17th TANA Conference Theme and Logo
After a long and thorough research and analysis, the Steering committee unanimously
accepted " ాంక క కాసం - ాంస ృ క
సం" “Technological Innovation-Cultural
Celebration” as the theme for the 17th TANA Conference to be held July 2-4, 2009 at the
Rosemont Convention Center, Chicago.
Since its inception in 1978, TANA’s main focus has been on preserving, propagating and
sharing our rich Telugu cultural, literary and spiritual heritage in this adopted homeland.
‘Our Youth are our heritage’ is inscribed under TANA logo. It truly reflects the ideals of the
forefathers of TANA to encourage our offspring to assimilate and adapt our traditions and
values we cherish so much. As many of us have witnessed over the last three decades,
TANA and its biennial conferences have highlighted those elements of our culture that are
ingrained in our upbringing.
Our younger Diasporas have successfully acquired praiseworthy skills in arts, languages,
business and lately, information technology. These new avenues brought name, fame and
prosperity to our families and to our motherland. In order to acknowledge and recognize
the astonishing accomplishments of this generation, we chose ‘Technological
Innovation’. The upper half of our logo includes the now famous sculpture ‘Cloud Gate’
(aka the Bean) located in the beautiful Millennium Park of Chicago designed by an Indian
born artist, Anish Kapoor. According to the city tourism estimates, it is the most
photographed landmark in Chicago. The ‘Bean’ is a reflection (no pun intended) of the
consummate skills where art and technology are at their best.
‘You can take a person out of a country, but you cannot take the country out of a person’.
We keep our traditional values and ethnic heritage close to our heart, no matter how far or
how long we are away from our ‘roots’. We will never stop celebrating our culture. Hence
‘Cultural Celebration’ is an integral part of the theme. Our Telugu heritage is rooted not
only in visual arts and crafts, but also richly in education, literature, philosophy, religion,
social and political reform. The logo fittingly includes the venerable statue of Gowthama
Buddha in the serene Hussain Sagar Lake.
We like to emphasize the concept of the theme to be different from a slogan, as we
diligently try to carry the essence of the theme throughout the conference.
We thank all the people that sent in great suggestions, the distillation of which resulted in
the evolution of the current Theme and Logo for the 17th TANA Conference in Chicago.
