Holy Communion Practice: All baptized believers are welcome at the table. Children who
have not yet received instruction for Holy Communion are asked to fold their hands to receive a
blessing from the pastor. Often we receive communion by intinction: receive the wafer from the pastor,
then dip (intinct) it in the chalice of wine or grape juice, and consume it. Gluten-free communion wafers
with individual cups of wine ar e available fr om the pastor ; please ask the pastor when it is your
turn. Welcome to the table of the Lord where we receive forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation.
We Welcome children in our worship service. There are activity bags on a stand in the
Gathering Space that can be used during worship. If your child(ren) needs to leave, please use the
Gathering Space area. The Worship Service can be heard from this area. The children’s area has a table
and chairs with toys in the far right cabinet on the south wall. Return to the sanctuary at any time. We
don’t expect children to be perfect and we are glad that you and your child(ren) have come today to
worship.

C: We renounce them.
P: Do you believe in God the Father?
C: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
P:Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
C: I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.*
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
P: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
C: I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

daughters and sons new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise them to eternal life. Sustain
Dominic with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of
counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your
presence, both now and forever.
C: Amen.
P: Dominic, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of
Christ forever. C: Amen.
P: Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father
in heaven.
C: Dominic, we welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share:
join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God's creative and redeeming word
to all the world.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
P: O God of life, you reach out to us amid our fears with the wounded hands of your risen Son. By
your Spirit’s breath revive our faith in your mercy, and strengthen us to be the body of your Son,
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now
and forever.
C: Amen.
ANTHEM
The Love Behind the Cross
FIRST LESSON
Acts 5:27-32
Sanctuary Choir
27 When they had brought [the apostles,] they had them stand before the council. The high priest
questioned them, 28 saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have
filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us.” 29
But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than any human authority. 30 The
God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. 31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has
given to those who obey him.”
L: The Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
PSALM 118:14-17, 22-23,28-29 (We pray responsively)
L: The Lord is my strength | and my song,
and has become | my salvation.
C: Shouts of rejoicing and salvation echo in the tents | of the righteous:
“The right hand of the | Lord acts valiantly!
16 The right hand of the Lord| is exalted!
The right hand of the | Lord acts valiantly!”
17 I shall not | die, but live,
and declare the works | of the Lord.
22 The stone that the build- | ers rejected
has become the chief | cornerstone.
23 By the Lord has | this been done;
it is marvelous | in our eyes.
28 You are my God, and | I will thank you;
you are my God, and I | will exalt you.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for the | Lord is good;
God’s mercy en- | dures forever. Amen.
[Please stand as you are able]

P: The Holy Gospel according to John chapter 20.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the
disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said,
“Peace be with you.” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the
sins of any, they are retained.” 24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was
not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But
he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of
the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were again in
the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among
them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my
hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28 Thomas answered
him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen
me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.” 30 Now Jesus did many
other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 But these are
written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that
through believing you may have life in his name.

HOLY MEAL
P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread,
and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
C: Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.
