It is also about the reconciliation of living in a bungalow as opposed to living in a high-rise condominium. Pa r k S e v e n h a s b e e n d e s i g n e d a s “ b u n g a l o w s i n t h e s k y ”. The 7 rectilinear shaped units per floor are planned radially in two interconnected clusters each served by a central core for maximum external views, natural light and ventilation. The full height laminated glazing is protected by horizontal ledges acting as sun and rain breakers augmented by low-E glass on the eastern and western facades. Th e s t r u c t u r a l d e s i g n h a s b e e n i n t e g r a t e d c l o s e l y w i t h the architecture to achieve column free interiors and flat slab construction for optimal ceiling height and flexibility in C o n c ep tu a l S ke t c he s p l a n n i n g . Th e l a n d s c a p e d e s i g n i s a r e c o g n i t i o n o f t h e architectural modernism and place as well as respect for the integrity of materials used. Th e m a i n c o m m u n a l a n d r e c r e a t i o n a l f a c i l i t i e s a r e p l a n n e d on the landscaped roof of the g round floor car park podium as a double volume breezeway featuring the lap and heated swimming pools, ponds, coloured glass screens and glazed pavilions enclosing the gymnasium, yoga / pilates, multip u r p o s e r o o m a n d c h i l d r e n ’s p l a y a r e a . Th e m a t e r i a l s u s e d f o r c o n s t r u c t i o n a r e l e f t e x p o s e d a s m u c h a s p r a c t i c a b l e i n t h e i r n a t u r a l s t a t e . Th e r e i n f o r c e d concrete structure is exposed and impregnated with a water r e p e l l e n t s o l u t i o n . Th e a l u m i n i u m f r a m e d g l a z i n g s y s t e m is natural anodized. Galvanized steel gabions with selected stone are used as external feature walls, rolled and perforated s t e e l s h e e t s f o r e n t r a n c e g a t e s . Th e s e l a ndm a rks l o c a t e i t s r e s i d e n t s a s b e i n g i n t h e c e n t e r o f e v e r y - t h i n g , t h e center of a p l a c e . I t a l so spe a k s o f c a l m n e s s . Th e r e is a wonder ful openness on this floor that speaks of understated g race, o p e n spa ce w i th v i e w s b e y o n d t o p r o v i d e a f e e l i n g o f u n o b s t r u c t e d f r e e d o m . There i s a s o f t s u b l i m e g r e e n n e s s t h a t p r e v a i l s t h r o u g h o u t a l l w i t h i n the contex t o f a l a n d s c a p e t h a t m a k e s o n e f e e l a s t h o u g h o n e w e r e fl oa ti ng , pe r h a p s , h o v e r i n g a b o v e t h e m a n y w a t e r t e r r a c e s w i t h i t s tra nqui l a n d p e a c e f u l q u a l i t i e s . Pa rk Seven a l s o s p e a k s o f s i m p l i c i t y w i t h i n t e g r i t y. E v e r y element is designed to be both honest in its intent and trueness in materials. It speaks of a “rawness” that bares a truth that is seen in the character of every-thing that makes up Park Seven. The concrete finishes of the building, th e g l a s s feature walls, the stone seats and water features; the bronze ar tworks have, each, been carefully selected with a high level of design care to enhance the environment in a meaning ful way. O f speci a l no t e a r e t h e s c u l p t u r e s c h o s e n f o r Pa r k S e v e n . “Light Through Bronze” speaks of both light and an openness of spirit. The work suggests that light is the more powerful force capable of penetrating bronze but it does so in a harmonious balance of mass and void. A hollow that speaks as strong as the surrounding form creates a sense of ca l m nes s a n d r e c e p t i v e n e s s t o i t s v i e w e r. “Listening” is less about speaking and more about the act of listening. In 1964, the c ompa ny’s na m e w a s cha ng ed to S e l a n g o r Dr e d g i n g Berhad upon listing on the m a i n boa rd of the Ku a l a L u m p u r S toc k Exc hange. In the sa m e y ear, Sel a ng or D redg i ng m a de hi sto r y w h e n i t b egan c onstruc tin g i ts fi rst dredg e, becom i ng the f i r s t M a l a y s i a n m i n i n g com pany to opera te a dredg e.
