Singing the Faith is sensitive to our heritage, but also to today’s fellowships through its careful arrangement of classic and contemporary styles. Coventry Central Hall “It’s such an encouragement to hear that people are praying and to know that there are so many people using the handbook.” Andy Dye, mission partner, Grenada Light and Hope celebrates signs of hope in the Church, the world, our communities and our lives. The title comes from the hymn May the God of hope go with us every day (Singing the Faith 411). Each new edition of the Methodist Prayer Handbook connects Christians from different times, places and walks of life. Classic prayers are interwoven with new contributions from Methodists across the districts and around the world. Arranged as a 31-day prayer cycle, the Handbook also includes a daily lectionary with a suggested hymn (from Singing the Faith) to accompany and guide you through the year. Eminently suitable for individuals as well as groups, churches are free to use the prayers in public worship and reproduce up to ten in newsletters during the year, providing acknowledgement is given. Like any compass it relates to a particular map and the one intended is Christian discipleship in the Methodist Church. It looks not just to the foundation stones of Christian faith, but also to the experience of our Methodist heritage which has shaped our present understanding. It is intended as a guide on the journey of faith that will appeal to the beginner and also the welltravelled. The course offers a process of learning, an opportunity for sharing and the vehicle for deepening faith. At all points there is the chance to discuss, reflect and question in the context of a small group. The final session (Called by name) makes Compass suitable for those exploring membership. The sessions: “The Compass course gave me the structure to examine my faith and the companionship to discuss issues of faith in an encouraging setting.” • Glimpses of God “I found Compass very inspiring, enabling me to grow in both knowledge and confidence whilst looking at my faith and beliefs.” • Life together Trustees of the MCCMCA • Meeting Jesus today • The difference Jesus makes • Empowered by the Holy Spirit • Engaging with Scripture • Following Jesus • Called by name Leader’s Guide Autumn 2013 • www.methodist.org.uk/compass Note: Free electronic download only via link above. Mission Mission 28 fundraising Easter Offering 2014 new edition The title of the Easter Offering for 2014 is “Risk the path he trod” which is taken from The Revd Rosemary Wakelin’s hymn “One human family God has made” (Singing the Faith 687). Risk is at the heart of the Christian gospel; the call to follow the Risen Christ from incarnation, along the path to the cross and beyond, requires us to take risks. Christian mission has always involved risk. This Easter Offering service invites us to “risk the path he trod” in our own situations and as part of our world church family. As in previous years, it has been developed and organised in conjunction with Methodist Women in Britain. Money raised by the Easter Offering supports the World Mission Fund. 2014 Order of Service January 2014 • c.6pp 210 x 148mm • Pack of ten GE305 • £2.50 PowerPoint Presentation Leader’s Notes (Welsh) Collection Envelope January 2014 • c.8pp 297 x 210mm • Pack of ten January 2013 • 152 x 102mm GE306 • £2.50 Promotional Bookmark (Welsh) Collection Envelope (Welsh) January 2013 • 152 x 102mm GE309 • Free Collection Envelope (Euro) January 2013 • 125 x 100mm GE308 • Free When ordering collection envelopes you will receive the same quantity of the Promotional Bookmark (GE311). This study of John Wesley offers a detailed, critical evaluation of his complex relationship with his Mother Church. It covers his upbringing in Epworth to his old age, when he affirmed, “In the church I will live and die, unless I am thrust out”. The Making of Methodism Reasonable Enthusiast John Wesley and the rise of Methodism 3rd Edition Henry D Rack “Clearly the finest biography of the founder of Methodism written by an English scholar this century.” Methodist Recorder Reasonable Enthusiast sets John Wesley and Methodism against the background of the time, so that the political, social and religious influences on the growing Methodist movement can be appreciated. Full attention is also paid to contemporary figures: not only Charles Wesley and George Whitefield, but also the Moravians and others whose movements influenced Methodism, both positively and negatively. The key strength of this far-reaching biography is its honest portrayal of a complex man; John Wesley himself emerges as a truly human figure. 2002 • 658pp • 230 x 156mm Paperback EP107 • £25 Please note: Delivery times for some Epworth Press titles will be longer than 72 hours.
