FROM THE EVANGELISM MINISTRY This week we will complete pointing out the differences between a Church with a Missional Mindset vs. one with a Maintenance Mindset. Let us remember the key distinction between the Missional and the Maintenance Mindset: The first look to thrive while the second is happy to survive. In the life of the Church, we see a Missional Mindset at work in teams to make disciples as they operate in complement to their personalities. Missional Churches attempt to embrace situations and see their potential, while acknowledging the difficulty they represent. Personal involvement is high. The question still posed to Mount Calvary: "Do we have a missional or maintenance mindset?" Characteristics of Missional vs. Maintenance Missional Mindset Sees problems as opportunities for their faith Maintenance Mindset Sees problems as obstacles to their faith Relies on the Lord, "God can do this" Relies on themselves "we have to do this" Releases, "How much can we give?" (It's all God's) Hoards, "How much can we keep?" (It's all ours) Force Mentality: Change Agent Fortress Mentality: Status Quo Loves and serves others Loved and Serves themselves Simply put: a help to the Gospel Simply put: a hindrance to the Gospel "Having a form of godliness, but denying its power." (2 Timothy 3:5) "Can do all things through Christ who makes it happen." (Philippians 4:13) You are invited to attend the next Evangelism Ministry Meeting on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at 7 p.m., as we sharpen our evangelistic skills. COUNSELING MINISTRY Christ’s Unconditional (Love) Relationship With Us – His Creation Sponsor: Counseling Ministry This is the second of a series of articles which focuses on RELATIONSHIPS. Each article will address relationships from a biblical perspective. Unconditional love can simply be characterized as having a relationship with someone with no conditions or expectations for a return. God demonstrated that kind of love for us, His Creation, in that while we were yet sinners He gave His life for His Creation – Us (Romans 5:8). God through His Son Jesus Christ perpetually loves us with no strings attached. This love is often referred to as “who so ever love” (John 3:16). We experience Christ’s unconditional love when He demonstrates patience with us when we repeatedly show unfaithfulness toward Him and each other (1 Corinthians 13:4). Even in our unfaithfulness, Christ keeps no records that will be used as conditions for future blessings (1 Corinthians 13:5). As Christ forgives us for our shortcomings towards Him, we must emulate this characteristic in our relationship towards each other. God’s Word contains numerous examples of Christ looking upon His Creation with unconditional love. Generation after generation, from Old Testament through New Testament to 2011 we have been unfaithful towards Christ and each other; but Christ has consistently demonstrated unconditional love.
