Mission Statement & Objectives
of the Ilderton Agricultural Society
Mission Statement: The Ilderton Agricultural Society is committed to celebrating our community, our
achievements in agriculture, creative arts and our rural lifestyle.
The Objectives of the Ilderton Agricultural Society are to encourage an awareness of agriculture and to
promote improvements in the quality of life of persons living in our community by:
• researching the needs of the agricultural community and developing programs to meet those needs
• holding agricultural exhibitions featuring competitions for which prizes may be awarded
• promoting the conservation of natural resources
• encouraging the beautification of the agricultural community
• supporting and providing facilities to encourage activities intended to enrich rural life
The Ilderton Agricultural Society is a registered charitable organization and will issue
receipts for income tax purposes for donations over $25.00 upon request.

Clare Bloomfield – 2016 IAS President
Welcome to the 165th Ilderton Fair. Each year as we start planning for the next fair, I
get excited as to what we can do better and how can we bring more people to see the best
agricultural fair in the area. We cannot operate our fair without the assistance of over 350
volunteers. This is what makes it such an integral part of our community.
For 2016, we have a variety of vendors, exhibits, horse, cattle, sheep and swine shows.
We have a wide range of farm equipment, new cars, trucks and SUVs on display. We are very
pleased with Campbell Amusements as our midway provider. The fair has a great selection
of food vendors to entice your palette, along with breakfast on Sunday morning served by the
Ilderton Fireman Association.
Come early on Saturday morning to participate in our hour long parade down the main steet of
Ilderton. Many bands, local clubs, businesses and churches are represented in this event.

I would like to welcome everyone to the 165th Ilderton Fall Fair. The Ilderton Fair is volunteer
driven and thanks to these volunteers the Fair has flourished over the years.
The tradition of the Fall Fair provides a venue where talented hard working people can show
their quality livestock, crops, vegetables, flowers, handwork and many other items to fairgoers,
friends and neighbours. Ilderton fairgoers, young and old, have fond memories of past fairs
where they have exhibited or enjoyed viewing the entries.
After many years, I am still excited about the fair and what it means to my own family and
friends. The excitement of participating in the competitions and events at the fair each year
never gets old. The Ilderton Fair has been a blessing to our community!
Join us at the Ilderton Fair to celebrate our neighbours from both the rural and urban
communities we live in! I look forward to seeing you there!

2015 Ilderton Fair Ambassador
Colleen Crunican
I am beyond honoured to have played the role as Fair Ambassador at the 164th Ilderton Fall
Fair. Despite the questionable weather, the fair was another huge success with many exciting
changes. A new midway and the Mini Rod Tractor Pull added new memories to a fair that is
full of traditions.
My favourite fair traditions include watching the animal shows, viewing the entries in the
homecraft arena and participating in and watching the special events on Saturday. This year, my
highlight of the fair was the parade. I had such a great time watching everyone come together to
enjoy the creative and fun floats. Sitting on the back of a convertible was also a great touch!
Being the Fair Ambassador has meant so much to me. I have met many amazing people; from
other Fair Ambassadors all around Ontario to many inspiring individuals in our very own
community of Ilderton. I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of making my
journey of Ambassador so wonderful. I have had an amazing year and have been extremely
proud to represent our community of Ilderton.

Ilderton Fair Ambassador Competition
Thursday, August 25, 2016
Located at the Ilderton Community Centre starting at 7:30 p.m.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 24 as of December 31, 2016.
2. Contestants must be single at the time of the Competition.
3. Contestants must have lived within a 20 km radius of the town of Ilderton for at least 6 months
prior to the Competition.
4. Previous winners of the Competition are not eligible.
5. Previous participants of the "C.N.E. Ambassador of the Fairs" Competition are not eligible.
6. Contestants will be judged on the basis of personality, appearance, deportment and a personal
interview including possible questions concerning the Ilderton Agricultural Fair.
7. Contestants will be expected to give a short speech at the time of judging.
8. A winner and a runner-up will be chosen and each contestant will receive a memento of the occasion.
9. The winner will be required to represent the Ilderton Agricultural Society throughout the fair weekend, during the next year at various events (including the O.A.A.S. Convention in February), and to compete in the "C.N.E. Ambassador of the Fairs" Competition in August. The winner will reign until a new representative is chosen the following year.
10. Each sponsor will be asked to include a registration fee of $50.00 with the entry form.
This fee is used to help defray the costs of the Competition.

CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Contestants must be 4 – 7 years of age at time of competition.
2. Entrants must live within a 20 kilometre radius of Ilderton.
3. Contestants will be asked to appear on stage giving their name, age, and what they like most about the Ilderton Fair.
4. Winners will be drawn on the night of the Ambassador Competition.
5. Winners must be available Saturday of the fair weekend to ride in the parade and make a few appearances
at special events during the day.

Grade 3 students from local and city schools will travel to Ilderton to attend the Agriculture Awareness
Program on Thursday, September 29, 2016. Students will learn about Agriculture in their community,
how to milk a cow and even see an Agri-Magic show!

Rules & Regulations
ATTENTION ALL EXHIBITORS: EVERYBODY PAYS – All persons entering the grounds must pay the admission fee. There will be no exceptions. This applies to officials of the fair, employees, exhibitors, performers, concessionaires and
fair visitors. Many years of experience at fairs in the United States and Canada with an "everyone pays" policy has proven to be reasonable and
fair, and it has met with the co– operative approval of the fair– going public. Members will be admitted with a membership pass. Admission by
Exhibitor's pass will be allowed throughout the duration of the Fair.
1.
$6.00 constitutes membership and entitles the party to one admission ticket and the right to make entries.
Juniors entering an Open Class MUST purchase a membership.
2. JUNIORS – All Junior exhibitors must fill in an entry form found on page 59. An exhibitor number is NOT required for Junior Classes.
3. Contact the committee chairperson if further information is required.
4. Present your entries to the Secretary, or send your prepaid entry by mail to the Ilderton Agricultural Society, P.O. Box 205, Ilderton, ON, NOM 2A0. Be sure to include your membership fee, if it has not already been paid or deducted. Those wishing to have entry tickets mailed to them should have their membership form and a self– addressed envelope in the hands of the Secretary at least 10 days before the fair.
5. All stock must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor and must have been so at least thirty days prior to the show. All grain, roots, fruits, flowers, vegetables and dairy products must be the property of the exhibitor, grown in the present year and of his/her own farm or holding.
6. All exhibits in the Homecraft Departments must be owned and made within the previous twelve months by the exhibitor.
7. Exhibitors of pure bred stock must produce pedigree, if requested to do so. This rule will be strictly enforced. All entries are to be owned and registered in the name of the exhibitor.
8. No single entry will be allowed to be exhibited for two different prizes, except in the case of specials or if stated otherwise.
9. Exhibitors will be entitled to only one entry, per class, per section, except in livestock classes.
10. Animals must not travel faster than a walk outside the show ring.
11. All ADULT and JUNIOR HOMECRAFT and 4– H LIFESKILLS class winners MUST pick up their prize winnings at the Fair Office in the Arena between 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
12. All exhibits (except photography) to be received Thursday, September 29 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and Friday, September 30
between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon, to be ready for judging promptly at 12:30 p.m. The arena will be closed while judging is in progress. Photography entries must be brought in Thursday, September 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
13. Exhibitors are asked to have their name, address and exhibitor number (if required) on entry tags before arriving at the arena.
14. NO EXHIBIT MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE HALL OR GROUNDS BEFORE 4:30 P.M., Sunday, October 2, 2016.
ANYONE NOT ABIDING BY THIS RULE WILL FORFEIT THEIR PRIZE MONEY.
15. Due to Health Regulations, you may not sell your food exhibits while on the fairgrounds.
16. Judges, please report to the Secretary before 12:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, 12:00 noon on Saturday for livestock.
17. Judges have full power to place articles in their proper classes and to withhold prize money on account of inferiority.
18. Ties will be broken wherever possible. THE JUDGE’S DECISION IS FINAL.
19. The following year's membership will be deducted from all prize winnings of $8.00 or more.
20. While directors take every possible precaution to secure the safety of articles sent to the exhibition, the owners of such articles take the
risk of exhibiting.
21. While the Officers and Directors of this Society will use every available means to prevent accidents in and about the grounds, it must be strictly understood that all persons entering the show grounds must personally assume all risk of accident or injury from any cause whatsoever.
22. The Ilderton Agricultural Society, its members, agents, employees, and volunteers shall not be liable for any loss of or damage to property belonging to an exhibitor or to a vender however caused. The exhibitor or vendor agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Ilderton
Agricultural Society, its members, agents, employees, and volunteers for any claim or damage however caused, arising out of, or in
consequence, of the use of the exhibition space allotted.
23. All protests must be in writing and must state plainly the cause of the complaint. The sum of $5.00 must accompany a protest.
The protest must be in the hands of the Secretary or President by 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016.
24. Exhibitors of large animals including horses, cattle, sheep, swine and goats must provide proof of a minimum of two million dollars
liability insurance indicating the policy number and expiry date.
25. All Vendors must provide proof of liability insurance for 2 million indicating the policy number and the expiry date.

