The impressively designed 54,000m² landmark project has remarkable architecture and is covered by an ‘intelligent roof’ which perfectly integrates into the landscape and generates spectacular views of the Alps and Jura mountains. Beyond aesthetics, this impressive cover performs a very important environmental role by regulating the temperature, filtering the light, collecting rain water and, by its photovoltaic systems, producing energy. The scheme is part of a HQE (High Environmental Quality) to reduce its impact on the environment and as such this ‘zero-energy project’ is the first one of this kind in its category in France. Our understanding of passenger interaction within transportation environments allows us to deliver integrated operational and commercial solutions. p78-81 ST PANCRAS INTERNATIONAL p84 HEATHROW AIRPORT T5 p85 London, UK London, UK p82-83 London, UK HEATHROW AIRPORT T2A LUXURY RETAIL p86-87 AIRPORT CONNECTOR Brussels, Belgium STANSTED INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURE LOUNGE Stansted, UK 77 ST PANCRAS INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORTATION RETAIL INTERIORS London, UK St Pancras International is a terminus celebrated for its Victorian architecture. The Grade I listed building is located in the London Borough of Camden and was opened in 1868. When it opened, the arched Barlow train shed was the largest single-span roof in the world. In an ongoing regeneration project for St Pancras and Kings Cross, Chapman 78 Taylor designed the integration of shops, cafes and bars into the new two-level concourse areas. The shops occupy the undercroft, formerly a Victorian beer store, opening up the floor level above to bring in natural light and increase visibility. The design creates high-quality station retail, sensitively integrated with the historic building fabric. 79 ST PANCRAS INTERNATIONAL London, UK 80 81 HEATHROW AIRPORT T5 TRANSPORTATION RETAIL INTERIORS London, UK Chapman Taylor were appointed lead architect for the interior retail, catering and public areas of Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5 (T5) complex in 1999, making us one of the original fifteen first-tier suppliers. From the beginning, we collaborated on the project with the terminal architect, advising on the retail- 82 related operational layouts. The vision for the £4.3 billion complex was to create world-class retail and catering facilities. At the outset, in addition to providing expertise in international retail design and trends, we undertook extensive research with BAA to identify the world’s best airport retailing. The design had to work within certain site constraints. Our design made full use of the single-span column free roof to combine space and natural light with user-friendly check-in and departure areas. It also maximised the outstanding views of the runway, aircraft and countryside beyond. 83 HEATHROW AIRPORT T2A LUXURY RETAIL TRANSPORTATION RETAIL INTERIORS London, UK This design of a retail area at Heathrow T2A includes the provision of luxury retail units along with a high end flagship unit. The luxury retail area houses a curved 84 frameless glazed flagship retail unit encircled by a fully illuminated stretch ceiling to the circulation space, leading directly on to the remaining units. The transparency and light encapsulated in this aspirational design allows the consumer to fully experience luxury retail. STANSTED INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURE LOUNGE TRANSPORTATION RETAIL INTERIORS Stansted, UK Manchester Airport Group appointed Chapman Taylor to develop the concept and scheme design for the major reconfiguration of the IDL at Stansted International Airport. The design takes clues from the original tree concept for London Stansted and creates a series of different zones each with their own linked design identity. 85 AIRPORT CONNECTOR Brussels, Belgium In 2011 Chapman Taylor won an architecture competition to design a new Connector building at Brussels Airport. The building links the two existing passenger terminals at the airport and replaces a 200m walkway tunnel. It contains all the departure flow from the airport within a simple screening area, accommodating passengers from terminals A and B. Strategically planned routes and spaces are designed to lead the passengers through the buildings and enhance their experience. Bridging the gap between structural efficiency and an elegant and expressive finish, the double-height building encourages passengers to dwell while the interior design provides a seamless connection between the two existing buildings. 86 TRANSPORTATION RETAIL INTERIORS 87 88 LEISURE We are the designers of leisure & entertainment schemes including cinemas, restaurants, food courts and sports facilities. The ticket sales and manager’s offices are located centrally within an aluminium–clad pod. Radial lighting from this pod completes the impression of a dome. Pardubice, Czech Republic 106 107 INDIAN MUSEUM Kolkata, India LEISURE INTERIORS The Indian Museum in Kolkata, founded in 1814 by the Asiatic Society of Bengal, is one of the oldest museums in the world and the largest museum in India. It houses rare collections of antiques, armour, fossils, skeletons, mummies, and Mughal paintings. Chapman Taylor’s offices in New Delhi and Milan undertook the major restoration and renovation of this museum. The restoration included refreshing the external and internal façades, a change of flooring, restoration of the administrative block, construction of a new ticket counter, restrooms and cafe and the full refurbishment of all the museum’s galleries. The museum and its refurbishment work are viewed as a project of national significance and one that is pivotal to international tourism, as well as providing a leadership role to the country’s future cultural and museology efforts. The improvement works have been seen as essential for the museum to ‘become more interesting for the visitor’ and help it remain relevant for the next 200 years. 