Synopsis:
Jellystone Park has been losing business, so conniving Mayor Brown has decided to shut
it down and sell the land. Faced with the loss of his home, Yogi Bear and Boo Boo join
forces with Ranger Smith to find a way to save the park from closing forever.

Before seeing the film
1. Jellystone Park, where Yogi Bear lives, takes its name from Yellowstone National Park
in America. Use the internet (e.g. www.yellowstonepark.com) to research this real park
and look for answers to the following questions:
zz What wildlife can you find in Yellowstone?
zz What natural wonders would you find there?
zz What can people see and do when they visit?
2. Use your research to list all the different wildlife that live in Yellowstone. A list can be
found at http://yellowstonepark.com/natural-wonders/wildlife/
zz Group the animals into their habitats, mountain, meadow and streams.
zz Define the following terms as a class: predator, prey, scavenger, herbivore,
carnivore and omnivore.
zz Link these terms to animals you listed.
3. Yogi and Boo Boo love food and can’t help stealing picnic baskets. Why not have
picnics at your local park? It could be part of your day trip to the cinema. Children can
prepare food and plan a menu for their baskets. As a class, consider the different food
groups and what makes a balanced, healthy diet. Make sure the basket provides food
from each group, protein, carbohydrates, fats and fibre.
After seeing the film
1. To help attract tourists to Jellystone (or Yellowstone) Park think of ways to advertise
the park to sightseers and families. Look back at your research about Yellowstone
National Park. What features of the park might be of interest to holidaymakers? Create
a persuasive information leaflet that provides tourists with everything they need to
know.
2. Think about your own local park. Does it need improving? Do the right people use it
and take care of it? Take action and write a letter to the council to make suggestions
for how the park could be improved and attract more people. Is littering a problem?
Create a persuasive poster to encourage people to put their discarded food packaging
in the bins provided.
3. The film features a character called Rachel, a documentary filmmaker who wants to
show Yogi and Boo Boo in their natural habitat. Explore the habitats in and around your
school and create a film about the mini-beasts and wildlife that you discover. Watch TV
nature-documentaries to get ideas for writing voiceover narration.
