Sandy Coatney, Athletic Director It's the end of the year, with baseball, softball and track underway. We wish those athletes all the best, and hope for their success. Looking back, the girls basketball team had a great year, as did several of the wrestlers. The boys basketball team, a very young team, had a growth year. They didn't have a whole lot of wins, but they gained a lot of skill and experience. Our annual athletics fundraiser, the Tut Harville Athletics BBQ and raffle, will be at the Boathouse in Nice on Sunday May 17th from 11:30 to 5:00pm. Tickets are $14.00 for adults and $7.00 for children. All proceeds go to purchase athletics gear for the high school teams - this year we were able to buy new football uniforms, basketball uniforms and track uniforms. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each, and include prizes like baseball tickets, dinner at Robinson Rancheria or Running Creek, free golf, and many other donations from local businesses. Please come out and support our athletes! Turning to next year, it is very important that several things get taken care of before next fall. First, students need to keep their grades up - students need a minimum of a 2.0 GPA, with 20 credits, to play sports. Athletes need to get a physical every year, and summer is a great time to get that done. Athletes also need to be to class on time; if an athlete is tardy three times in one week, that athlete will be ineligible to play sports the following week. Finally, a note about health. It is getting warmer, so athletes really need to pay attention to nutrition and hydration. Drink water! Drink water all the time; it is the best way to beat heat injuries. Water is much better than sugary sports drinks that have as much sugar as soda. Try adding a couple ounces of juice/sports drink to a liter or water instead; that will provide a little flavor without all the sugar. Lastly, we could use some volunteer help with both boys and girls soccer. Interested? You will need to get fingerprinted, TB assessed, have a valid driver's license, current CPR and First Aid certificates, and take a class on concussions and coaching. -Sandy Coatney 2 **SENIOR PAGE** Seniors, I would like to take this time to congratulate you and wish you well in your future endeavors. Students should have a 90-100% attendance rate. This is the first step to success. If they are attending school on a regular basis, we have more contact with them and have the time to cover the curriculum. If a student misses school, trying to catch up in seven classes becomes very difficult. 6 Upper Lake Union High School Lunch Menu May 2015 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday 4 Chinese Chicken w/Brown Rice Garden Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 5 Tamales, Beans Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 6 Mac & Cheese Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 7 Pizza Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 8 Chef Choice Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 11 Chicken Tacos w/beans Garden salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 12 Chinese Chicken Garden Salad w/spinach & shredded Carrots Brown Rice Fresh Fruit Milk 13 Cold Cut Sandwich Garden Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 14 Pizza Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk 15 Chef Choice Garden Salad Mixed Fruit Milk 18 Spaghetti Garden Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 19 Chinese Chicken Fresh Salad w/spinach, carrots Fresh Fruit Milk 20 Cold Cut Sandwich Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk 21 Pizza Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk 22 Chef Choice Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk 25 No School 26 **Chef Choice Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk 27 **Chef Choice Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk 28 **Chef Choice Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk 29 **Chef Choice Garden Salad Fresh Fruit Milk **Due to the short schedule and the uncertainty of availability of product, the lunch menu will be “Chef’s Choice” UPPER LAKE UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFERS FREE BREAKFAST & LUNCH TO ALL STUDENTS How can you help your child eat right?
