Attractions
The Bob Marley Museum
The museum is situated on the site of the legendary musician’s home, which he
purchased in 1975. This house, featuring 19th-century architecture, was Marley’s home
until his death in 1981. It was converted into a museum six years later by his wife, Mrs
Rita Marley. The main museum displays Marley’s personal treasures which allows you to
see every aspect of the life of Bob Marley. The property also features a well-equipped 80seat theatre, a photographic gallery, and a gift shop selling T-shirts, posters and CDs and
other Bob Marley memorabilia as well as items from Jamaica. You can also tickle your
palate with sumptuous meals from the Legend Cafe.
8
Port Royal
Dubbed the wickedest city on earth, Port Royal has flourished into a thriving commercial
centre of the new world. While the image of a decadent and lavish city bears some truth,
it obscures a more complex history of English colonisation and the African Slave trade,
of skilled craftsmen as well as crafty men, of formidable forts and awesome gunships, of
urban devastation and preservation – all of which is part of the story of a town whose
sleepy present belies its past of excitement and intrigue.
Spanish Town
The history of Spanish Town is rich and full of culture, Once the Largest city in Jamaica
as well as its capital Spanish Town was the hub of all trade and commerce. Spanish Town
is still the first city in Jamaica.
9
Flatbridge
Flat Bridge itself must be one of the Seven Wonders of Jamaica. With its sudden sharp
turn across the river course, and without protective railing. This Bridge, one of Jamaica’s
oldest, was built sometime before 1774. When it was being constructed, the 16
plantations in the Bog Walk area were obliged to send one slave in every 50 to work on
the River Road, sometimes called Sixteen Mile Walk. Gravel, marl, lime, sand and stone
had to be dug. Slaves often lost their lives as they performed dangerous tasks in the
Gorge. Between 1881 and 1915, the floor of the bridge was washed away and later refloored with iron girders and buckle plates taken from the original flooring of the May
Pen Bridge. Today, the bridge of three spans is supported by two piers and two
abutments. In the 1930s it had metal handrails and later wooden ones, but these were
consumed by the river over the years.
10
Fern Gully
One of Jamaica’s natural wonders, Fern Gully is a winding scenic stretch of road which
starts in Ocho Rios and runs for three miles, ending up in the community of Colgate. The
area gets its name from the wide variety of ferns which grow in the area, towering high
above the road forming a shady tunnel of lush greenery.
The roadway through Fern Gully was established in 1907 when an earthquake destroyed
one of the eight rivers in the Ocho Rios area. The river bed was subsequently paved and
the roadway was established.
11
Ocho Rios
Wrapped around a small bay with postcard-worthy snugness, Ocho Rios is a former
fishing village that the Jamaica Tourist Board developed for tourism in the mid-1980s.
The frequent docking of cruise ships at the central pier that commands the town’s focus
gives ‘Ochi’ a decidedly ‘packaged’ feel, spiced up by the regular entreaties of ‘guides’
and souvenir sellers.
12
Montego Bay
Montego Bay is Jamaica's second city in size and importance, but it is the island's tourism
capital and arguably one of the premier Caribbean resort destinations. The beautiful
seaside city has long been the playground of the world's rich and famous.
Negril
Very little compares to a long, lazy day, soaking up the sun on Negril beaches, except for
putting on your evening wear and feeling the real beat of Jamaica at the top nighttime
spots.
13
Located along Negril's world famous seven-mile stretch of white sand beach,
Margaritaville Negril provides the perfect mix of entertainment options to please
everyone. This property features open air dining under a thatched roof, Tikki beach bar,
two giant water trampolines, giant flat screen TV's, beach cabanas and all day island
music.
14
Rick’s Cafe was the first public bar and restaurant of its type on the West End Cliffs,
offering an alternative to Negril's majestic seven mile beach. From the beginning, Rick's
Cafe boasted an unrivaled view of the sunset from its naturally formed cliffs. Visitors and
locals alike have designated Rick's Cafe as Negril's premier gathering spot and the
sunsets have become a Jamaican tradition.