THE 2015 VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION WINNERS:
► Sheila Hodgins

Sheila started on the Board of
Directors as a Junior Director
and has served as a Director
for the past 5 years.
For 10 years, Sheila has been
leading the Ag Awareness
committee. This committee
encourages Grade 3 students
from both local and city
schools to learn about
agriculture in our community.
She has even brought her
own animals to enhance the
children's experiences.
Being incredibly organized
and good under pressure,
Sheila makes an effective
leader of the Parade
committee, as chaos often
rains in the parade setup area
prior to its' departure.
Her scope of volunteerism
has included other functions
the IAS hosts, such as being
a garbage collector at our
weekend horse shows.
Her time and commitment
also extend to family.
By demonstration, she
shows her children the
importance of volunteerism
and encourages their
participation in Ilderton
Agricultural Society's
activities.
► Ted Kennedy
Ted has also been
instrumental in bringing the
Ambassador Competition
its' own personality. The
evening's focus is on the
competitor's speeches;
however, the spark of the
evening comes from Ted
and his master of ceremony
commentaries. He brings
the evening to life with his
charm, warmth, wit and his
pure love of the fair.
Supporting the fair by any
means possible is important
to Ted. He actively
encourages his family
members to participate
in the Ilderton Fair. For
example, his daughter has
competed in the Ambassador
Competition and his children
have performed the national
anthem on a moment's notice!
► Lisa Phillips
Ilderton Fair has been a
staple in Lisa's life.
As a youth, Lisa entered
articles in the various
divisions of the Homecraft
department, she rode on
family floats in the parade and
showed cattle while in 4-H.
1. Is a member of the Ilderton Agricultural Society.
2. Has shown a volunteer time commitment to work for the
betterment of the IAS for a minimum of 3 years.
3. Upholds the values of
the society through a
leadership capacity.
4. May be an active participant
or someone who has worked
in the past.

of the fair program
and may be of any age.

In 1994, she was honoured
to represent Ilderton as
the Fair Ambassador. She
enjoyed attending various
events throughout the year
promoting Ilderton's great
fair and meeting other Fair
Ambassadors. She remains
an active member of the
Ambassador Committee
helping to plan, organize
and take photos of the many
contestants.
In 2009, Lisa became a
member of the Board of
Directors. In 2011, she
held the position of 1st Vice
President only to become
President of the Homecraft
Division in 2013 for a two
year term.
Lisa, is a Past President of
the Homecraft Division and
continues to be an active
member of the IAS. Her love
of photography encouraged
her to join the photography
committee. The photos she
takes throughout fair events
are often given to the people
involved, or are displayed at
the fair.
Her hard work, generosity
and devotion inspire us all.

submissions and will present the candidates at the January Directors' meeting for approval.
3. Individuals selected will be honoured at the Annual General Meeting of the IAS at the end of January, with a framed Volunteer Recognition Certificate from the IAS.

