HISTORY, CULTURE & EXPERIENCE
Sevilla is one of the largest historical
centres in Europe, it has the minaret of La
Giralda, the Cathedral (one of the largest
in Christendom), and the Alcázar Palace.
Part of its treasure include Casa de Pilatos,
Torre del Oro, Archive of the Indies (where
the historical records of the American
continent are kept), the Fine Arts Museum
(the second largest picture gallery in Spain) ,
plus convents, parish churches and palaces.
FESTIVALS
GASTRONOMY
The Semana Santa (Holy Week) and the
Feria de Sevilla (Seville Fair), also known
as Feria de Abril (April Fair), are the two
most well-known of Seville's festivals.
Seville is internationally renowned for the
solemn but beautiful processions during
Holy Week and the colourful and lively fair
held two weeks after.
Traditionally, women wear elaborate
flamenco dresses and men dress in their
best suits.
The marquees are set up on a permanent
fairground in which each street is named
after a famous bullfighter.
The tapas scene is one of the main cultural
attractions of the city: people go from one bar
to another, enjoying small dishes called tapas
(literally "lids" or "covers" in Spanish, referring
to their probable origin as snacks served in
small plates used to cover drinks.)
Local specialities include fried and grilled
seafood (including squid, choco (cuttlefish),
swordfish, marinated dogfish, and ortiguillas),
grilled and stewed meat, Jamón ibérico, lamb
kidneys in sherry sauce, snails, caldo de
puchero, and gazpacho.
WEATHER
Seville has a Mediterranean climate, with an average
annual temperature of 26 º C in summer and 12 º C in
winter, with soft breezes blowing through the spring
and summer.
The winters are mild and autumn seasons (average
annual rainfall: 534 mm), with higher temperatures
during the summer.
Its nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine throughout the year,
make the climate of Seville can be considered almost
perfect in all seasons
