Year End
Report
I never really mind cutting the grass. It’s one of the few things I do that I
can see where I’ve been. I think it’s always encouraging to know where I’ve
been and celebrate in that. Looking back on 2015, I want to share with
you a few points of celebration...

DAVIS
CUP
As you well know, Christmas is a
very busy time in the life of our
church. With the hustle and bustle
over the past several months, there
has been one person that has served
unselfishly around the church. The
lovely lady we speak of is our Davis
Cup Recipient, Hazel Ferguson. Hazel has
cleaned the robe room several times, polished the
pews in the Sanctuary, painted our bathroom
outside of the choir room, donated the ironwork in
the choir room and hallway, made all of our men’s
vests and angel robes presentable for the West
Cobb Christmas Celebration, and she sings in the
choir. Thank you Hazel, for giving your time to help
us prepare to usher in this season.

God calls us to be good stewards
with our money. Part of that
process is setting a budget.
Our church does that as well.
We are striving to stay within
our budget by emailing newsletters. The money that
we save by doing this can be used in other ministries
to strengthen their programs. In this new year, please
consider having your newsletter emailed to you. All you
need to do is email Deb Koebbe at dkoebbe@duewest.org,
with your correct email address, and we will add you to our growing e-mail newsletter list.

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the
saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ…”Ephesians 3:17b-18
Lost Sheep - January 2016
Bible Story:
Key Verse:
Main Idea:
Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15:1-7)
Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep. (Luke 15:4)
God seeks out all who are lost.
Jesus used parables to teach us about God. He told a simple story of a shepherd with 100 sheep who leaves
99 behind to look for one that is lost. When finding the lost sheep he calls for a celebration amongst his
friends and neighbors. Our elementary children (K-5th) will be rotating through a variety of workshops learning
how God’s love for us is so great that he seeks us out when we are “lost” and rejoices when we are “found.”
In each workshop, the Bible story will be read and then the children will do an activity to reinforce the story. In
Creation Station (crafts), the children will make sheep and discover how easy it is for them to know which is
theirs because they created it - just like God created them and knows them. They will draw a picture in Divine Design Art Studio
(art) that will show how God knows them and hears them whether they are at home with their family or in a crowd of 2000 people.
There will be lots of “sheep” games in Rock Solid Academy (Bible skills), Moved by the Spirit (active games) and
Soulfishers.Net (computer lab) as the children learn both the Bible story and the books of the New Testament. Journey Land
(science/social studies) will have a lesson on sheep and their behaviors. The Lost is Found will be shown in Sower’s Cinema
(movie theater). Our story will presented as a skit in Acts of the Apostles (drama) and using music in Joyful Noise (music).
In January, our preschoolers will also learn the parable of the lost sheep and discover how much God loves each and every one of
us. They will play games searching for the lost sheep and act out the story as they "baa" until the shepherd finds every little sheep.
Watch for fluffy cotton ball sheep and marshmallow lambs!
Come and join in on the fun and learning! Faith Quest Sunday School is held during the 9:39 and 11:00 services in the North
Campus building. All of our children (preschool – 5th grade) check-in just inside the “sunflower doors”.
Created by God
Our 5th and 6th graders are invited to participate
in Created by God, a program where parents and
church partner to prepare preteens with a healthy, faithful
understanding of human sexuality. The study will be held
January 14-17, 2016. Register online at

God…made the world. (Acts 17:24)
The kids in CHILDREN’S CHURCH will
be spending January thanking God for
the world He made and the wonderful
gifts He has given us –things that we
can see, taste, feel, and hear. There
will be games and crafts and stories…and lots of fun!
Children’s Church meets during all three services. Children
(age 3 – kindergarten) are invited to attend. At the traditional
services, children are dismissed from the service following
the Children’s Message. At the contemporary service, the
children leave with the pastor following the first song.
Parents, please remember to check-in with the
Children’s Church Leader before the service
begins and get a nametag for your child.

