Rising Crude Prices
AADE Lafayette Chapter members,
I trust this message finds you and your families
in good health and spirits. Hopefully, everybody has
enjoyed the pleasant weather.
Our eighth general meeting will be held Monday,
April 18 at the Petroleum Club. We are very
fortunate to have Kurtis Price, a Senior Account
Leader with Halliburton - Easywell. Price will be
discussing the latest advancements in swellpackers
for well construction.
The Annual AADE Scholarship Sporting Clays
Tournament was held again at Cajun Elite Shooting
Complex in Jennings, La., in March and it was again
a fun-filled successful event. Either the course gets
harder each year or my gun is having technical
difficulties. On behalf of the entire AADE board, I
would like to express our gratitude for your
continued support of the Annual Sporting Clays
Tournament. We look forward to many more
exciting and fun-filled clay shoots to come.

It is that time of year again for board nominations
and we are always looking for motivated and
enthusiastic volunteers.
Also, the AADE Lafayette Chapter will begin
using an online system to sign up for events such as
the golf tournament, general meetings, membership
renewals and other efforts. The online system will
go into effect during the 2011-12 session. We will
have more information and reminders as we get
closer to the launch of this new system.
On the international front, geo-political unrest
across the Middle East, has propelled crude prices

2011 scholarship
sporting Clays
tournament a success
The AADE Lafayette Chapter
has been hosting its Scholarship
Sporting Clays Tournament for 18
years. The "fund-raising event"
has grown considerably over the
years, as well as the proceeds it
generates for petroleum industry
scholarships. This year’s
tournament was no exception.
This year’s event was held at
Cajun Elite Shooting Complex in
Jennings, La., on March 25 and
26. Beautiful spring weather
prevailed on both days with
strong north winds on Saturday.
The course was altered from
passive on Friday to very
challenging on Saturday.
Safety was a priority and on
the forefront of everyone’s
thoughts throughout the entire
event.
Several food sponsors
provided an array of tasty
samplings including fried fish,
pork chop sandwiches, ribs and
chicken to mention only a few of
the many delectable dishes.
In addition to the food

sponsors, there were an additional
90 sponsors that provided tents,
shooting station representation,
door prizes, side shooting events
and the many other bits and
pieces that are required to make
this event a reality.
Scores of volunteers from
service companies and committee
members donated their valuable
time to help make the event a
success.
Without these countless
sponsors and volunteers this event
would not have been possible.
Although there are too many
sponsors to list here, I would like
to give special thanks to our
Platinum sponsors; Baker Oil
Tools, Knight, NOV Fluid
Control, Talens Marine and Fuel
and USI Insurance Service.
As in past years, proceeds
from the event will help provide
oil industry scholarships at the
University of Louisiana Lafayette,
Nicholls State University and
Louisiana State University.
Everyone who participated in the
event from sponsors to the
shooters played a large part in
helping the AADE accomplish its
mission.
The Lafayette Chapter AADE
Scholarship Sporting Clays
Tournament is a premiere event in
the oil and gas industry. We look
forward to next year’s event and
invite those who could not be
with us this year to join us for
next year’s tournament.

online Registration
option Coming
In september
In an effort to make it easier and
quicker for members to attend AADE
Lafayette Chapter events, the local
board has voted to begin using an
online platform to allow members to
register for AADE events and general
meetings anytime, anywhere.
The board has chosen 123Signup,
a leading provider of online registration solutions, to make this possible.
In addition to doing extensive
research on this online solution, many
other AADE chapters are already
using this online registration system
with much success.
123Signup has invested millions to
create the best online event registration and membership management
service available. Around the clock
and seven days a week, 123Signup's
online services handle member registrations, subscriber access, event postings, event registrations, collections
and more.
This online solution is used by
hundreds of organizations, large and
small, including:
• Subscription-based organizations
• Corporations
• Financial firms
• Venture capital firms
• Training organizations
• Colleges and universities
• Trade associations
Since its inception, 123Signup has
conducted about one million transactions and support a member database
of about half a million active users.
123Signup will help manage:
• Membership databases
• Membership renewals
• Event registration and payment
• Newsletter distribution
• Monthly meeting reminders
More information will be provided
prior to this system launching. The
hope is that this system will make
registration and payment easier and
therefore increase attendance.
In addition, this will help ease
some of the tasks volunteer committee
members are responsible for. Up-tothe-minute operational reports will
also be available using this system,
which will allow the board to better
track event participation and fundraising goals.
If you have questions regarding
this new system, please contact a local
board member. We will do our best to
answer any questions and address any
concerns.
We will provide additional
updates as we work through the setup
process.
Until September, we will continue
to use e-mail and telephone RSVP for
general meetings and onsite registration for events such as the Sporting
Clays Scholarship Tournament.

higher. The global oil supply rose by
500,000 bpd to 86.96 million bpd on
higher OPEC crude and NGL output.
Domestic crude output fell nearly
300,000 bpd with the biggest
decreases in Alaska and Louisiana.
International drilling activity
continues its B.S. start to the year.
During the month of January the
international rig count rose by 12.5
percent. Leading the activity was
Canada adding 168 rigs to the rig
count (1,811 rigs).
Locally, Louisiana has 169 rotary
rigs running as of January. North
Louisiana has 119, South Louisiana
has 15, inland water Louisiana has 14
and offshore Louisiana has 22.
NASA and the oil industry have
joined forces to help scientists
w w w. A A D e . o R g / l A fAy e t t e
uncover the mysteries of Mars. In
2003, the NASA Mars Exploration
Rovers discovered that indeed Mars at
one time, long ago, had liquid water.
The next step for NASA scientists and
engineers was to drill beneath the
surface of the Red Planet. Teaming up
with Baker Hughes, the group worked
to develop the next generation of
drilling technology for the space
mission. The team has designed a new
rotary-percussive drilling system. This
new system will be taken to
Antarctica and tested at Antarctica’s
University Valley.
While a world apart from the
offshore drilling world, we are all
accustomed to such space and
discovery missions and this
partnership stands as an ongoing
reminder of the importance to always
reach for the stars.
I look forward to seeing you all at
our upcoming meeting.