Who is eligible?
All 4-H members, agricultural and life skills, that participate in a 4-H club which has an
achievement day, competition or exhibit at the Ilderton Fair. The IAS will distribute the bursaries
between agricultural and life skills participants based on the number of applications from each.
How many and how much?
10 bursaries worth $100
What is the application process?
• Applications will be made available prior to the Ilderton Fair each year
• Applications will be available online and at the secretary’s desk
• Applications can be mailed to the IAS post office box (Box 205, Ilderton, ON N0M 2A0)
or emailed to the bursary email: ilderton4hbursary@gmail.com and must be received by December 31, 2016.
• The applicant will receive an email confirmation when their application is received
• The committee will meet in January to select winners
• Bursary winners will be informed and invited to the AGM in January where the winners will be announced
• Winners will not be eligible to apply again the following year

• dancing, juggling, whistling, recitation or other numbers of entertainment value
Specialty Class
• A specialty class for children under 5 years of age. In our opinion, all participants of this class are winners and
will receive $2.00 each after their performance. This class will not be judged.
General Rules
1. Competitors select their own numbers which should have good entertainment value.
2. Each entry is to consist of one selection only, be it a song, dance or recitation, etc. to a maximum of 3 minutes
in duration.
3. For duet, trio or quartet entries submit only one form giving the names and addresses of all performers.
4. Competitors may not perform more than one number.
5. Competitors 16 years of age and under will be admitted free to the Talent show.
6. The adjudicator’s decision is final on all matters relating to any adjudication.
7. A keyboard, 3 microphones and 3 monitors will be supplied. We will also supply a CD player and the means for an iPod or
MP3 player to be plugged into the soundboard. Contestants are responsible for supplying any other instruments,
accompaniment or background music and media.
8. Prizes are $10.00, $ 8.00, $6.00 in each class and $2.00 to each participant not placed in class prizes.
Although a professional sound system is supplied by MMC Productions, we recommend avoiding cassette taped music if
possible as it tends to amplify into less than quality sound and this may impact a contestant’s performance.
NO MAIL ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

8. Antique & Classic Cars: There will be no judging. Cars to be displayed on grounds after Parade.

10. Heavy Horse Teams: Any breed with wagon, must be shown in competition (no commercial advertising allowed on
wagons) - $25.00 per hitch.
Heavy Horse Teams Not at the Parade Start Site (Heritage Drive) by 10:45 a.m. will NOT be Paid.
To register competitive class entries contact the fair secretary 519-666-2995. Pre-registration is important to help us run our
parade smoothly. Make your entries one week before the parade or as soon as possible. Following receipt of entry,
you will be advised of your parade assembly location. The Parade Committee reserves the right to make the final decision
as to which class you or your group may compete in. In judging of competitive classes, judges’ decisions are final.

2016 Parade Marshals
The Bev Hughes Team
Not many couples have the same first
name. Over the years, this anomaly has
provided many positive benefits to the
Ilderton community. When you get one
Bev Hughes, you generally get the other
too. The Ilderton Agricultural Society
certainly knows this to be true.
To differentiate the Bevs of this couple,
let’s call Bev (male) Bev, and Bev (female)
Beverly. Bev has been attending the
Ilderton Fair every year of his life. Bev’s
parents always attended the Fair. So Bev’s
first attendance was probably in a pram at
seven months of age. Beverly became a
regular Ilderton Fair attendee the year after
she met Bev - about 50 years ago.
Bev’s favourite memory of the Fair was
showing cattle and pigs when he was in
4-H. Meanwhile, Beverly enjoyed taking
their two young sons to the Fair. Both
enjoyed the years when they were involved

Scouts, the Ilderton United Church Young
People’s group and the Tri-County Heritage
Club. Another part they really enjoyed was
driving their antique tractors in the parade.

