Communication Solution
WYNDHAM CLINIC PRIVATE HOSPITAL
A complete Nursecall, Messaging and Wireless
Communication Solution
Wyndham clinic is a brand new purpose built
medical facility, in Melbourne’s West located
20 kilometres out from Melbourne CBD.
The hospital features 30 suites with over 30
primary health services and is equipped with
quality facilities including a broad range of
inpatient mental health facilities and day
programs.
Wyndham clinic has achieved accreditations
for the new National Standards for Mental Health
Services along with Quality Management Systems
(QMS) and National Safety and Quality Health
Service Standards (NSHQS).
The clinic was established to help make accessing
quality healthcare easier for the people of the
Wyndham community.
The Challenge
Ascom was required to deliver an all-in-one solution to provide nurse-patient
communication. This needed to include the delivery of a nursecall system that
would easily integrate with wireless handsets. The handsets were required to
page, raise alarms and receive messages from the nursecall system.
Further to this, the management team at Wyndham Clinic identified the
following key requirements;
Supply and installation of a nursecall system with duress buttons to raise alarms
Provide a campus-wide cordless communication system and campus wide
duress system that will have the ability to raise multiple alarms.
Duress system needs to have the capability to send out zone based locations
when alarm is raised.
Alarms are to trigger and place an open channel call, this will allow live audio
from the event to be listened to by others and the appropriate response can be
actioned.
A handset that will remain consistent across the whole fleet and offers
increased durability and robustness.
The solution must integrate with the nursecall system, so that notifications are
immediately broadcast out to staff. Additional integration with the fire panel
and gate control system are also required.
Visualisation of alerts and alarms in certain areas.
Ascom “Power of One” Solution
Ascom was able to offer the complete nursecall, messaging and wireless
communication solution. The ability to offer a full solution from the one
manufacturer allows seamless integration and functionality to help

Nursecall Unit
Ascom Unite Application
Nurse Call system
Utilising the latest in IP technology the system simplifies communication
between patients and staff via its comprehensive range of call types,
alarm handling software, nurse specific identification and two-way speech
options.
The Ascom nursecall enables prompt and efficient response as patients
can call directly from the bedside to the nurse, who can then ask what the
patient needs before sending someone bedside. An alarm can also
be sent to the nurse if the patient needs assistance. Additional corridor
lamps installed outside the room that communicates, signals and controls
the room’s activities as well as audio devices for emergency communication.
Ascom D62 Handsets
D62 handsets were deployed to provide staff with an easy-to-use
device, providing a simple messaging, calling and duress solution that
is necessary in high-stress situations.
Duress
Once a duress alarm is raised, a message is automatically broadcast out
to staff detailing the identity of the unit and its location, while also
letting them know which type of alarm was raised (assistance request/
duress alarm/ man-down alarm).
Application
The application manages the receipt, display, distribution, escalation and
logging of critical alarms and messages. The addition of a speech module
allows for open channel speech capablitities for better response
co-ordination between staff and management.