108 109 110 HOSPITALITY Our practice has in-depth experience in designing a wide variety of hospitality developments ranging from large resorts with themed multihotel and residential masterplans to 5-star hotels in major cities around the world. We have a clear understanding of the customer experience and the requirements of the operator. p112 BRIGHTON SQUARE p114-115 RENAISSANCE LUCKNOW p116-117 Pattaya, Thailand p113 Lucknow, India RADDISON GREEN Kajat, India p118-119 SANYA SERENITY Hainan, China FG ROYAL HOTEL Riga, Latvia 111 BRIGHTON SQUARE Pattaya, Thailand Brighton Square situated in Pattaya, Thailand will consist of a 450 room, 3-star hotel plus a retail development providing 3000m2 of leasable space with function room facilities. Taking a cue, in part, from Riga’s Art Nouveau heritage a full interior design service has covered the entrance lobby, bar and restaurant, conference facilities, guest rooms and suites as well as a spa and cigar room in the basement. Chapman Taylor has also developed a new corporate identity and logo for the re-named hotel. 116 HOSPITALITY INTERIORS GRAPHICS 117 SANYA SERENITY MIXED USE HOSPITALITY LEISURE Hainan, China Conceived as a marina village, the development comprises a mix of retail and hospitality outlets, together with the marina requirements of clubhouse, sailing school and 300 yacht moorings. 118 Designed to the highest international standards the marina played host to the 2012 and 2014 Asian legs of the Volvo Ocean Racing series. 119 120 OFFICE We believe that the office must be a place in which to feel comfortable, motivated and inspired. The 11-storey building aims to reach BREEAM Excellent rating and capitalises on MediaCityUK’s already established tri-generation renewable district energy systems that benefit from canal water 126 cooling and heat recovery from the local on-site electricity generation engines. This contemporary development seeks to attract further visitors to the innovative area, operating as an exciting new media hub which can offer start-up businesses and fast growing media compromises flexible office space. Construction began in March 2015 and is due to complete in 2016. 127 FLOREASCA PARK OFFICE Bucharest, Romania Completed at the end of 2013, Floreasca Park is an award winning, high specification office development in the Floreasca area, located just North of the city centre of Bucharest. Chapman Taylor was asked to create a unique and ecological office park scheme containing class A offices for flagship tenants. The 67,200m2 scheme comprises 2 separate buildings that sit within an attractively landscaped plot of 1.5 hectares, which includes a dedicated bio-diversity habitat heavily planted with indigenous species. Floreasca Park was designed to provide 128 a combination of high specification, high efficiency office space with a particular focus on low energy consumption. All office areas have very good natural light, with building B containing two atria that also support a stack-effect ventilation system. The large, regular floor plates vary between 1,800m2 to 3,600m2 and provide flexible office space to accommodate the needs of a variety of tenant requirements, from cellular offices to conference rooms, from open plan high-density call centres to informal zones for social interaction. The Floreasca location in Bucharest offers excellent road links to the city centre and is close to the attractive northern residential districts and the nearby international airports. Convenient connections to public transport (buses, trams and metro) provide great access for the youthful workforce of the international companies that have located to the area in recent years. The buildings’ environmental systems make use of a ground sourced heat pump (GSHP), highly-efficient heating and cooling, including free night cooling and sun shading to the south and west facades, all of which help to reduce energy consumption, allowing tenants to enjoy a tangible reduction in their service charge. A BREEAM Excellent rating was confirmed in early 2014. Based on the success of this project the Client further instructed Chapman Taylor to develop new designs for a 78,000m2 office project on the other side of the road. This new scheme is currently under construction with completion scheduled for Q2 in 2016. 129 AIRGATE OFFICE Düsseldorf, Germany The Airgate office development is located within 5 minutes walking distance of Düsseldorf International Airport and forms the gateway to the Düsseldorf Airport City, a new generation business park on a 230,000m2 site directly adjacent to the airport. It 130 houses seven floors of high-quality office accommodation with a GLA of 4,200m2 plus one level of underground car parking. The façade is dominated by two fully glazed 3-storey glass cubes diagonally opposite each other while the layout is highly flexible and allows all forms of modern office accommodation. An innovative heating and cooling system is built into the concrete frame of the building, maximising wall and floor space for office use and removing the need for radiators. 131 ETHOS Warsaw, Poland Ethos is a prestigious mixed-use, retail and office scheme on the historic Royal Route in Warsaw.
