Program for the Cambridge University Certificate
Anglo American Law and International
Legal English (ILEC)
November 2014-June 2015
General overview
Anglo american law
Firms, legal consultancy offices and companies’ legal departments
demand professionals who guarantee their knowledge of legal
English with a high quality training program.
Participants will be given training in 10 areas of knowledge in
connection with Anglo-American legal procedures and legal skills
for lawyers.
The Centro de Estudios Garrigues, with the assistance of the
European Legal Studies Center of Columbia Law School,
New York, offers the possibility of obtaining the Certificate
in Anglo-American Law by attending the module designed
to study the fundamental aspects of common law and the basic
legal aspects of international relations.
Keynote practitioner speakers, “who have been there and done it”,
will offer significant insight into the practical nature of giving
legal advice in an international context.
In order to complete the training in legal English and ensure that
participants learn, as well as receive an official certificate, the
program has another module with the objective of training
participants in the different areas of legal English in order
to obtain the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC)
issued by the University of Cambridge.

Testimonials
“It was a wonderful and rewarding experience
to participate in ILEC preparation course at
CE Garrigues. Not only did my legal English
skills
improve (besides my overall
understanding of the anglo-saxon legal
system), but it was also a pleasure this spend
this time with experienced lawyers
specialized in different fields of the law. In the end, we all had a great
time together and I passed the exam with an
overall mark of “C1 with merit”!

“The ILEC program offers an extended and
exhaustive view of legal English, providing
more insight than a dictionary or legal
glossary ever can. Not only does it give an indepth knowledge of the Anglo-Saxon legal
system, magnificently explained by the
professors, it also tackles the most common
mistakes when trying to express yourself in legal English. Having the
opportunity to attend this program has improved my knowledge of
English twofold and has given me much more confidence in the
language in a legal context.”