Bev first became involved with the
Ilderton Agricultural Society in 2005
when some perceptive person asked him
to become a director on the IAS Board.
Bev has been a director ever since. At
the Board level, Bev has worked with
the Grounds Committee and also the
Policy Committee. Of course, the Board
of Directors take on many roles and not
all are glamorous. The grounds have to
be cleaned up before, during and after
special events besides the Fair – that can
mean cleaning up after horses and other
animals, and garbage from their human
owners. Bev helped with repairs to the
bleachers and the stables. When needed,
repairs were made at Bev’s home shop.
He has also helped with fundraising
through the lotteries. Currently, he heads
the Fair Board BBQ Committee for the
annual June BBQ. At Fair time, Bev is
a mainstay. He trucks and washes gators
borrowed and used for many tasks around
the grounds at Fair time. He helps with
Where is Beverly in all this? She is right
there with Bev. Based on her experience
as an executive secretary, she reads and
edits documents and can add some much
appreciated practical advice.When the
Ilderton Fair history, Rain, Shine or Snow,
was written in 2011, Beverly was one of
the editors. Beverly knows computer
programmes and can generate what is
needed whether it is posters, documents,
labels etc. She has a keen eye for details
and can offer suggestions that may not
have ever been considered without her
observations.She designed the eyecatching IAS displays for the Western
Fair from 2009-2013. Each year, she took
photos of the Ilderton Fair to become part
of the video display at Western Fair. She
helps with fundraising by designing and
selling tickets as well as keeping tickets
sales organised. AND she helps with
cleanup of the fairgrounds too! When Bev
calls meetings at his house, Beverly has
the snacks and coffee ready. Since 2013,
the Hughes have hosted the Directors’
October meeting with a pot luck dinner at
their facilities.
Both were extremely honoured and humbled
to have been named “Volunteer of the Year”
for the Ilderton Fair Society in 2011. Bev
also received this honour in 2009.
In the future, the Hughes team believes
that the Ilderton Fair will continue to be
a popular venue because it highlights its
rural roots as well as continuing to add
new and innovative ideas to entertain and
educate all ages of the urban neighbours.
By offering three days with three different
venues, families are more likely to come
for the weekend rather than just attending
for one day. The IAS Board has the great
fortune of having many young directors
who add new, fresh ideas and take an
active role in supporting and promoting
the Fair. As Ilderton continues to grow,
the Hughes team hopes the residents
not only enjoy the Ilderton Fair but also
want to become involved in this dynamic
community event.
In closing, the Hughes team of Bev and
Beverly really does embody that song
line, “you can’t have one without the
other”! You really can’t!

Each applicant, and his/her parent or guardian, must sign an affidavit which absolves the Ilderton Agricultural Society of
any liability as a result of any injury or accident while participating in this event. All affidavits must be completed, signed
and returned to Kerri Phillips, via email or in person, no later than September 28, 2016, or deilvered in person to the
Secretary’s Desk by 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016.
All participants shall provide and wear suitable headgear with attached full face shield.
In order to be successful, the entrant must halter the calf properly and lead the calf across the designated finish line.
Any calf held will be considered caught; no interference or assistance will be permitted unless the calf
becomes totally free. Should a haltered calf become free, the halter will be removed and that calf will be set free.
Unnecessary roughness will not be tolerated; contestants will be disqualified and calf will be set free.
The committee’s decision will be final.

General Rules and Regulations
1. All rules of the Ilderton Agricultural Society apply.
2. Exhibitors must be paid-up members of the Ilderton Agricultural Society.
3. Open to all market (finished) steers and heifers and Middlesex County and Ilderton 4-H Beef Club Projects.
4. Entries will only be accepted by email to iasbeefcommittee@outlook.com.
Entries must include the following information:
a) Exhibitor Name (this is the name the cheque will be written to)
b) Full Mailing Address
c) Phone number
d) State whether the entry is a steer or heifer
e) State if the entry is your Ilderton 4-H calf (this is so we know which animals
need to remain until Saturday)
f) Tag # and tag colour (it is the exhibitors responsibility to have a
large dangle tag with number in the calf’s ear)
5. Entries will open on August 1st, 2016 and the show will be filled as entries are received.
After the first 30, there will be a waiting list.
6. Animals are to be brought to Denfield Livestock Exchange on
Friday, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to be weighed. There will be a 3% pencil shrinkage.
7. All animals must be sold. A commission of 5% will be charged by the Ilderton Agricultural Society.
Entries that are over 1350 lbs. will be sold at 1350 lbs. In the case of Ilderton 4-H animals, the animals

will be sold, but will not become the property of buyer until Saturday at 5 p.m.

