I believe we can transform minds, communities, and cultures through good design, design that is poetic, reponsible and dynamically responsive to the web of context. I pursue a career that will contribute to compassion and consciousness.. This
career will be marked with collaborative creativity, ecological fluency, and intrepid exploration that will only grow with wisdom
and finesse. I want to help people fall in love with landscapes that have been trampled or neglected, overlooked or desecrated. Maybe then, the frayed relationship between culture and land will have a chance to heal. Let’s see what happens.
Standing Forest
Design Intent: To facilitate a contemplation of the relationship between person
and place. First, to undercut the habitual estrangement between person and
place, this estrangement is exaggerated, thereby bringing this unnatural dichotomy the the forefront of one’s consciousness. Whilst engaging this stark
separation, these desired and unattainable locations draw our attention toward
a tangible sense of longing, wonder, or a contemplation of our relationship with
the place in which we find ourselves.

Woodland Corridor
A transition in succession from the meadow to the woodland corridor allows the pedestrian to slow and absorb the calming forms of an eastern mesophytic forest. Both an escape destination and a path, the mixed
bed breaks the hard edges of the Earth Science and Engineering building, and creates eddies of space and energy. The native plant palette takes advantage of the contextual sun-richness, blocks the winter western
winds and invites the cool summer breezes. The corridor presents itself as a threshold with an intimate space to look and learn more closely about the plant community.

You are facing west. Watch the ancient New
River flow north through the heart of
Appalachia to meet the Gauley River, the
Kanawha River, the Ohio River, and finally back
south to the Gulf of Mexico. Below, you’ll hear
the train heading either north along the New
River, or south west along the Greenbrier River.
