Welcome to Hever Castle Golf Club
GOLF CLUB
Welcome to
Hever Castle Golf Club
The 27 Hole Championship Course and unique Clubhouse
reside in a truly inspirational setting, bordering the counties of
Kent, Surrey and Sussex, within 250 acres of the historic Hever
Castle Estate. Golf & Hospitality have been an integral part of
the Estate’s history, and today’s Club preserves these traditions
and aims to deliver memorable experiences to all who visit.
The Golf Courses
The courses are set in 250 acres of truly beautiful
Kent Weald countryside, nestling in the River
Eden Valley, below the hills that border Kent,
Surrey and Sussex. Lying within the historic
Hever Castle Estate, the contours of the Courses
fit seamlessly around the mature native English
trees, as well featuring specimens of Scots Pine,
Sequoia and Sycamore trees. The whole area
provides a rich natural haven for wildlife and it
is not uncommon to see the fallow deer that have
roamed Hever for centuries, as well as sparrow
hawks, kestrels and owls. The natural stream
from the Eden that flows through all the courses
to form the many feature lakes, also attracts
several varieties of ducks, and geese as well as
moorhens, coots and herons.
Heritage
The Hever Castle Estate reveals a rich
and fascinating past, dating back to the
13th Century. Famously the Estate was the
childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s
2nd Wife back in the 1500’s. The origins of the
Clubhouse date back to this period, which was
constructed around the historic buildings of
Castle Farm.
An important transition for the Estate occurred
in 1903 when it was purchased by William
Waldorf Astor one of the richest men in
America at the time, who invested his time,
money and imagination in restoring the Castle
and building the incredible Italian gardens.
It was in the 1920s that Golf first featured on
the Estate when a private 9 hole links course
was built for Astor’s personal enjoyment in
the grounds where today’s Championship
Course lies North of the Hever lakes. The Golf
Course proved a valuable tool for the Astors to
entertain friends, family and for business. Its
guest list was extensive and included Members
of Parliament, and is thought to have included
Royalty.
The original course survived until the Second
World War when it was sadly abandoned during
the War effort.

The Club
Today
The present day Championship Course,
comprises the Kings and Queens Nines which
was created in 1992 by Dr Nicholson PhD.
ARCS BSc, whose employment of the land’s
natural beauty and contours gives each hole its
distinctive character. This Course was further
complimented by the creation of the Princes
9 Hole Course in 1998 designed by Hever
Castle’s Course Manager David Wood and the
addition of extensive Practice Facilities in 2007.
To honour the past founder of Golf at Hever, in
2011 The Astor Lounge Bar & Restaurant was
commissioned.
With its abundance of natural riches, Hever
Castle’s Courses have been constructed to be in
complete harmony with the picturesque setting,
and each hole has developed its own distinct
character. With so many inspiring and memorable
golf holes, agreeing with your playing partners
which you enjoyed the most may prove one of the
biggest challenges.
The Club today strives to preserve a golfing
experience with historic natural beauty, while
delivering an innovative, modern approach to
Club services.

The Championship Course
The Championship Course, comprising
the Kings and Queens nines, has
been showcased on Sky Sports and
has played host to many prestigious
events including The Kent Amateur
Championships, Euro Pro Tour and the
Kent PGA Championships.
At a glance of the scorecard one of the
longest holes in Britain, the 644 yard
Par 5 seventeenth hole, certainly stands
out, however the course boasts an array
of stunning holes across its 7002 yard,
par 72 layout. The delightful short sixth
and eighth holes on the front nine are
both played over water, and a beautiful
stretch of holes from the eleventh to
the thirteenth (Hever Castle’s very own
“Amen Corner”) feature carries over
water and small slick greens. However,
Hever Castle is not as intimidating
to the inexperienced golfer as might
be imagined, and with a backdrop of
beautiful surroundings playing this
course is a real pleasure. We know
that you will thoroughly enjoy the
challenge.

The Hybrid Course
The Hybrid Course blends the Princes and
Kings nines to create a very enjoyable 18
holes at 6076 yards, par 71. This course has
a wonderful variety of hazards from tight
tree lined fairways to beautifully presented
water hazards, strategically placed bunkers
and small greens.
The Princes Course
The Championship course is complimented by the
2784 yard Par 35 Princes nine hole Course, which has a
wonderful layout and built to the highest specification.
Although shorter in length from the Championship
Course it provides a good test of golf, where accuracy
is important, especially on the par 3 3rd and 6th, both
played over picturesque lakes.
