GUIDE
FALL / WINTER
2016-2017
PEOPLE
summer and here we are already rolling into winter. We’ve had a great summer with many residents
W
participating in the numerous programs offered. Much focus and attention has been placed on our Parks
elcome to the Fall/Winter 2016 Program Guide. It seems like just yesterday we were talking about
Facilities and playing fields. Our baseball fields are in the best condition they’ve been in for many years.
We’ve received generous support from Streetsboro Junior Baseball to upgrade what we have to offer. Our
new soccer fields are maturing, becoming better and better. We held a very successful 3V3 Live Soccer
Tournament and received raves about our park! We are committed to continuing to improve our entire
park system. Our quest to be the best is a journey and we promise to always move forward. I would be
remiss if I did not thank all of our residents and guests for the continued support of our Parks programs.
Although I’m not happy to think about snow, I do look forward to seeing the many participants in our
winter program offerings. Thank you again for all the support you have shown our Parks and Recreation
Department.
Best Regards,
Mayor Glenn M. Broska
to fall and yes, winter programming too. Before we get to that, I’d like to take the time to recap what
S
the Parks & Recreation Department accomplished this summer.
chool back in session only means one thing ... fall is near! Summer is winding down and our focus shifts
Our Summer Camp continues to grow and our campers enjoyed weekly activities including Tuesday
swims at Woodside Park and field trips on Fridays, such as: Cleveland Natural History Museum, Fun n Stuff,
Lake Farm Park, Waterworks and more. Head Camp Counselor Katelyn Nuber did a wonderful job keeping
the kids busy and the camp organized. If you’re looking for child care next summer consider our camp!
Much needed trail repair has begun at City Park and with the help of Streetsboro Junior Baseball we’ve
installed batting cages in the quad area of the ball fields. We’ve expanded our skate park by adding several
new ramps and rails, and thanks to our local Lowe’s store will be replacing the roof of the pavilion and
repairing/repainting our maintenance garage. We still have plenty of improvements left to accomplish this
year including the addition of a shade structure at Thomas Heritage Park and more. The parks crew works
hard and diligently to keep our parks well maintained and up to date, so if you see them out and about be
sure to tell them what a great job they are doing.
Our biggest announcements are two upcoming special events everyone is sure to enjoy. Our first ever
“Tail” Gating Party at Thomas Heritage Park Sept. 25. Bring your dogs and family to enjoy activities such
as K-9 and agility demonstrations and a football style tailgating lunch. Secondly, significant changes have
been made to the “Santa Comes to Town” program. This year’s event will be ONE day only and gifts will be
delivered
on Saturday, Dec. 17. Mark your calendars accordingly as not to miss these two special events!
Thanks and hope to see you soon,

STREETSBORO YOUTH SPORTS PHILOSOPHY & MISSION
The sports mission of the Streetsboro Parks & Recreation Department is to offer participants the
opportunity to play in youth sports programs and provide a positive athletic experience by fulfilling needs
for physical activity, social interaction, fun, and skill development.
We are dedicated to the Player Rating System and making teams as BALANCED as possible. Our youth
sports teams are formed using a random draft process based on age, grade and experience. A child
moving up must have played at least one year in the league they wish to move up from. It never hurts to
ask ... special requests, including roster placement and level advancement, will be taken into consideration,
but are not guaranteed, since this would take away from the purpose of the drafting system.
Thanks for your support.
