I had moved to this small market town in North Yorkshire just two weeks before. And just one week before, I had started my new job with the local newspaper. They had made me the new sports editor and my photo had appeared in the newspaper for the first time the day before. I was late when I entered the cinema, but the lights were still on in the main hall and the film hadn’t started. As I walked to an empty seat, the people in the cinema stood up. They clapped and cheered and one woman even patted me on the back. I was very surprised. I didn’t think that I had become so popular in only a few days. I turned around and bowed and made a short speech: “Thank you. Thank you all. I feel very honoured.” oured Pete Oldham: Englisch an Stationen Klasse 7 © Auer Verlag, AAP Lehrerfachverlage GmbH, Augsburg Some people laughed and others just looked puzzled. After the film the ticket assistant told ld me tthe real reason for my popularity. Just before I entered the cinema, the manager had made an announcement. They had only sold cement. The nineteen tickets for the film, but there had to be at least twenty people present before show the film. The e he would sho people already in the cinema had complained, so he had agreed to wait for fifteen minutes cancelling the film teen mi utes before canc and giving them their money back. Then he had stood at the door looking watch and calling out g at his watc o the minutes. I had bought my ticket exactly fourteen minutes and fifty-five seconds later. er. 11 Impressum © 2015 Auer Ve Verlag rlag AAP Lehrerfachverlage hrerfachv rlage GmbH Alle Rechte echte vorbehalten. vorb alten.