8. All animals must have a CCIA tag.
9. All animals are subject to a culling committee (ie. Stag, under finish, horns over 1 1/2 inches).
10. All animals must be halter broken; any unruly animals will be left at Denfield Livestock Exchange.
11. All animals must be 30 months of age or younger.
12. There will be a designated clipping chute area.
13. Animals must have a good halter when shipped to the buyer or a $15.00 charge will be withheld from your cheque.
This decision will be at the committee’s discretion.
14. Exhibitors of the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion animals are responsible for the care of their animals until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
15. Judge and committee decision is final. The committee has the right to amend rules for the betterment of the show.

All riders must have a current OEF # or proof of insurance. Riders without insurance will be required to purchase
an Ilderton Agricultural Society Membership for $6.00, in addition to entry fees and admittance to the grounds.
All classes in the Pony and Horse Division are OPEN classes.
Riders showing as beginners, cannot compete in Open Pony Division (1-6) or Open Horse Division (12-17).
Beginners are riders in their first season of showing.
Exhibitors showing in leadline class may not show over fences.
A junior is a rider who has not reached his or her 18th birthday as of January 1, 2016.
Judge's decision is final. No protests allowed.
Section 10 & 11 may be divided into A and B if number of entries warrants two sections.
An entry fee per rider per entry is required
Entry Fees: Senior - $7.00 Junior - $6.00 Stake - $10.00 Class #3 - $6.00 per pair ($3.00 per rider)
Warm ups available for $6.00 (one per horse/rider)
Warm ups will run prior to the exhibitors first class. You ride your warm up and go directly into your first trip.
All horses, ponies and riders are entered at owner's and/or exhibitor's own risk. The committee, officials and the
Ilderton Agricultural Society are not responsible for any loss, damage to any spectator, exhibitor, exhibitor's horse or pony or equipment.
A scratch from a class does not entitle a rider to a refund of entry fees.
Prize Money and Ribbons to 5th Place.
Fence Heights may be adjusted due to weather conditions.
Prize money will be totalled and handed out after each division. An announcement will be made when it is ready.
Main Street will be closed for the parade from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. noon.
It is possible to get to the grounds through the sub-division east of the Fairgrounds off Hyde Park Road.

purity of variety, freedom from weeds and other plants, freedom from plant diseases and insects, stand and vigor of crop,
neatness of headlands, fences, etc.
Each competitor is required to exhibit one of the following at the fair: Wheat, 10 lbs., Corn 12 ears or 8 stalks, Soybeans, 5 stalks.
Soybean Exhibit: Please remove roots from stalks at ground level and tie stalks in a way which is best to display pods.
Sheaf Corn Exhibit: Please tie husks back and arrange ears in half-moon shape in front of sheaf, ears to be on stalks.

Guidelines: Write a class book. Classes are encouraged to write about their school, community or the Ilderton Fair.

JUDGING IS BASED ON PUBLICATION 34, OF THE ONTARIO JUDGING AND
EXHIBITING STANDARDS FOR HORTICULTURAL AND FLORAL DESIGN
1. All entries must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor and
HOME GROWN OR COLLECTED IN THE WILD UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED.
2. ***All entries MUST be prepared and tagged at home, before bringing to the show. Please secure tags with tape or elastic.
3. When judging, if a certain number is specified, there must not be either more or fewer exhibited.
(eg: 3 blooms means 3 individual flowers, one to stem and 3 sprays means three portions of a plant with a number
of flowers). If a bud shows colour it is considered a bloom. Flowering plants must be in bloom.
4. Uniform quality to count.
5. Design exhibits must be arranged by the exhibitor and must be arranged at home.
6. Measurements are STRICTLY enforced where specified.

Judges and handwork committee have full power to place articles in their proper classes and to withhold prize money due to

Due to Health Regulations, you may not sell your food exhibits while on the fairgrounds.