Join us each Sunday Night for IGNITE! Youth will meet in the downstairs
Youth Center at 6:00 pm to hang out before we get things started with
a combined Middle School & High School worship. We are bringing
back Domino’s Pizza for the time being (until everyone gets tired of the taste, then we’ll move onto something
different)! Pizza is $1 per slice. Also, we have smoothies for $3, but they are “on the house” for first time guests
and the friend that brought them! Both the MS and HS programs will run from 6:30-8:00 pm. Wes Anderson and
Tony Nochim will be switching off each week between the MS & HS Youth. They’ll be starting a 5-week series on
"The Truth of Christ and the Lies of this World." After a short sermon, the youth will go deeper into what was
talked about with small groups and other means of discussion. We close out the night with different games! IGNITE WILL START BACK UP AGAIN AFTER THE HOLIDAYS ON JANUARY 10! THE FIRST IGNITE OF 2016 WILL BE A SPECIAL IGNITE, FEATURING THE ATLANTA DREAM CENTER’S

opportunity to learn more about Due
West’s ministries and programs, as
well as United Methodist history and
basic beliefs. This two-week class will meet at 4:00-5:30 pm
in the S. Campus Room S219 on January 17th & 24th.
Child care will be provided. Contact Kim Kramer at
kkramer@duewest.org if you plan to attend.
We’re all ready to get back to school
after the long Christmas holidays.
It’s so good to come back and see our
friends and teachers again. Our
themes for the ones-young fives are
winter and transportation during January and the Bible story is
Jesus' trip to the temple and the verse is "God made the winter.”
The Kindergarten class will study rocks and the Bible story of
Jonah and the whale. We talk about and experience
transportation in Jesus' time as well as our own and have fun
making "snow" pictures and crafts. Hopefully we’ll get some
real snow! The four and young five-year-olds focus on a western
theme for the month including a field trip to the Booth Western
Art Museum and ending with a rodeo day full of fun activities
and sitting around the “campfire.” Shawn Brown and his
“Super Fun Show” will come to the Family Life Center for the
threes, fours, and five-year-olds. It really is super fun with lots
of singing, dancing, and using our imaginations! The three and
four-year-olds from Macland Presbyterian Preschool join us
each year for this program. The dads of the three, four, five, and
kindergarten classes are invited to join us before school one day
for "Doughnuts with Dads.” The children are always thrilled to
show their dads their classroom, make a craft with them, and eat
doughnuts and orange juice before dad has to go to work. We
will hold our third Preschool Preview Night on January 19th
6:15-7:30 pm so that current and prospective parents can see our
school, meet the staff and ask questions about our program.
New families can register their children for 2016-17 that night.
Parents can call for a tour before or after that night and register
in the preschool office if it’s after the 19th.
If you are interested in the preschool for your child contact
Karen Coffeen @ 770-590-0982 or kcoffeen@duewest.org if
you have any questions or would like to schedule a tour.
PRESCHOOL PREVIEW AND REGISTRATION FOR 2016-2017
It’s time to start thinking about preschool for the next school year! The Due West Preschool Ministry will hold
a Preschool Preview on Tuesday, January 19th. We’ll start registration at 6:15 pm in the Narthex and the
preschool rooms will have staff members there to explain our program from 6:30-7:30 pm. You are invited to
come to see our school, meet the staff, and ask us any questions you have about our program. You can also
register your child that night while you’re here! If you can’t come that night, you can schedule a tour
during a school day and register your child while you’re here (after the 19th).
The preschool has classes for children ages 4 months through Kindergarten. Children are placed in the classes based on their age
on September 1, 2016. The classes are held from two to five days a week, depending on the age of the child. Infants through two year
olds attend school 9:00 am-12:00 pm with an optional extra hour. Three, four, and five-year-olds attend 9:00 am-1:00 pm. Kindergarten

speak about their mission trips to Kenya. They have seen
firsthand the poverty and lack of family stability that
plague the orphan children of Kenya. The Hoover’s
will share their experience and the love they
have for these children. If you have any questions,
please contact Lew Amick at llamick@hotmail.com.
2015-16 College Scholarships in
Conjunction with United Methodist
Dollars for Scholars Program
The United Methodist Men’s Ministry will
not only continue to offer the traditional
$1000.00 Phil McGuire Memorial College
Scholarships next spring, but will now be
awarding scholarships specifically to students enrolled at
or planning to attend United Methodist affiliated colleges
or universities. This scholarship will be awarded in
January, 2016, and has a potential value of $4000.
The first step in the process is to apply for the $1000
scholarship from the DWUMM, available only to DWUMC
members. For applications, go to www.duewest.org.
Click on Connect then Adults and Men’s Ministries.
This application must be returned to the church office
by January 15, 2016. Applicants will be advised of their
selection by February 1, 2016.
If selected, the second step in the process will be to apply
to the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation for
an additional $3000 in scholarship funds. This application
is found at www.umhef.org/UMDFSapp.php and must be
submitted by March 1, 2016. Please contact Tom Jackson at
678-355-0464 for any questions on this process.
The UMM will continue to award their traditional $1000
scholarships in the late spring to select candidates not
attending United Methodist affiliated colleges/universities.
That application will be available in the spring.
