FEBRUARY 2016 Training Trifecta at DCTR Spring is just around the corner and all horse people are gearing up to sharpen our skills for show season or just to improve riding skills in general. DCTR is offering the Trifecta of horsemanship. Three area trainers are scheduled to conduct one-day clinics sponsored by DCTR. Mark your calendars for these three separate events. Ty Haas Horsemanship and Groundwork clinic is scheduled for March 26, 2016, and will be held at Dancing Star Ranch indoor arena. Ty has worked with renowned horseman Harry Whitney, and approaches training from the horse’s perspective. He especially enjoys problem solving for horses and their riders. See the attached flyer for clinic details. Ty will also speak at the March club meeting. Come out and enjoy great food, great friends and great information. April 16 brings Matt Lange to the DCTR arena for a Horsemanship and Groundwork clinic. Matt has extensive English and Western riding experience, Upcoming Events All events are at DCTR unless otherwise stated FEBRUARY 26-28 – EquiFest of Kansas, Topeka Expo Center MARCH 4 – Club Meeting, 6:30 p.m. Corned Beef Dinner, $5 donation, speaker Ty Haas, 7:00 meeting 5 – De-spooking/Parade evaluation 1:00 p.m. 17 – St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Lawrence 26 – Ty Haas Groundwork and Horsemanship Clinic, Dancing Star Ranch and is a Western Pleasure and Ranch Pleasure champion. See attached flyer for details. Rounding out this Trifecta of horse clinics is Lee Hart Cowboy Obstacle Clinic to be held at DCTR arena on May 14. Lee is an Extreme Cowboy Challenge Association World Champion and his past clinics have been very popular. Come learn from the best! We have a limited number of riding slots for each clinic, and full payment with registration secures your place. Unlimited auditors will be welcomed at all three events. Each clinic is $100, $90 for DCTR members, $15 auditing fee. Lunch is included so please register in advance to make sure there is plenty of food for everyone. DCTR is providing volunteers to help exhibitors unload on Thursday and load them up again on Sunday in exchange for free entry and a booth. give Kelley a break. There will also be a float representing DCTR with a $500 prize on the line. If you will be riding on horseback and have not passed a DCTR parade evaluation, join us on March 5 for the de-spooking clinic/parade evaluation. DCTR March Meeting Our next meeting is March 4 at 6:30 p.m. for dinner/speaker and 7:00 pm. meeting. In honor of St Patrick’s Day the dinner will feature Corned Beef and Cabbage. DCTR is asking for a $5 donation and a 6-pack of 2 brand name pop to stock the concession stand for the year’s upcoming events. Ty Haas will be present and answer any questions about his upcoming Horsemanship clinic on March 26, 2016. Bring your smile, appetite and questions for an enjoyable evening with like-minded horse people. Pantry Shower for DCTR The beginning of the horse season is just around the corner and DCTR needs your help. In order to provide the great food we serve we need to stock up on a few items. Did you know that the more paid memberships we have the less we have to rely on other fundraising to operate DCTR? Collecting renewals early in the year lets us know how much money we will have to spend on maintenance and improvements or how much other fundraising we will need to do. Trail Ride Weekend at the Ponderosa There will be several trail rides scheduled throughout the riding season this year. In July DCTR will be heading to Pineville, Missouri, for a weekend of trail riding at the Ponderosa Campground. You can bring your trailer, rent a cabin or tent camp.