QUILTS
CHAMPION QUILT COMPETITIONS FOR HAND QUILTED QUILTS AND MACHINE QUILTED QUILT/WALL HANGING
The exhibitor of the Grand Champion quilt is eligible to enter their quilt in the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (O.A.A.S.) competition. To enter this competition, the Grand Champion Quilt must compete in the District 13 Quilt Competition in November. The first prize quilt from the District Competition is then entered in the O.A.A.S. competition which is held at the O.A.A.S. annual convention in Toronto in February. The entry judged BEST OF SHOW at the February Convention will be declared the ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP QUILT. A $500.00 grand prize will be awarded and the exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt. There will be a second place prize of $150.00 awarded to the runner– up quilt. Exhibitor will retain ownership of quilt. The exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the O.A.A.S. competition.
The hand quilt must be at least double bed size (72” x 90”) or the quilt will not be eligible to proceed to the next level of competitions. The quilt must be solely made and hand quilted by an individual. Machine quilted quilt/wall hanging
is measured on perimeter. Total perimeter to be a minimum of 192” square or rectangle. Quilt/wall hanging must be solely made and machine quilted by an individual (not on a long arm machine and must have visible machine quilting).
The local Homecraft Division is requested to judge a BEST OF SHOW QUILT from any of the quilt classes.

RULES & REGULATIONS:
1. Girls/Boys are to be 4-H members in Middlesex County, who have completed at least one Lifeskills project from Ilderton
Fair 2015 – Ilderton Fair 2016 thus permitting entry to all sections.
2. No exhibitor fee is required.
3. Cloverbuds are 6-8 years of age as of January 1, 2016.
4. Juniors are 9-14 years of age as of January 1, 2016.
5. Seniors are 15-21 years of age as of January 1, 2016.
6. One 4-H Lifeskills project manual, completed since Ilderton Fair 2015, must be entered by each participant as
proof of 4-H Lifeskills activity, and to be eligible for Special Classes. In the event of a tie for Top Junior/Senior, the
project manual will be used to determine the winner.
7. The Judge’s decisions are final. NOTE: All food entries are to be enclosed in a clear plastic, resealable bag.
This is to facilitate the judging and display of the food. Sewn articles should be clean, pressed, and in good repair.
8. Complete a separate 4-H entry form to register for the 4-H Lifeskills classes. Please use the cream entry tags.

South Lobo Women’s Institute Scholarship
Presented by South Lobo Women’s Institute
Value $250.00
1. The Scholarship will be awarded to a member who is at least 16 years of age and who has successfully completed
at least six 4-H Lifeskills projects.
2. The Scholarship will only be awarded to a member who does not have full-time employment.
3. The Scholarship will only be awarded, regardless of place of residence, to a member participating in 4-H
Lifeskills club work in Middlesex County.
4. The Scholarship will only be awarded once to any one member.
5. In order to be eligible to win the Scholarship, contestants must submit, by Friday, September 2, 2016, an essay of at least
250 words describing his/her involvement in school and community activities. This essay should include how the contestant
plans to use the Scholarship money.
6. Submit essays to the Secretary – Glenna Ladell, South Lobo Women’s Institute,

7. The winner will be selected on the basis of the essay submitted and the points

ANY 2016 4-H Club in Middlesex County may enter a display, the width of which should not exceed 3 feet. An honorarium
will be given to each creditable exhibit. To reserve your display space, contact:

CLASS 45 - Scarecrow Competition
Gather your family, neighbours or playgroup and use your
creative minds to construct a Scarecrow to be judged and
displayed at the fair.
The Scarecrows will be judged by the
2016 Ilderton Fair Ambassador.
Entries must be set up by 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 30th and left on display until Sunday, October 2nd, 2016 @ 4:30 p.m.
Entries will be displayed in the Roots, Fruit and Vegetable
Pavilion – on the north side of the arena.
Each entry will be allowed a 3x3 feet / 90x90 cm area. Entries must be self supported (able to stand alone). Entries will be listed under one membership number. No age limit.
Please use the tags supplied.
One member of the family must have an IAS Adult Membership.
