetland Museum & Archives
Following breakfast, visit the Shetland Museum and Archives which tells the complete
story of life on the Shetland Islands. After lunch return to the hotel where Hazel Tindall
and Donna Smith will join you for an afternoon of knitting. Hazel grew up on Shetland
and has knitted for over 50 years. She loves knitting Fair Isle. Enjoy a 3 hour class with
Hazel where you will concentrate on knitting a Fair Isle bookmark, involving knitting in
the round, steeking and cutting. A number of techniques in a little project. Evening at
leisure for dinner on your own.
MONDAY 27: Shetland to Inverness
Pick-up at the hotel after breakfast. Visit Jarlshof Prehistoric Norse Settlement and the
opportunity for some last minute shopping in Lerwick before taking a mid-afternoon
flight to Inverness. On arrival in Inverness travel to your Castle hotel for dinner and
overnight.
TUESDAY 28: Inverness to Edinburgh
Depart Inverness after breakfast and journey south along the shores of Lough Ness with
a chance to do some monster hunting along the way as you cruise on the Lough.
Journey to Fort William and through Glencoe with stunning mountain scenery along
the way as we head to Edinburgh for overnight. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner to
round off your Scottish adventure.
WEDNESDAY 29: Depart Edinburgh for the USA
