The Bible says, “Where there is no vision the people perish.” The church must be mobilized with a compelling vision, a sense of mission and purpose that motivates, energizes, and unifies. Without vision, the church ultimately reflects the hopelessness and despair of the world around it. Let me tell you a little bit about my vision for our church. It is rather simple, it looks like the cross. It is two dimensional. For someone who is very visual, I see the two lines of the cross giving us the vision. One is the vertical line that calls us and binds us to God through the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ. I envision a church that is growing in the knowledge and experience of Jesus Christ. I envision a people who yearn to grow as true disciples. And because of our vertical relationship with God, I envision a community of faith that can’t help but reach out our arms and become the horizontal piece that completes the cross. I envision a faith community gathering with a sense of excitement and anticipation to worship the living God. I envision a body of believers where every person is actively involved in ministry using his or her gifts for the work of building God’s kingdom. I envision this church as a place where people know they can come to find answers to their questions, help for their problems, healing for their pain, forgiveness for their sin, and hope for their future. I envision our church as a body of believers who don’t wait for people to come to us but instead go into our community and our world to carry the good news of Jesus Christ. The vision that I have is that our church would resemble a lighthouse. Reaching up to God and reaching out to a darkened world as a beacon to reflect the light of Jesus Christ. This is a demonstration of personal holiness reaching out to social holiness. Our church will be holding a mission and program planning retreat on Saturday October 26, 2013. Would you take a moment to schedule this date so that you may take part in this important time together as we learn to seek God’s will for us? When Helen Keller was asked, “What would be worse than being born blind?” She replied, “To have sight without vision.” We are the body of Christ with sight. We are the body of Christ with the ability to see and seek God’s plan for our church. Let us together be the mobilized church that is faithful to the mandate to make disciples for the transformation of the world. In Ministry Together, Rev. State St., Apt. 2 Burlington WI 53105-1704 To My Church Family, There are no words to tell you how much I appreciate your love and care showered on me while I was so ill. You sent me cards when I was too weak to go to the mailbox, offered food when I couldn't keep it down, send flowers when I was too sick to appreciate their beauty, prayed for me when I was too sick to pray for myself, called on the phone when I fell asleep trying to talk to you. And precious LoWaine sending me updates on what was going on at Church. I missed so much Church I couldn't wait to get back. Thanks to all of you for your concerted effort to get me back in my place. Joyce Clark TUTORING CENTER NEWS Hallelujah! We are open and back in business. The first day we opened, twelve students came in. They were so thrilled to be back, as were the parents. I really feel for the parents, because of their language barrier, they cannot help their children. We are a godsend for them. The fact that the children love to come is a miracle. Again, we are looking for tutors. Most of our tutors are retired teachers, although Nelle and Mary have been with us for years and are not. Retired teachers tend to travel, go see grandchildren, go on cruises, and are not always around. So, we are always in need. If you have a couple of hours a week to give, come on over and join us. -Joyce Clark, Coordinator RAINBOW FESTIVAL Sunday, October 6, 2013 A CELEBRATION OF OUR DIVERSITY Worship Music Silent/Talent Auction POTLUCK LUNCHEON OF ETHNIC FOOD Come attired in the traditional dress of your culture or origin Bring a dish to share of your heritage Invite relatives, neighbors, co-workers, and friends In conjunction with the observance of WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY Sponsored by the Rainbow Team TREASURER’S REPORT By Delia Lejarde For the period ending August 31, 2013 TOTAL INCOME TOTAL EXPENSES <deficit>/surplus Year to Date Actual $ 187,810.45 $ 199,145.95 $ <11,335.50> Balance Sheet TOTAL ASSETS Total Capital Total Liabilities TOTAL LIABILITIES/CAPITAL Year to Date Budget $ 198,639.36 $ 219,232.57 $ <20,593.21> $ 148,637.69 $ 77,913.94 $ 70,723.75 $ 148,637.69 LIFE LINE SCREENING St. Paul's United Methodist Church is pleased to offer a preventive health event.
